his junior year was his first year playing QB in HS. He started at WR his frosh/soph years.

sky's the limit for this kid

There is a new AMP piece up: http://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=925433

Blake talks recruiting and mentions 5 or 6 visits he plans to take this spring, none of which include ND. He doesn't mention ND at all in the piece. So, doesn't look like we will be getting this kid.

A) Just one interview.

B) Its March.

It sounded like he was going through his already planned itinerary, not who he hopes to visit. Lets not make sweeping generalizations based off of a small sample of data. Way too early to call him one way or another.

All I know is it is hard to be optimistic about a kid who names 5 or 6 schools that he'll be visiting, then going on to say that after that, he'll have a good idea who his favorites are.

And I'm saying is, if you've seen his other interviews, you wouldn't be so pessimistic about this one.

My best guesstimate here is, he listed all the schools he currently has concrete travel plans with, and left out the schools he's still trying to pencil in a date for or that are simply tentative. His list was hardly a "top 5" list, and I find it funny that his comments came right after stating how its a little early to come up with a list of favorites.

Like I said, its one interview, and its March. Let this thing play out before we bury the kid, because I'm not convinced that he's done making travel plans for the spring.

Blake Bell has some of the best tape I've seen on a QB. I think he is better than Terrelle Pryor right now but with far less hype. In fact, I'm going to say he is going to be the best QB in CFB in 3-4 years.

My guess is that he goes to Oklahoma.

I can't say he's better than Pryor right now. Pryor made running in HS look easy, which is why the Vince Young comparison's came up. Bell plays in Kansas.

Only way he becomes the best QB in CFB in 4 years is if he goes to Oklahoma. All of their QB's throw for ridiculous numbers.

Only because they run for ridiculous numbers....

I'm so unimpressed by him it's not even funny.

His mechanics are OK at best. His throws are always soft, and never deep enough. He is athletic and is tall. That's about it

Bell cut his list to: Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, Georgia, UCLA, Clemson, Notre Dame, LSU, Iowa and Iowa State.

And patches, lets not forget the kid played WR his first 2 yrs of HS.

I think he goes to Oklahoma personally, but who knows.

I know you're just trying to make a strong statement about where he's going patches, but I'm about to go soap boxing again. This isn't directed at you so much as growing frustration over time. Pre-emptive apologies, none of this is meant to be personal.

Lock is a phrase that we need to throw out the window, and leave on the side of the curb permanently. I just shake my head when I hear the word "lock," especially when its about a kid that is visiting a slew of campuses in the spring. Between the likes of Carroll, Kiffen, Meyer, etc, guys who will go to extreme lengths to get a kid, a lot of things can change a player's perspective about a given program.

Manti Te'o? "USC lock".

Eric Shrive? "ND lock".

A year ago today, Seantrel Henderson was a lock for ND. Now we're hearing that staying close to home might be important to him, or that tOSU or USC has got his ear. Whatever happened to being a "lock"?

Lock is dramatically overused, which in turn has cheapened the value of the word itself. Its kind of like a kid saying, "I'm committed." 5-10 years go, you believed him when he said it. A kid says that today, and it has gotten to the point where kids need to state their definition of commitment when they make the statement, because nobody trusts it when a kid says it now. Or, for that matter, recruit X thinks of commit like Bryce Brown; save a spot on the bus and take all 5 officials to other schools, while recruit Y thinks of commit like Chris Martin; tell the recruiter he's already made the decision, pause, then hang up the phone. Same goes for "lock" today. Every time someone is reported as a lock, or "all Irish", etc, and that blows up in our faces, it demeans it for when it is actually true.

I know people are eager, but there's a difference between who is leading the horse race, and calling the winner before he technically crosses the finish line.

Unless your last name is Golic and you've got an offer from ND, nobody is a lock in recruiting any more.

Very solid post. Actually changes my mind now...

Oklahoma LEAN.

Oklahoma STROOOOOONG lean.

Now, THAT I can agree with.
