The insight doesn't count. We were in the middle of a freaking coaching change. Do you think our players were really going to play their best? No... They didn't care as much as they should. We shouldn't have been at the Fiesta because we played NOBODY that year. Lovecchio was awful. That was like putting Sharpley at QB and saying, well he didn't throw any INTs against Navy. Awesome. There's a standard to live by. We never should have been in that bowl. As far as the Gator, we were thin on talent as it was. When we lost the players we lost, there wasn't much chance. I think we'll be fine this year. We should make a BCS, but if we don't we'll be in an upper tier alternative. The next year, we'll definitely be in a BCS bowl. To say National Title, though, is insane. You can't predict that at all. There are so many factors that go into it besides your actual play on the field.

With a starting position in the polls that ND will have, it will be very difficult to achieve a ranking sufficient enough to get into a BCS bowl. The schedule pans out very nicely, but we will need no less than 11-1 or there will be NO BCS bowl.

And that my friends, is very unlikely. Let's get a Gator Bowl win before we move into the elite.

i like the enthusiasm hawaii, but honestly im not expecting great season until i see first couple games either, this is still the team that lost to sryacuse on senior day

I still say 8-4. I have this horrible sinking feeling that we drop a close one to Nevada right off the bat. Ends up setting a mediocre tone the rest of the season. Eternal pessimist.

BCS is if we are undefeated. Looking at schedule it could go great or horrible with one loss to a crap team really being a black eye.

NEVADA, NEVADA, are you serious Echo? I would have a hard time waking up in the morning if i believed we were going to drop the opener to Nevada. But I do agree, until they prove themselves, who knows how low this group can go. I see 11 regular season wins. I like the rest of you, have spent a lot of time since the Sugar Bowl 07' talking about give Charlie the time to rebuild, reload, adapt, etc. I had always said wait for 09' and 10'. I fully expect this squad to kick ass and take names! If they don't I will be very disappointed. Come on IRISH get up and GO!

Maybe it's a side effect of thinking we were going to bury SDSU last year.....

 

It just scares me.

i think that the Irish will be a good team this year, however we must play good football to get into a bcs game, TD is correct we have to wait till we play a few games and we must be physical, and hope the other teams falter otherwise we will be on the outside looking in on a bcs bowl , Texas would kick our butts, there just more physical, of course that could change with tenuta calling the plays and the line coach getting involved . go :pIrish

I think NASTY finally arrives in 09', it will have been a long wait, but a wait worth it, none the less. If we are finally that Intelligent, Hardworking, Tough, Nasty team we have been waiting for. I think we come out as physically and mentally tough as any team in the country this year.

I've been watching ND Football too long to predict a win against MSU and BC. Sorry, perhaps I'm way off (hope so) but, again, this team has a lot to prove this year.

Ringer is gone correct? and with the whole coaching change in BC im feeling confident in those picks but you are right out of all the games State and BC always worry me.

Ringer is gone- Hoyer is gone- Threet is gone- L mccoy is gone - Those two incredible tackles at BC are gone--Most of the SC defense is gone- Sanchez is gone-- Painter is gone--The BC coach is gone-- Michigans confidence is gone--- lots of things breaking our way ---- and i dont see how we have to be undefeated to get to a BCS game-- 11- 1 absolutely-- but i would give odds that a colorful ,strong ,10 and 2 devoid of any lopsided losses-- will also get us in fairly easily

nevada is no gimmie, they have a great rushing attack if im not mistaken, and ND's D's weakness is run deffense, i just cant say ND has a gimmie game after they lost to sryacuse, u just dont do that, especially on senior day

I think with the strength of our schedule being lower then normal, if we lose 1 game we will be kept out of the BCS. I would love a BCS bowl game but if we were to win out and only lose to USC everyone is going to say we beat up a bunch of no talent teams and lost to the only talented team. I agree with you on most of your points but i will say Michigan is probably going to be alot better then last year(we should still beat them).

so true chitown--thats the big game IMO-- michigan will be better-- they do have lots of good players-- and they are at HOME-- but they arent a confident team- or a coordinated team- and they break in another QB-- WE HAVE TO WIN THIS TO HAVE A GREAT YEAR---- but on the bcs-- it doesnt matter waht anyone says about our team-namely espn and their surragets----if we qualify -- that means what the top 14 or whatever it is-- WE WILL GET AN AT LARGE BID---we will bring the ratings and the money as always ---- their may be some criticism--but not that much --the decision is made by rich guys looking for their bottom line and not ND haters who would luv to see us go to the emerald bowl at 11 and 1 !
