We all know that since Lou left, Notre Dame football has been lack luster to say the least. I believe Charlie can be the guy to take us back to the way things use to be. I for one am tired of the constant changes with our head coaching, granted the changes were needed but having the unpleasent misfortune of living in PSU country I have to say that I admire how they have kept Joe at the helm even during some rough seasons. I think Charlie does a ton of things right from recruiting to involvement in the community to understanding what Notre Dame football is about. I think he is starting to understand the college game from personnel groupings to the modern day student. It seems as tho the players really respect him as well. Heck, he put this team ahead of himself when he cotinued to coach from the sideline on those bad knees. He has self confidence in the worst of times, some people might take that as arrogance, but I don't think you can be successful in any business without confidence regardless of the situation. In my opinion he will need 10 wins to stay on, which I think should be the case, and I think they will achieve this, I think they beat USC end up 11-1. I just want ND football to return to what it was so my son understands why it is that Saturdays are a religious holiday, why there are pictures of me watching the Notre Dame UCLA game before my wedding, and why there are pictures of me watching Notre Dame Purdue during my wife's labor. I'm just tired of the coaching carousel and pray to the almighty that we win atleast 10 this season.

Great post Gettisburg, I for one agree with you/)

i remember reading a conversation with charlie and i think ianello in which they both said that year 3 was going to be a down year due to numbers. i have confidence that this team is improving and that the staff is improving (in terms of tactics, knowing their personal, and knowing their limitations). "Rome wasn't built in a day," but it sure is beautiful. everything is in place...talent, coaching in their respective areas of expertise, schedule to give the boys some confidence,... i believe this is the year ND makes a statement b/c i'm loyal to a fault!

Long enough too, could pretty well call that The Gettysburg Address! : )

Don't fret Gettysburg----- we've got TOP 20 TALENT---and a BOTTOM 20 SCHEDULE--thats a volatile & exlposive combination-- charlie & co will give us a year of fun instead of pain in 2009--- this year will be the most fun since 1993! aloha

I want him to succeed as well so I can be entertained on Saturdays. It would also be nice to see a guy do well who is doing it the right way without cheating and having actual student athletes. As far as Im concerned most of the big time programs today are a farce.

Right on Gettysburg! I agree with you, Charlie seems to have everything we would want in a Notre Dame football Coach. We just need to produce a bunch of W's this season. How can anyone not want this guy to succeed. Finally, how hilarious, before the wedding, and during labor, i thought i was one of the only insane ones. Thanks for the inspiration Gettysburg!

Very nice post. I too want to see CW succeed. He is definitely the guy I "want" representing our team.

I think 8 wins is the magic number for him. If we get 8+ and look good doing it, then he is fine. If we get 8 wins or less and look crappy, then I think he will be packing.

On a side note, if we beat USC who would we lose to? I think we end up 10-2 or 9-3. I don't think we can take USC yet.....but I feel it in my bones that we are getting close.

this cannot be stated enough, IMO. just look at the NFL draft. one ND guy invited to the combine. ONE. UNO. UNE. how is god's name do we think we should be better when we have ONE SENIOR the NFL thinks is worthy of a combine invite?

that speaks VOLUMES to the lack of talent left in the cupboard after year 3.

Finally, the voice of reason.

I'm as diehard a fan as any but I always wonder how people can overlook that fact. Our upper classman are just not there. Yes we have Bruton. Whoever replaces him may or may not have his talent. Turk, Lambert, Crum, and Grimes had ok years but their replacement will have more talent, size, and speed.

i wouldnt say a bottom 20 schedule

we have a weak schedule, but not that weak

Not to be a pessimist because I too think this is going to be a great season but how many guys did Florida have at the combine

Yeah i would still argue that it is in the top 50 hardest schedules in 09'. It is February so a lot could change by late November!

Oh yeah four Gators are at the Combine; Harvin, Ingram, Watson, and Murphy.

That's more than Miami and F$U combined. Haha

I too come from PSU country, and I gotta say it's awful. They have more irrational fans than Brian Cushing has steroids.

That said, I want to see ND return to glory as well. I'm a young'n, so I can't harken back to the days of Notre Dame's former glory. I don't remember the Holtz era or ever beating USC. Somehow, probably through my dad, I have become a huge Notre Dame fan. I bleed blue and gold, and will defend them to the death to both my friends and people I've only just met. I want Notre Dame to return to glory because they are Notre Dame. College football wouldn't be the same without them.

I want Charlie to succeed because of everyone saying he can't and because of everyone who puts him down. I want the man to prove everyone wrong and put some swagger back in the Irish. I'm sick and tired of hearing about how Notre Dame isn't what it used to be. I'm sick of hearing how good USC and Florida are. I'm sick of everyone calling him "the fat man." I'm sick of Notre Dame being the butt of everyone's jokes.

I read someone else on this board post, "You need the crucifixion before the resurrection." And ladies and gentlemen, I believe it's going to be one damn fine resurrection.
