After looking at David Bruton's scouting report, I saw that they keep track of most (if not all) of college football players, so I looked up Jimmy's just for fun...

here's the 2nd rated QB out of 122 QB's in the 2011 Class. Second only to Sam Bradford who will most likely enter the 2010 draft.

I thought this was a pretty good read:

"University of Hawaii linebacker Adam Leonard calls Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen the best quarterback he has seen on film this season. Considering who the Warriors tussled with in early September, compliments don't get any bigger than that.

Hawaii opened its season with a game at Florida, quarterbacked by defending Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow. The junior recently finished third in this year's voting, but received more first-place votes than winner Sam Bradford of Oklahoma. "Tebow's a physical specimen," Leonard said. "He's got a strong arm. He runs the ball well and he plays great in that system.

But I would say as far as a pure quarterback — decision-making, looking off safeties and the arm strength — (Clausen) is unbelievable. "He's the only quarterback we've seen on film who from the opposite hash he can throw all the way to the other sideline. It jumps off the film when he throws."

Jimmy looks off safeties? Since when?

since this.....lol

they mention specifically how he looked off the safety.

I actually see Clausen looking off safeties when he throws the long bombs...what he doesn't look off are the LB's and CB's on the short routes, sch as slants...IMO, THAT's when he tends to lock in on his receivers. But, in the Hawaii game, I didn't see him locking onto anyone, which is great

Wait...Jimmy throws slants?

Good point. The 3rd year is usually where you see the decision-making dramatically improve in pro-style offenses at almost every position.

I expected to see a dramtic turn-around next year no matter what. Both our offense and defense are super complicated and it wasn't shocking that they were so inconsistent this year.

Hesitation leads to a lack of confidence, which is all our guys really need.

yea, I'm pretty excited about next year and beyond

Even Haywood explained why we were so inconsistent, especially in the second half of the year. He said the coaches dialed up the complexity of the offense and gave the players a bit too much to digest...hopefully it all sinks in this coming off season!

It's a good read and quite a compliment to a Sophmore QB. See him hug Weis in the Bowl?

I hope whoever drafts Jimmy gives him a chance to sit a year or two before starting (not likely in todays NFL)

He doesn't pick up things as fast as Brady and loses confidence quickly when things aren't going his way.

He's got certain skills far beyond what Quinn is capable of, but needs an increase in maturity to become the quarterback that he is capable of becoming.

to be fair to jimmy-- its hard to look off defenders if your afraid to take that second beat to do it--that occurs because the last time you tried and looked back at your guy it was the defensive end in your face--- a QB needs TIME to look em off-- that why on the deep routes with a deep drop he has more confidence to take the time!--- next year more time and a more developed QB-- look for something more like 32 TDs--- 11 picks

wait...JC's good? but everybody here and on every board and espn and...well, the whole world, says he's over-rated, sucks, etc. i'm sooo confused!!

Jimmy looks off safeties? Since when?

That's the first thing I noticed too when I read this.

Jimmy has a cannon, Look at duke game last year and that drill shot he put on David Grimes (arm not full healed). Brady Quinn his Sophmore year, yeah then his junior year, watch out. Jimmy has better weapons with better speed.

I believe Jimmy's accuracy overshadows his arm strength. In other words, everytime Jimmy throws a bomb and perfectly places it only where his receiver can catch it, all everyone talks about is how perfectly the ball was thrown and forgets he just threw that rock 40+ yards. JMHO. :D

I have said this before, and I am sure I will say it a few more times over the next couple of seasons....

From a "football fan" and not from an "ND Fan" prospective I honestly think Jimmy's throwing abilities are the best I have seen in one guy. He does have to improve on some of the finer points in playing QB.....but I cannot remember a person that had the arm, touch, and accuracy he does.

i totally agree. he throws the deep ball better then any QB i've seen latley and he throws it down field with ease it seems. BQs deep balls looked more like punts, the WR always had to stop and wait for the ball.

Seriously, I don't know any other D1-A QB that can throw a 40-50+ yard bomb with as much accuracy (not to mention a perfect spiral) as Clausen can. Not even Sam Bradford has better accuracy...

BUT, what Bradford does have is pocket presence, good decision making, isn't afraid to get hit, and doesn't stare down receivers

Don't even get me started on Tim Tebow as a QB..great PLAYER and competitor, but not that good of a QB, maybe very slightly above average.
