Place at the table?

Same except filer over toryan

I believe Te'o will play inside for the Irish, and he won't start, but will see playing time.

If I had to guess, I'd replace Te'o with Kerry Neal, and I don't think KLM will start. Not sure who I'd replace him with, though.

i think you'll see Neal/Fleming/Richardson/KLM sharing the 2 DE spots with Fleming getting perhaps the most time.

I wanted Toryan to establish himself as a starter last year but it never happened so it'll be tough for him to keep Filer off the field now.

I think our starting 3 backers will definately be B Smith, Teo, and either Filer/Toryan/Zeke. Not sure where Sergio fits into the "starting defense" but best believe he'll be playing a lot somewhere.

I'd like to see Blanton start opposite Walls cause it would mean he earned it over McNeil/Gray but we'll have to see how that plays out. That's an outstanding problem to have

having a lot of coaches with tons of experience at the pro level, I think that we're going to have a lot of DL shuffled in and out, and multiple LB sets as well. Same with DBs.

I think this will only help with recruiting b/c recruits will see that everyone is getting a chance to play.

Nice layout Ray. I see it that way too. I think we can afford to have a bruiser like Toryan in the middle with so much athletic talent everywhere else in the lb corp. We just need someone to shut down the run. I really hope he's the next Corey Mays(sp?) I absolutley loved that kid his senior year. Does anyone remember when he blew up Mich's running back r and put him out of the season. That was sick.

I change it up in my mind every week, but...

DL: Ethan Johnson (DE in 3-4; DT in 4-3)

DL: Ian Williams (NT in 3-4) & Hafis Williams (DT in 4-3)

DL: Mo Richardson (DE in 3-4; DE in 4-3)

DL: Darius Fleming/Kerry Neal (DE in 4-3)

LB: Darius Fleming/Kerry Neal (OLB in 3-4)

LB: Brian Smith (MLB in 3-4; SLB in 4-3)

LB: Toryan Smith/Scott Smith (MLB in 3-4; MLB in 4-3) in running situations

LB: Harrison Smith (OLB in 3-4; WLB in 4-3)

CB: Darrin Walls

CB: Robert Blanton

CB: Raeshon McNeil (Blanton/McNeil as Nickel)

FS: Sergio Brown

SS: Kyle McCarthy

Between the guys we've brought in this past year, and the desire to be labeled a FS for a long time, I'm guessing Harrison goes back into the secondary. His HS film at FS absolutely rocked; I think he ditches the extra bulk he played at LB with, and goes back to the position he needed reassurance on playing during his recruitment.

I also have a hunch based on the comments that the staff is going to go out of their way to get KLM on the field.

Per the labels given on the depth chart, our 2 deep vs. Nevada:

FS:

Harrison Smith

Sergio Brown

SS:

Kyle McCarthy

Ray Herring

CB:

Darrin Walls

Gary Gray

CB:

Robert Blanton

OR

Raeshon McNeil

Nickel:

Sergio Brown

Raeshon McNeil

Mike:

Toryan Smith

Manti Te'o (I think Te'o is the clear cut starter by the end)

Anthony McDonald

Jack:

Brian Smith

David Posluszny

Sam:

Steve Filer

Scott Smith

Zeke Motta (He'll get his share vs. spread teams later on)

Will:

Kerry Neal

Darius Fleming (this will be another back and forth position)

DE:

Ethan Johnson

Emeka Nwankwo

Sean Cwynar

NT:

Ian Williams

Paddy Mullen

Brandon Newman (solidifies #2 status by end of year)

DE:

Kapron Lewis-Moore

Morrice Richardson

John Ryan

I don't see Toryan getting much playing time next year unless he absolutely dedicates himself this offseason and takes the spot. He was looking a little "pudgy" last year, like he wasn't putting that much into it. I wanted him to take the spot last year, but it never really happened and he only got in b/c B. Smith got hurt. I just think there are starting to be too many athletes around him and he will get lost in the shuffle...

When he got in there, he did make a few plays. It was what, 9 tackles and an INT in that Navy game?

At any rate, I only have him in there because I think the staff wants to move Brian back to his natural position of OLB, and will make room for Te'o's ascent. Toryan gets the nod early while Manti gets his feet wet, but it'll happen in time. A real similar PT path that Floyd had would be my guess.

i think we will see some changes with the new DLINE coach-- and i agree there is going to be lots of rotation-- keeping lots of good players fresh and getting experienced------ i say we open with a 4-3---------ethan johnson- ian williams-- brandon newman-- darius flemming---- with KLM and hafis williams-- roatating in often----- LB 3 guys that will play alot-- OLB brian smith-- inside Manti teo-- OLB kerry neal-----steve filer roatating in ---- backfield----rashon--- and D walls at corner------ kyle and harrison at safety--- with blanton and sergio roatating in regularly--- sometimes we will see the harrison deal where a safety will take that 4th LB spot- with a 3man line and all 6 DBs on the field-------the big changes-- darius flemming will take up residence at the left defensive end------manti teo will start ---brandon newman and Hafis will join ian TO ANSWER WHERES THE BEEF----sergio brown will be a starter with no job--- he will be all over free safety-- strong safety-- LB---KLM- will be a new force in pass rushing-- we have IMO about 17- 18 players that will be playing musical sack the QB--- in what i think will be THE STINGIEST MOST ENERGETIC DEFENSIVE WE HAVE HAD IN A LONG LONG TIME!!!!

i guess what you say is likely but it is hard for me to believe that toryan will finally "turn it on" this year. he's been given every opportunity to start for about 3 years now and he has failed to "grasp the ring" each time. now, it's possible he has a break-out senior season, that happens more than we think but as of right now? i'm from mizzou when it comes to toryan, the navy game notwithstanding...

This is my take but I am no expert. Just a guess.

- I agree that the DLine will have lots more rotations than last year.

- I want Filer, Fleming, and Teo to win the LB spots as opposed to H Smith, Toryan, etc so we can upgrade the size and athleticism of our linebackers. I know H Smith is a great Athlete but he is a great Safety Athelete. Small for a LB.

- I want to see many of the 08 class play to get experience so we don't have another dip in production due to graduation

- I want to see Blanton and Gray onthe field at the same time as Walls and McNeil in passing downs.

- I want to see many of the 09 class redshirt for the future.

DE - KLM (Richardson will get regular rotational playing time)

DE - Ethan Johnson (Cwynar will get regular rotational playing time)

DT - Ian Williams (Brandon Newman, Hafis Williams will both get regular rotation playing time)

Stockton Redshirts

OLB/DE Hybrid - Neal (Fleming will get regular rotational playing time)

OLB - Teo

ILB - B Smith (Macdonald will get some playing time for experience)

ILB - Filer

Zeke, Calabrese, Fox will Redshirt.

CB - Walls (Gray will get regular passing down playing time in nickel and dime packages)

CB - McNeil (Blanton will get regular passing down playing time in nickel and dime packages)

FS - H Smith (Slaughter will get some playing time for experience)

SS - K McCarthy (D McCarthy will get regular playing time for experience)

Banks will Redshirt

I'd be shocked if Stockton redshirts if he stays healthy. He didn't enroll early at a position of dire need to take a redshirt.

You are probably right BTW ESPN agrees with you. They think Stockton can make an immediate impact.

Hey, if that is true and earns his playing time, I'm jumping for joy. Like I said I am no expert.
