Caleb Lavey, Blake Leuders, and Daniel Smith attended Fridays practice and all observed from the sideline. Im gettin jacked about Lavey being there as well as Leuders. Smiths already made the call so thats all about a future Domer checkin out his squad!!!

You've been watching too much of "The Wire" Don.... Having said that I do think The Wire could be the greatest show in television history.

 

When I saw the link I thought it was a joke, when I saw the website I really thought it was a joke. A little cheezy case of over caffeinated parents with too much time on their hands. Certainly doesn't change my thoughts on Lavey as a football player.

I'm basing this off of people I've listened to, and the very small samples that are highlight reels. So TIFWIW.

 

He looks like more of an instinctive player than anything.

 

Agility isn't a problem persay, but its not necessarily a "+" so to speak, if I were to borrow baseball pitching terminology. He's capable in coverage, and does a pretty good job for a HS LB, but I wouldn't describe him as rangy necessarily either, like an outside linebacker would look like on film. The plays his highlight reel shows him making in coverage are more reaction based and being in the right position than him making a jaw-dropping burst to swat a pass. He looks like a classic MLB when it comes to his movement; a little stiffer than a Steve Filer type, but certainly apt at getting up field towards a ball carrier.

 

He's got good but not blazing footspeed too. Again, good for the HS level, but we're not talking about a guy who runs in the 4.5 range here like Te'o reportedly does. My guess is 4.7-4.8 speed, which isn't necessarily a bad thing considering some of the 40 times you're seeing out of pro day circuit. His speed comes from his ability to diagnose and react moreso than his God given abilities.

 

He's got a pretty nice frame for an ILB, bigger than the last few guys we've brought in. Calabrese is on the short side, as is McDonald, so he'll have the potential to carry a little more weight than either of them.

 

If I had to make an analogy, I'd say close to McDonald in style of play and abilities. Id say we're talking about a mid 3 to low 4 star prospect, but we'll see. His stats certainly lend themselves to his ability to produce, not be flashy but get the job done, though I'm curious if his 200 tackles is an inflated figure.

Yeah...about as gay as spending hours reading and posting about dozens of 17/18 year old kids your not related to and eagerly following their every move for roughly a year through message boards that list their visits, videos and news articles. I hear ya about how annoying it is for parents to say "look at how awesome my kid is..." but this is just a step up from personal highlight videos...not to mention the parents are lobbying for a free $160k education so they prob have another website devoted the type of boat they're gonna buy once he signs his LOI. I wish every ND recruit had this kind of site cause it makes them easier to follow and keep a pulse on what they're doing.

I agree with you. I'd probably do the same for my kid minus the music. Its all about marketing and PR. One of his parents is probably a website creator or something. Who knows, they could turn out to be the nicest people on the planet.
