Torrey Davis leaves Florida - http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3980230

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida defensive tackle Torrey Davis, who made two goal-line tackles in the national championship against Oklahoma, has left the team.

School spokesman Steve McClain confirmed Davis' departure Saturday, but would not divulge the reason for his decision.

Davis, a sophomore from Seffner, had academic trouble and at least two off-the-field problems during his time in Gainesville. He was cited for alcohol possession and driving with knowledge of a suspended license.

One of the nation's top recruits in 2007, Davis had 15 tackles and two sacks in two seasons. His highlight came when he stuffed Oklahoma's Chris Brown on consecutive plays from the 1-yard line in the second quarter of a 7-7 game. The Gators won 24-14.

Looks like Urban Liar got his championship from his thugs...

I DON'T THINK YOU CAN BLAME COACH MEYER ON THIS KID, I THINK THE PARENTS WERE A LITTLE RESPONSIBLE, COACH GAVE HIM A CHANCE, HE BLEW IT , HOPE HE TURNS HIS LIFE AROUND AND RECOMMITS TO STAYING CLEAN . :p

As a Florida Alum, i will state again, Urban "Please bring in quality athletes as well as quality students and kids!" I am totally stoked about the NC's you brought to Florida, but some of these guys are pure thugs.

On a side note Urban is a very tough disciplinarian. (Not like Petey) but he has brought in some kids that even he can't keep under control. Even with his random stops at player dorms during the week.

go gators! GO IRISH!

island domer don't take this the wrong way cause you're a nice guy and all, but only a bonafide schizophrenic could write go gators / go irish.............

he's a disciplinarian when it's convenient to him. don't make me site examples. Urban has no integrity

Here is a quick example, from a first hand reference. I was friends with Jarvis Moss while at the University of Florida. He played under both Zook and Meyer. Jarvis told me that in Urban's first week on campus he called him at 10:15 on a wednesday night. Urban asked "Hey Jarvis what are you up too?" Jarvis answered "Not much coach, just hanging out in my dorm room." Urban replied "Oh good, ring me up, i am down stairs."

Jarvis said he learned his lesson right away that Urban wasn't messing around. He said that Urban was night and day more strict than Zook. (I am not using Zook as a example of a clean cut coach) But Meyer is better than a lot of coaches that don't do nearly as well as he does.

Jarvis has told my friends as well as myself that Meyer is a VERY strict disciplinarian. I know he has let himself down, as well as people like me who went to school there. Unfortunately a good bit of bad comes along with the greatness you get with Meyer.

Sorry to everyone here at DD for defending Urban, I'll try to make sure it never happens again.

easy there island. i was kiddin' with ya. it's good to have you here offering a different side of UF sports. a little objectivity never hurt. i'm just not a fan, personally. rooting for them certainly doesn't make you less of a person. just odd..........;);)

No offense taken guys! I like the Gators because i went to school there. As for being schizophrenic, i wrote go gators, as in saying it softly without real energy. The GO IRISH means, it's the only sporting team that matters to me.

Besides the recruiting battles, I don't see why we would be enemies. We have only played once, and the IRISH, with God, and Bettis steam rolled the lowly Gators.

Urban is not a bad man either, I have met him as well. Seems like a great Catholic family man. Just like Billy Donovan. UF is well represented by two great catholics.

p.s. As Urban has stolen recruit after recruit from us I have started to become angry with him too. I actually almost broke my monitor after Trattou and Major Wright defected. YES I do hate him for things like that though.

Yah you have to tread lightly when it comes to urban island. For some reason some people see him as just the worst person in all of sports and i just dont understand why. (Im guessing because he chose FL over ND, got a couple of recruits to do the same, and has been incredibly successful down there but that doesnt warrant the constant hatred)

There was one poster who said even at the mention of Meyer being our next coach he would burn everything ND he had. For whatever reason the negativity directed toward Urban seems to be at an entirely different level then anyone else (except Petey, i would have to say those 2 are 1 and 1a) and i just dont get why.

i've read people writing they "hate" this coach and that coach, however i find it really hard to hate a coach. i may find some tactics employed by coaches unethical or some coaches may not present themselves well due to their allegiances to their school in rivalry to our own team, however i don't believe that's hate. saying that, urban has proven that he is a very good football coach who, at times, employs off-field tactics that may be considered questionable. i say let's focus on nd's team in '09 and let the rest play itself out

You have the right thinking on that topic my friend.

Stolen? Trattou, Wright, and Hunter didn't have to take his calls. I hardly think Meyer broke down their doors and forced them to sign. Urban won the recruiting war over these guys; it's that simple. Given that you're a UF alum, I see no need for you to shy away from Urban. He's an unbelievable coach, and quite possibly the very best in the game right now. He doesn't seem to lose the big ones (Poodle can't say that, nor Tressel, nor Stoops). Regardless of what you hear on these boards, we're still stinging from losing him.

That's where it all comes from. I had to read the local papers when meyer was hired "The man named after 8 Popes, turned down the chance to shake down the thunder, and wake up the echoes at Notre Dame to be the head coach at UF.etc etc"

He did call Trattou when NCAA rules said he couldn't though. I read that in the Gainesville papers.

He is an amazing coach and no one can deny that. All he does is win win win.

.830 winning percentage. That is in the same ball park as Leahy and Rockne. 83-17 all time, not to mention Bowling Green was 2-9 the year before he arrived.

Ok Sir John, I promise no more gator talk.

GO IRISH!

Bob Stoops, Jim Tressel...yes, they do seem to lose the big ones, but the Poodle is on an entirely different level when it comes to the big ones. It's those ridiculously little ones(Oregon St., Stanford (?!), UCLA) that he can't seem to win. :-)
