Repost as this recruit now needs his own thread.

He's offered.

We might have a good chance with this kid,,,,

Here's an interview, and it was done BEFORE his offer: http://www.totaluga.com/news/article...h-denzel-mccoy

“Growing up I was a Notre Dame fan,” he said. “But they're not a top school right now. Well, I don’t have any top schools right now, but they could move their way up to being a top school. I was always looking as a fan. I have to see if it's the right fit for me.”

I don't care too much for this quote though: “It could be by the end of this year, it could be later,” he said. “It depends who shows me the most love.”

We'll see.

A little confusing because in one instance he says he wants to stay close to home and in another, he says distance will not be a factor.

More:

ESPNU 150 Watch List defensive lineman Denzel McCoy is already holding scholarship offers from many programs from across the nation, according to affiliate Web site TheBigSpur.com.

He said, "I have offers from Notre Dame, Florida State, LSU, South Carolina, North Carolina, West Virginia, Stanford, Oregon, Duke, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan State, and a few others," McCoy said "I've visited FSU, UNC, Duke, Clemson, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Georgia, and Alabama."

Though McCoy says he does not have any favorites at this time, TheBigSpur reports Georgia Tech is believed to be the early leader.

McCoy, who doesn't plan to make an decision in the near future, added, "My decision will come down to how I feel around the school and how I connect with the coaching staff. Location will not be a factor."

If Tai'ler doesn't come, we've got no shot, IMO.

And remember, rhetoric about location not being a factor doesn't always work out. Look at Pollard - even though he wanted to bolt and grow as a person, Mom has other ideas for her son. Just saying - sometimes kids just say things, and other times kids mean it but their parents have other dieas.

As for McCoy, the dude was at every Georgia Tech home game last year. This would need to be a Corwin Brown special for me to feel very good about this. I wish I felt better, but I don't. I still think our DT is out there, waiting to be offered, but we'll see if we can make an impression on this kid over time.

What happened to the DT out of Minnesota? I thought we were pretty high on him too.

I think we've got a very good shot Denzel, word is he's going to visit for the B&G game along with Jones and his Dad.

I read that today somewhere as well. Could not confirm it though. It was something like, Tai'ler Jones is making the B&G game and bringing Denzel with him. Something to that affect.

Beau Allen is supposed to be great and should be offered soon by the staff. I know Coach Ianello is all over B Allen and S Henderson in MN.

The hold up with Allen was supposedly needing to look over the film. I know that as of his junior day (roughly 3 weeks ago?), the staff still hadn't received any film from him.

I know he's on their list, but where exactly I dunno. Looks like they're going after 1 DT, so they probably want to feel out McCoy a bit more before they move down the list. Its not like WR or OT, where we've carpet bombed the position with offers.

1 DT? i sure hope not

With the emphasis moving towards the 4-3 again with Tenuta on board, you look at that 08 haul and there's 4 DTs. The staff reportedly is high on all of them, which is very, very rare to get that big of a group and have the staff feel like all of them are going to pan out. I guess we're going to have to take the leap of faith with them, as 3 of the 4 interior guys didn't play at all last year.

Their bigger concern is with DE, and I wouldn't be shocked to see the Irish go for as many as 4. Looks like 3 is the target #, but if #4 is good enough...

We need this guy. Hopefully, if we get him, he won't pull an Om** Hun***.

what 4 are you talking about? Newman, H. Williams....and then ethan and cwynar? I'm not sure Ethan won't be a SE DE.

I also think Chris Martin will be a WE DE and not a LB for us, so i think that counts as one DE for that class already.

This is quickly getting off topic, but I'll post again to route things back to recruiting.

Chris, those were the four I was referring to.

Ethan is up to 285 from what ziggy is saying - in my book, thats closer to DT size than SDE size. Otherwise, they wouldn't be beefing him up like that. And there's still a long way to go before we break for fall camp, he might get up to 290 or so before he stops packing on weight before the season.

I'm a little surprised that they went that direction with Ethan as well, seeing as he was a HS DE and is a legitimate pass rush threat. His brother frequents the 4HL, and thats where he thought he would end up too. I definitely see where you're coming from.

That in mind, I honestly can't remember a play where Ethan didn't line up with someone flanking him on both sides - point being, he was almost always on the interior. I'm not sure that changes this year, unless there are injuries. Its probably going to be a combo of Neal, Fleming, KLM, and maybe even John Ryan manning the end spots (I know, I know, ya hate 'em as a player Chris, but he keeps finding his name penciled in on the two deep somehow, maybe he reverts to frosh form without the OLB role assigned to him).

My guess is inside, Ian and Ethan get the bulk of the reps, with Nwankwo and Cwynar spotting some breathers to Ethan, and Hafis and Newman giving Ian some plays off as well. Count Mullen and Stockton into the mix too, and suddenly it looks like we've got some depth at DT. I know what you're thinking, proof is in the pudding, but I seriously think we'll turn the corner on DT this year.

And as for Chris Martin, I agree. He might be the LB that lines up as "under" per the 4-3 under that Tenuta favors, but I think his future is with his hand planted on the ground primarily.

As for legitimate recruiting chatter, McCoy and Jones are talking about Spring Game legitimately. For now, its just talk, but some guys list of "favorites" doesn't mean near as much to me as where the kid has visited. If he comes up on his own dime, he's serious.

Thanks Calves. I haven't heard any decent recruiting chatter since signing day. Keep posting.

New article on IrishEyes that says that Denzel McCoy is impressed with Charlie Weis. Does anyone have premium that can explain what the article states?
