BGI did pretty good with their predictions.

They predicted 8 frosh would play their 1st yr with Braxton Cave being the only frosh they predicted to preserve a yr of eligibility even though he was the long snapper early in the season. 9 actually played and they predicted 7 of those with Jonas Gray & Joseph Fauria being the surprise additions.

In '05, 11 of the 15 frosh played in their first year. That's ridiculous and just shows how Ty killed us. He signed a total of two OL in two years ('03 & '04).

Did Braxton play a limited number of minutes to possible qualify for a 5th year down the line?

I thought I've heard that kids can get a 5th year look at ND if their minutes were low enough as freshmen.

he only made a few appearances i believe in the 1st game so yes he can get a 5th year. the redshirt can come into effect if a player only makes a few appearances in the first few games.

How much playing time, if any, do you guys see Shaq Evans getting in 2009?

That's interesting. I guess I always thought the rule was, the second you stepped on the field, you burned your year of eligibility. Unless you were injured in the first 25% of the season, then you could apply for a medical-redshirt.

I know you could always petition the NCAA, but I thought those cases were few and far between.

I see him getting zero minutes next year.

WR is one of our most crammed spots on the depth chart, and I love that fact.

I know he's a playmaker and possible gamebreaker, but nothing really wants any part of me to see any part of him on the field next year.

The only way I see him getting on the field is if he comes in next year and just blows the coaches socks off.

If he is a true special teams threat to break it for a TD every time he gets the ball (and he may be), then he may be back there with Tate or AA on kickoffs.

I really really hope not though.

From what I have read about the WRs, and specifically w both Walker and Goodman, I could definately see Shaq staying off the field, and I would be ok with that. Shaq would have to jump both those guys, and I have read that Goodman is much better than he is given credit for and could really help the deep WR crew this year.

As far as Walker, it sounded like the only reason he did not play last year is because he had the shoulder injury and could have played late, but since he had already missed all the time, even though he was definately good enough to play, they decided to keep the year of eligibility for him.

I would be happy to see him maintain the yr spread from Goodman and Walker.

Who do you guys see as our number 3 and 4 at WR. Walker, Kamara? Walker, Goodman? I feel that Walker will be our number three and Kamara 4. Love to hear what you guys think!

I think in 3 WR formations this year we may see Tate in the slot and Kamara/Walker on the outside. In 2 WR sets though, obviously Tate's on the field with Floyd.

idk if you mess with success, though i think Tate would be productive inside or outside. i also think Goodman will emerge before Walker. Might not be that way by the end of their careers but I just think Goodman will emerge first.

Now this is the kind of problem to have- alot of good players fighting for PT.

with golden and floyd starting woithout doubt-- the spring battle between kamara--- walker--- and goodman-- will be the one to watch-- for 3 spot and 4 spot--------shaq will most likely sit--- BUT charlie hasnt kept a tailback off the field yet-- and i dont expect him to start with cierre --everything is on the line for charlie this year-- he wont hold back much--if summer practice goes as i expect-- i really think cierre wood and armando allen will be our kick returners against nevada !-- with golden specializing as the PR

I don't know hawaii, I see C Wood riding the pine too.

Unless of course, like Shaq, the coaches can't live without him on special teams.

A senior, 2 juniors, and a sophomore back ahead of him will make it pretty hard for him to see any PT though IMO.

Size-wise, he is different than those 4, but the 3 upperclassmen have so much experience, so why add C Wood to the mix?

Again, I hope he sits and develops too like Shaq.

yea i know that seems like the smart thing to do-- so many good backs--- BUT charlie is a funny guy-- after darius walker left as a jr-- i dont think charlie sees any potential to really getting 5 years out of a tailback, especially one that is very good!-- so if thats his view then there is no real percentage in saving a back for a 5th year he wont be here for--- and it is true that carries from scrimage are not likely with so many backs, unless we blow 6 opponents away in the first half-----BUT charlie made a point to call cierre " A DYNAMIC KICK RETURNER"--- we have had a very tough time with kickoff returns until armando let loose in the last game--- i just have a strong HUNCH dynamic means " damn id like to take a few more to the house next year"-- and armando and cierre would look scary back there-- but we'll see-- if hes going to do it -- it will probably be from the get go against nevada!

i think Shaq plays. yes we have some talented WRs, but Shaq has a talent with what he does after the catch (kinda like Golden). Unless that skill doesnt make the transition as a frosh, I see him getting some PT by midseason. Can never have too many weapons IMO.

All comes down to...can he run great routes and get free.
