March 31, 200916 yr Well he looked pretty damn good to me. He may not be the nastiest kid on the field, but he has tons of talent and is strong as a horse. It's still really early, so I can easily see him getting PT next season. Especially at a spot where we have sucked for a long time. I'd much rather give inside time to Tyler instead of Ethan. Keep him on the outside. Not knockin' his potential, to be sure. I think he has the ability to play as a freshman too. Two years ago, I think he does without question. I just look at the track record of guys at that position for the Irish, and can't help but think that he might better serve his career to take the *shirt* and sit out his frosh campaign. Laws and Landri both used the 5th year to their advantage, which won't be lost on Charlie in this case. Likewise, you look at our most recent history, and Hafis, Cwynar, Newman, and KLM all preserved a year too. I think if given the chance, he'd like to do that with Stockton too, give him a chance to really get acclimated and that extra year to tap into his abilities. And as for EJ, I think his DT role is more of a given than you think. That they keep talking about this pass rush package of KLM and EJ at DT is pretty telling to me. I'm not sure Stockton would qualify as a pass rush specialist (might be apt at it, but not a "freak" persay), so I don't think it'd come down to an "either/or" situation. We're going to want to get the fresh legs of guys like Richardson, Neal, Fleming, etc in on 3rd down, and still pose a threat to their interior line with a good pass rusher. Just ask Justin Tuck how that worked with the Giants when they had Osi and Strahan together on the edge.
