http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/17/obama.veterans/ Like all Americans, I want the new administration to be a success but if this is an example of the leadership we can look forward to for the next 4 years I think we are in big trouble. This proposal is an outrage if not out & out treason. Out of the 24 million vets out there let us not forget that many were drafted into service. As a vet, I feel betrayed that something like this would even be considered. The possibility that this proposal by the President was made to get others off their butts and put on their thinking caps to come up with other ideas would make this instead of an outrage a show of strong leadership exists. I do so hope that is the case.

I concur Turk. I can not believe that anyone in government would suggest this. To think that our men and women put their lives on the line, lose limbs, or other capacities and that they would have to pay for it themselves is absolutely outrageous. I have to believe that they were serious about this because it had to be known that it would be a wildly unpopular move, and this administration seems to live and die by the polling numbers in my opinion, otherwise why would he be going on Leno this week when it seems like they are more constructive ways to be spending his time IMO.

I posted this in a different thread.....

If this really happens, it may very well be the most assinine policy ever put forth by a President, any President. I can't even believe that a person can think this is a good idea, or justify it in any way.

How can you send a soldier into harms way, he/she gets hurt defending their country and enforcing the policies of the United States Gov't and they you try and have a private insurance company pay for the injury, instead of the federal govt ?

Absolutely idiotic.......

The fact that it was even put forth means he felt there was some support for it which I find most disconcerting to say the least.

I absolutely agree, if this is the mindset of this administration, we are in serious trouble.

There it is Dog.

A little inside scoop on how the VA works. For non service related issues it is a co-pay system. Depending on your income you pay at a given rate. I wanted to see a doctor so I took my DD 214 (discharge papers) and went to the VA hospital. They took my name address and contact info & sent me home to await the paperwork I needed to fill out. I think I waited about 2 months before they got to me. I filled out the paperwork and sent that in. That was 3 and a half years ago and I'm still waiting for them to set up an appointment with a doctor.

I think this is BS for a completely different reason. All you conspiracy theorists will eat this up. All this is, is a way for the military/government to be able to cost shift the medical expenses to the "People" instead of the government. Why? Anyone ever hear of Nationalized Health Care????? This is the setting for this to occur. Essentially, it is a way of raising the taxes on the American people, even higher so that the government can keep more of the money that they "legally" collect from us via taxes, so that we ,the taxpayer, have no idea that our taxes went up. They will pump this as some "patriotic" thing to do.

First of all...Did anyone actually think that an extreme left President would be good for our nation's military? Still think it's a good idea to close down Gitmo? What does Obama do when we pull out of Iraq and Iran moves in?

Secondly, I find it ironic that this proposal was put forth by Dems as a solution to a BUDGET problem. A budget problem? C'mon Dems...SPEND SPEND SPEND SPEND. I have an idea where they could find the 500+ million. Don't bailout California. Call the loan to the auto industry. Enact a 99% tax on AIG executive bonus'. Cut a quarter of the 8,500 earmarks in the omnibus spending package... you know, the earmarks that he campaigned to illiminate. How about we sell the thousands of mobile homes that have yet to be occupied by hurricane Katrina refuges. They're still sitting in a field in Alabama. We could sell them to people that should not have owned a home and lost it. Kill two birds with one stone. Sell them for 10K a piece and poof, you've just "found" $50 million. And my personal favorite...decrease the order for the new fleet of presidential hellicopters. The cost of the new hellicopters has swollen to 13 BILLION DOLLARS. To me, that is as scandalous as AIG bonus'. The new presidential fleet of whirly birds will contain 28....YES...28 hellicopters at a "for now" price of $13 billion. Doing the math, that means that each one costs just over $464 million. So Obama needs to find $500+ million and his solution is to cut medical coverage for the millitary instead of decreasing his hellicopter fleet WAY down to 26? That, is true brilliance.

Look, I personally thought it would take Obama a little longer than 2 months to destroy his ideology, but there was no doubt that it would happen. He is high on charisma, and low on policy and experience...PERIOD.

I had hoped that he would at least be a decent human being, but now I guess that is shot now too......

Y'all are ranting to much for just about 50 days. And if you want to talk about the helicopters...gee whiz those were ordered under bush (lower case) The VA sucks but it will take more than 50 days to unwind the tangled mess.

The wheels on this administration have fallen off much faster than I ever expected. Their unprofessionalism is killing them, especially with Gibbs on the podium. What bothers me is the people. I hear so many people say, "I didn't know he was going to do ________ ." Fill in the blank. I just have to mutter, do you follow politics. Did you watch the campaign. Do you understand this guy is farther left than Hillary. I put periods instead of question marks because those are statements to me. Obama will be worse than Jimmy Carter and do more damage. I am just waiting for television to turn on him like they've turned on every other president. I look forward to it, because Barack is such a prima donna that he gets riled up over it. I love it.

Hussein is killing this country faster then i thought:twisted::twisted::twisted:

I just want to say for those that wanted """""change"""" well you got it......... sad time for America

You're right about the choppers Sir John and the VA has sucked for ever. Obama has a can of worms dumped in his lap that's for sure but the way he is going about fixing the mess and the ideology I see has me concerned. I do hope you will be able to tell us "I told you so" in the end. I do not have faith in this administration but I do have faith in America & Americans so I know it will take a lot more than a bad president to bring us down. Knee jerk reactions and shooting from the hip decisions that are being made now may well settle down and a good president may emerge. I don't hold out much hope for that at present but as you say it's too early to pass judgement. What a great country we live in where these different opinions can be expressed without fear and then we all come together on Saturday and root for the same football team. Thanks to some good men who didn't make it to veteran status we are all able to do this.

PS - I'm bringing a lawsuit against Gore and the other global warming screamers for fraud. Yes, the Earth is warming, but no, it's not manmade. There is no proof it is manmade, and scientists at MIT said the same thing. If there is anyone I would trust, it's someone from MIT, not Harvard. You see what the Harvard idiots have done to our economy. The best bet on the warming would be sunspots and the activity of the radiation coming from the sun. Second, warming is going to happen sometime, why don't we adapt and quit trying to hold on to something we can't change? People are scared over nature. This is crazy. AND, there are people making money off of it. Al Gore is suspect number 1.

The sun warms things?

I posted an article about this last night, but apparently my posts need to be screened by a mod before they appear.

Anyway, I don't see this having any chance of succeeding. As far as I know, there's quite a few politicians who oppose it.

I'm not aware of any screening of new posts unless the mods have a default for so many posts to eliminate bots. Sir John / donjuan or one of the other guys will tell you
