coastereight
Not to be a bubble buster, but the church has been saying go to confession if you voted for the guy...and now ND is giving him an honorary degree? What the blank notre dame... I'm not looking to start arguments over this and I'm not trying to say I'm right on everything and start a war, but I'm just saying from my point of view as a catholic, it doesn't make sense...and actually kind of hurts. http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Catholic+priests+tell+Obama+voters+they+must+confess+their+%27sin%27...-a0192801465

NDJoe06
it is odd that many of the ND community welcomed George W. Bush back before he was president, even though he sent many many human beings to be executed... last time i check right to life INCLUDED capital punishment. He is our president, and it is an HONOR for him to speak at our commencement. Our Pope also said the proliferation of condoms in Africa would spread AIDS... the Pope is only infallible when he is speaking ex cathedra. Why is it that everyone always has to bring up Bush to justify Obama's actions? This has nothing to do with Bush. Obama's first day in office his first order was to allot tax money to pay for abortions all around the world. The fact that I'm paying for that when I have such strong pro-life feelings disgusts me. Obama's s#^t stinks too. It should be his honor. It's our politicians job to serve us. Somewhere along the line we forgot that. Our government isn't supposed to be a royal monarchy. mcdougal93
I'm not surprised as I am disappointed in the decision. ND has had a number of left wing speakers at the university such as Vernon Jordan, Tom Brokaw, Andrew Young. They have also given honorary degrees to the likes of that useful idiot, Martin Sheen. Having said that I'm disappointed, Obama is our president and he has the right to speak. Will gladly accept the PR that ND gets when the media come to worship him. coastereight
See in my case, I don't always go right. I just vote for the candidate that I agree with, almost always morally, regardless of left or right.

2lakes
It is a great honor and privilege to have the duly elected chief executive of our great and powerful nation serve as our commencement speaker. It speaks volumes of Notre Dame's relevance as an institution of both progress and tradition in this dynamic and uncertain world. I believe it is a great testament to the efforts and accomplishments of the people who have made Notre Dame what it has become (One shining example of that distinguished group would be Father Hesburgh). On a personal note: if anyone tried to sway my vote by telling me I had to go to confession for voting a certain way, a very lively conversation would ensue. “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” -Matthew 7:

They said it after he was elected. Honestly, I wish they would tell people who to vote for, as Catholics should answer to God before government.
