well the tone and flavor on the boards is very negative today-- that may not mean much but lets face it-- our track record on waiting for guys till the end is absolutlely abysmal----so it may very well be we hit the BIG ZERO on NSD-- this wont real surprise anybody-- we will be disappointed but i doubt anyone will actually be surprised given the way our recruiting goes--( we may very well still get thigpen though after NSD)--- whats the lesson here-- well i think the days of waiting for a few top guys that string it out all the way till the end and invariable pick someone else--those days have to stop--we have to face reality-- if we cant get em by november , odds are very heavy we wont get em at all--- no more of the 50 offer business or we will never get close to 85 schollies--- i would say if this year busts out-- we should greatly expand our offers-- to at least 85 offers--- we save two at most till the end--and forget about living in dreamworld that this stud or that will swing our way in late jan or NSD--- lets not let the perfect be the enemy of the good-- something we have dont way too much---this year has alot of talent-- so charlie should at least try to fill this class by october november-- after that we dont really get recruits often---actually we loose more then we get late---- so lets be more aggrassive with these offers-- cast a wider net-- and actually get a class of 24 or 25 players rather then 18 players hoping for a strong finish!

I agree Hawaii. There are times that I think we are FAR too choosy with our offers. We often put all of our eggs in one basket, i.e. what we did this year with LT and DL offers.

It is one thing when it comes to skill guys. But, it's a whole other thing when your talking about DL and OL. They are much harder to project.

I thought the biggest slap in the face last year was when the BC coach asked if any of his players were recruited by ND, and no one raised their hand. Yeah, the same BC team that just flat-out embarressed ND on the field.

I was thinking today about the chances of getting NO ONE on NSD. The first thing that came to mind was that people would be livid and bash our efforts and abilities to close. Remember that we didn't have any chance with some of these guys until recently and we're very close to pulling some serious talent late in the game. I hope for the best, and I feel like we will get some good news Wed, but by no means should we criticize the coaching staff's effort this past month. GO IRISH

Pretty sure we'll still be turning in a top 25 class come Wednesday. I'd call that good news considering a second consecutive decidedly not-top 25 season.

A small class (with 2 kickers and a long snapper) with fewer kids then many teams that will be "ranked" ahead of us.

Certainly can't knock the staff's effort on these last few kids. They've shown they can recruit, now let's see if they can put an elite product on the field

Hawaii- i too would like to see the amount of offers increase. But this year the staff had put out 80 or 81 offers, only a few of which were in the last 1or 2 months. FWIW

It would be interesting to compare our 'close rate', those offered who accept versus the total number of offers, to other schools. I have the impression that we've done pretty well in this category, especially since we've gone after a lot more top flight kids that in the prior regime. Last year I think we landed 3 out of 4 of the first 4 offers that went out with the exception being the Texas WR who had eyes for Home State U from the beginning.

With a few exceptions, we have built out our roster tremendously over the past few years. Time will tell if we can truly develop these kids, but from a recruiting standpoint you have to be proud of what we've done overall.

I think our NSD luck will change this year where we get 1 or 2 of the remaining kids. Just a guy feeling.

I disagree. This class is filler for the 20th time. There is no disappointment, because there shouldn't have been too many expectations in the first place. We are doing just fine the way we are doing it. Wednesday is icing on the cake of anything we already have, because we are saving a lot for next class.

Come on, let's face reality. This 2009 class is the class coming of the 2-9 season. If we end up top 25 than I am satisfied. We added some good talent and solidified special teams for years to come--hopefully.

We can't expect a top 5 class following a 3-9 season. It doesn't happen.

Sorry to be a pessimist...but I see us getting shut out...its not the end of the world, next year's season and class literally though becomes do or die...we come out of the gait slowly, and the season, Charlie, and the recruiting class will crumble...

PS:What I want to know is what does the poodle possibly tell recruits and their families when they ask about the Bush investigation. Does he gaurantee nothing will happen and if so how does he do that with a straight face?

Come on T'eo and Moore, do the right thing, the 40 year thing and come to ND.

Fact is, if we don't have a large measure of disappointment on Wednesday, that just means that Charlie isn't working hard enough.

The fact that we have a smidgen of hope with these guys heading into the signing day, tells me Charlie is doing a great job.

He is up against teams with great weather, who didn't endure the last 2 seasons we did, teams who don't give a crap about academics (ball room dancing anyone?), and constant bashing in the media...Charlie despite all the odds has given us a chance with some of the guys at the end...not bad if you ask me.

Agreed - I remember a comment about Starling last summer not to get our hopes up because he was in FSU country and we're still in it with him. A lot of people wrote us off for Te'o from the start, but we're still in it for him. If we stopped working on Moore (who knows what happens with him), we would not have come up after he decommitted from SC. And the fact that we're running after Thigpen after he decommitted shows a lot of tenacity.
