It's a polite way of saying. I'm going to the box. Corwin can motivate these kids better than I can on the sideline and Tenuta is calling the defense.

Haha, that's what I'm thinking too. I just figured I'd get the thoughts of others. Thanks.:)

Well.. one stab in the dark..

in Universities, you have

Assistant Professors (grunts who don't have tenure)

Associate Professors (tenured, but not peer rank or authority)

Full Professors (tenured, well-regarded members of their fields and university communities.

Maybe Corwin is "tenured"

Not to mention screaming to other teams, "This guy is ready to be a Head Coach!!"

If the day Corwin leaves is after July 31, 2010, I will go to the store and buy a fifth of Jagermeister. I will then proceed to sit at my house all day by myself and get smashed off my behind while watching reruns of old network tv shows on various cable networks. If it is before that date, the act of obtaining this magic liquid that doesn't freeze in the freezer will be much more difficult, but I shall apply minimal effort.:drunk:

Nice replies from all of you. :-)

If Weis going to the box is true.... I want to be the first to congratulate Corwin Brown on being the new Head coach at Notre Dame..

You can't be a head coach from the box.. I think it might work though.

tdnd81 PLEASE tell me why you can't be a HC from the box. Do you really think that much of a HC's job is really done on gameday?

Just to be pain in the arse... but who is the HC at PSU?

Well it is NOT Joepa... He doesn't even go into the locker room at half.. And can you name one HC that has ever coached from the box besides the "coach" at PSU..

And to answer your Q Island.. I don't think you can be the head coach from the box, remember when Holtz dragged Huntley Bakich off the field by his face mask ? Hard to do from the box, also yelling at the official's and players is hard too.. I know there is more to it then yelling etc. But to make the right adjustments in game, i think you just don't get the "feel" of the game / players etc. from the box. I think it could be a great thing for ND but IMO he will be the OC, and the guy on the field, like the last 2,000,000 HC's in college will be the coach.

I don't care if its ever been done before or not, if CW decides to coach from the box and he wins, then its fine with me. Hell, I don't care if he coaches from Mars, just win....

They put JoePa in the box because he just gets in the way of the real coaches. The guy has not coached a second of the game in 4 years. His headset is turned off...and no one listens to him. JoePa is a figure at the school. He is basically a walking statue that doesn't get pooped on (by birds).

I completely agree TD.

Maybe this is just the easy way of "firing" CW and hiring the new coach. CW can take a demotion (to OC) and CB can be promoted to HC. The result is that no one really needs to be fired.....it is just a change in titles / duties.

I would have no issues if CB was HC, CW was OC, and Tenuta was DC....as long as we can get some Ws out of the deal and keep CB and Tenuta in Southbend.

I will be happy as long as the result is Ws. Keeping CB on the staff is also VERY important.

the best, and by best i mean not the best, way of thinking about it is if you replace "coach" with the words "wizard" or "pimp"(pronounced peeemp).

An associate wizard is basically, almost on equal ground with the full blown wizard, while assistant wizard only gets to look at one of the two books of magic spells. In pimp terms, an assistant pimp only gets to converse to full blown pimp and have input and control over the escorts on one of the many blocks that the full blown pimp extends his pimp hand over. While the associate pimp is the eyes and ears over the entire operation. The full blown pimp/wizard is grooming the associate to do greater things in the future.

I think this issue is now settled. I am sorry if anyone else has already posted a similar message about pimps and wizards.

If Weis calls the plays from the box doesn't mean he isn't doing the head coaching duties throughout the week. Most HC don't do much on the sideline during gametime anyway unless they are also the OC or DC. I think when the season starts Weis will be on the sideline and not in the box so people don't harp on him for not really being the coach at ND.
