chance carter-6/4-- 235--currently unrated-- weakside defensive end from evanston ill----as everyone knows he is very high on us-- and i guess the staff really likes him as well---another brainy lineman -- lol--- only a few offers-- stanford - vanderbilt-- wisconsin-- he is taking his last trip he says to stanford coming right up and then a decision-- apparently he wanted to commit earlier and he was encouraged to be sure and take his trip--- in any case-- i dont really know what kind of prospect chance is-- but it does appear he will be our next commit!-- within a week or two i guess!

yea nothing new on him. he leaves for the long awaited trip to stanford on 2/26 which is tomm. I'm not sure how long he's staying, but he should decide soon after.

I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up like Fleming's recruitment, when he's in the bag privately before he announces it. Again, you never say never, but I wouldn't be shocked if Carter shows up at one of the junior days or the spring game and announces his verdict.

Apparently his Stanford visit went bad for us.

Chance Carter is quoted on saying Stanford passed ND and made everything real tough. He visits his other top three school, Wisconsin this week.

Yep, Stanford is now his favorite. Palo Alto is very nice this time of year and its a great school.

disturbing news. Hopefully we can get him in a few times for Spring Practice & then the B&G gm like Fleming.

He says he's going to call ND tonight whatever that means. I guess we'll see in a few days what's going on. Im curious if Charlie and staff have cooled on him a bit?

I honestly can't say I'd be too hurt if we lost this kid. I wasn't impressed by his film and we have a ton of DE offers out and we have a legit shot at several. The only problem is it would be nice to have him in the bag since we struck out last year.

As a regular Joe run of the mill fan, I'd like to say this isn't a big deal. Target # was 3 DEs, tons of offers, look real good with Blake, things will be fine in the end for us.

Bigger picture though?

A) Whoever the staff offers early typically ends up being really good (Robinson, Floyd, Te'o all come to mind). I'm not head over heals over his film, but I'm no football coach, and these guys are way more educated on football than I'll ever be.

B) Its Stanford, meaning we'll have to play against this kid if we don't end up getting him.

C) We had this guy in the bag. I don't know the rhetorical specifics, but the sound of it is he tried to commit to us and we told him "look around". Any way you slice that, it hurts.

I hope we can turn this ship around. It can be done, but its not terribly promising news.

Im going to continue on record that I'm not huge on his ability and this would be a blessing in disguise. I understand the idea that our early offeres have been studs in the past but not always. Sometimes they are just kids we are most familiar with, and considering Weis approach to the DE position this year he was clearly going to offer 10+ guys.

Chance seems like a good kid and I'd be happy for him at Stanford, but he's not in my top 7 targets at his position

We're starting to sound like the U of M, "dodged-a-bullet" crowd. He's a pretty good player to have been already offered by the staff, and would definitely be an asset for ND. :)

Screw you guys I want him in Blue and Gold bad.

He is a straight athlete, the type of athlete we need to develop so he can give us solid playing time in his upperclassmen years.

This is a big position of need in our own backyard.

Wait a minute now.... Don't get on Tchris he's been saying since the beggining that he didn't like this kid's film and didn't want him. Go back and look.

We still have a very good shot at this guy. It will be telling if he is still high on Stanford after he goes to Wisconsin next week. Until then, we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm going on the record as saying I would really like to sweep Chicago land this year, and I think Carter is our first real test at getting it done. If we can get Carter and Cooper in the bag, we should have a good shot at Parter and CJ.

I can understand Chris's take too. A good point for his argument would be the # of offers Carter has. Stanford is offering EVERYONE and their brother, which doesn't mean a whole lot, and he's got what, 2-3 offers outside of the Irish and them?

I tow the "In Weis We Trust" line with most of these recruits, but its not unanimous support for Carter, which is understandable.

We are going to get one of these guys. Which one or two?

Personally I love Baldwin, sight unseen i love Clemmings for some reason, Odighizuwa, and Ferguson. The southern kids I like too but I just don't think we have a shot at the South Carolina guys or the texas guys
