Usually I'm happy with the moves that Charlie and co. make when recruiting, but is anyone else frustrated by the fact that they haven't offered anyone other than Heaps and Gardner? I know we have Jimmy for another 2 years and Dane for probably 4 but we need to bring a talented QB in this year to prep for the end of the Dane era. I don't want to go through another learning experience with a true freshman.

I keep seeing articles about Notre Dame showing interest in guys but not offering... well, all those kids are thinking that they aren't really wanted that badly. It looks bad.

Well FWIW, I think Heaps is a UW lean, Gardner said himself he's a spread offense QB who's coaches are trying to keep him open to anything and he likes LSU. Charlie has given an offer to Wood from Texas (maybe a bit too late) about to offer Blake Bell **** from Kansas. Bell to me looks like our best bet. He's 6'6" with a cannon arm, from a Catholic high school, and is mobile. Sounds like a winner to me. Im throwing my support to Bell. I hope the offer is not too late.

I personally think J Clausen goes pro after this year when he lights it up. Just my opinion. Then, Dayne takes over with no apperant help. Yet.

Really? Even with Bradford and McCoy coming out along with Tebow's star power?

I'm saying no way. Like mentioned before, the 2010 seniors are QB heavy and honestly JC isn't ready. He has plenty of work to do still at ND.

If we can land a second 5* tackle (Henderson from Minn.) that would go a long way for a top tier QB to chose ND as their college choice.

I don't think he'll come out... I think there's been a study showing that one of best predictors for success in the NFL at QB is the number of starts in College... Clausen would do well to keep compiling the starts, getting NFL QB training and avoid a draft that contains Bradford and Tebow.

I've been pretty frustrated with it as well. Maybe there just isnt that many QB's out there this year??? Who knows.

I still say we need two decent guys this year and then shoot for the moon next year...

i wouldnt worry too much about QB recruiting at this point-- its not just heaps-- or gardner-- either would be great of course-- as was mentioned he offered connor wood-- they have big interest in peter thomas and blake bell-- will probably offer nick montana before its all done-- i would expect we will end up offering 6 or 7 QBs and will be looking to land TWO!

Honestly, I believe that our QB recruiting situation is doing quite well. Everyone noticed our Hawaii Bowl shalacking and we are good. If anything we are going to land two high profile recruits. When it is all said and done, I believe Notre Dame will get Heaps and Wood or Whitmer and Bell.

Guesses:

Heaps: UDub or ND

Gardner: The OSU, Michigan, or ND

Wood: Texas or Oklahoma

Whitmer: If offered, ND

Bolden: If offered, ND or Michigan State

Pete Thomas: ND, Stanford, USC, or UCLA

Bell: ND, KSU, or Miami

If Jimmy puts up the numbers that most of us think he will, we shouldn't have any problems picking up two very solid QBs this year. Once all of the media jumps back on the CW is a QB and Offensive guru, genius, etc. I think the commitments will start rolling in. On a side note, i never think its too early to make an offer.

I think its going a little slow, but between Connor Wood and Blake Bell, we're taking the right steps. I'm definitely pulling for Pete Thomas and Robert Bolden to get offered though. Do that, and I'll be happy.

If we get someone by April, life will be fine. Ironically, the guy I feel we have the best shot at will probably take the longest to decide (Bolden).

why so confident about bolden? he's got some good offers already and we'd be late to the party

A) He's said he's waiting.

B) Seems turned off by the spread offense actually, and is looking for a little bit of everything in a given offense (so he's not bound for UM or anything).

If his offers are so great, what is he waiting for?

Not to mention, he camped with us last summer, so he's at least seen the campus.

Its tea leaf reading to be sure, but if he was simply turned off by the spread, I'd guess he'd close up shop and go with Michigan State. He's still waiting for more offers, and I'm guessing one of them is from Notre Dame.

Devin Gardner is no longer considering Ohio State, accrding to recruiting planet.

I cant remember if I posted it before but what the hell, this is a great board. I really like coming here just to talk about the team. No matter how idiotic a post, and Im sure Im going to make a few, nobody seems to cop an attitude over it. Thanks. :-D
