I was sent this link from a friend who tells me the source is very credible. UCLA sources are confirming, as are USC sources.

Bruinbalssy, a poster on BruinZone.com, is claiming that sanctions are on the way for USC, and details are starting to come in. Three years of probation, no bowl games for two seasons, no televised games for two seasons, and the loss of 25 scholarships over three years. Furthermore, USC would be forced to forfeit some, if not all of the 2004 season. The claim is that there is a "systemic lack of institutional control" at USC, and that big boosters have already been warned.

The main investigations surrounded Reggie Bush and OJ Mayo, but it also included Winston Justice, Demar Derozan, Joe McKnight, John David Booty, and possibly others.

It's not the death penalty, but it could be debilitating for the USC program. The penalties are similar to the punishment Alabama received in 2000 for the recruitment of Albert Means. The Crimson Tide faced five years of probation, a two-year bowl ban, and the loss of 21 scholarships over three years. Mike Shula walked into that situation at 'Bama and could only manage a 26-23 record. It took a coach the quality of Nick Saban to turn things around.

While it's early, and this news is still in the early stages of breaking, the ramifications of this could be huge for the USC program. I doubt Pete Carroll would want to stick around with his team stuck in it, and he's the engine that runs the bus. People have always talked about how the balance of power swings back and forth in ND-USC series. I didn't think that this is how it would happen this time around.

Okay, now I'll resume running a Notre Dame blog.

Edit: I haven't been able to find out what would happen to this year's ND-USC game if the Trojans do, in fact, have their games removed from television.

I hope this is true.... But i will take the wait and see approach. That link sounds more promising then all of the Yahoo storys over the past few years... We will see. As for the games not being on TV... I can't see a ND home game against sc not being on NBC. Again i will not get my hopes up..

Hmmmmm...... This is getting interesting

if those penalties are enforced our recruiting just got a bit easier. seems to be a bit harsh in comparison to what some other programs have been hit with, i guess time will tell.

Our recruiting would definitely benefit, however not nearly as much as UCLA and Washington IMHO.

agreed, also could be part of the reason why the USC assistants were getting out while they could.

I'm keeping my powder dry on this right now---- just hard for me to believe-- especially the scope that is described---if true this story would be so HUGE--- yet didnt hear much leak in the last few weeks-- again hard to believe the ncaa would or could keep this under wraps, and then slam ,drop a hammer--- just doesnt quite ring true yet--- lets see what happens next week

not really keeping it under wraps, it just came out that the 2 probes will be combined.

if the allegations come true i would've thought that floyd would have gone to uofa and cheaty petey would've taken a pro gig. i guess if the ncaa actually grows a pair of balls then anything's possible, but i'm not not going to hold me breath

uh-huh, i'll believe it when i see it...............

I'll be in wait and see mode myself here. It certainly could have a big effect on their FB program. Personally I would like to beat the cheaters head to head with their best and our best, which hasn't happened since the almost in '05. Somehow I would just enjoy it that much more, we'll see what happens first.

i'll remain skeptical about this too

Reggie Bush's parents getting privileges did not have ND lose to Fusc the last (seems like) 15 seasons.

If they go down, they go down. We still need to beat them to affect recruiting.

Personally, I don't think much will happen and forfeiting past games will not happen.

i don't think this will happen. too detrimental to college football. SC deserves it (and probably worse) but they'll walk out of this with a slap on the wrist.

hate to say it, but +1, as well...
