Just read in the paper that Dan Mullen, Urban Meyer's long time Offensive Coordinator of 14 years, accepted the job to be Mississippi State's new head coach. I believe Mullen was known to be the one to develop UM's offense to be what it is today. If UM is really great, they shouldn't skip a beat. But you have to wonder how losing such a valuable long-time colleague will affect UM and his program....

Probably about as much as bellicheck losing weis and crennel

Urban Meyer is a winner. He wins: period. He will continue to win and he will continue to be ridiculed for doing the same things during recruiting as every other coach because why...he wins.

I would welcome him back with open arms at any point in time. He turned down ND and the money at the time because it wasn't right. It wasn't.

People are only so resentful because of his success at Florida, but could he have had that success right away at ND? No, probably not. Then we would have fired him and the guy who may coach us in the future to many wins would have been canned before his time.

Notre Dame may still be his dream job and he may have understood that his system wouldn't work with the personnel in place. He probably knew there was no margin for error at the time and it wouldn't work. He's still a young guy and probably had that in mind too.

Fact is, as much as he's struggled, Weis was delivered to us because it was right for the time. The offense had pro-style players. He brought confidence back to ND after we had two straight passive coaches. He brought athletes back into the cupboard. Whether or not he will succeed further idk. The bottom line is, even if Weis fails, we still owe him a great deal. Or, maybe not owe him but shouldn't ridicule him. The program was in such bad shape it may have needed a martyr.

We are in better shape today than we were four years ago. There is no denying that.

Ouccchhh! Belichik seems to have benn the brains behind all that success.

Urban said once again today on a radio show that ND is still his dream job. I read this on the Rivals MB..

No thanks Meyer, ND has their dream coach already

It's bait... dont take the cheese...

Better shape as in record? Because there is plenty of denying that. I'm glad Ty isn't here, but CW is nothing special. Right now we have a ton of talent on campus that doesn't know how to win. Eerily remeniscent of Ty's last year isn't it? This is a guy that has put together the 2 absolute worst consecutive years in ND history and managed to lose to Navy for the first time in 43 years. Ty never lost to Navy. Gerry Faust never lost to Navy.

Look, CW has chiselled his own pedestal away to nothing more than a pile of rubble at this point. Don't break your back trying to justify the fact that he has absolutely failed the past two seasons.

Que the ridiculous argument about his team 4 years ago....

It's bait... dont take the cheese...

Was this directed at me???? Did you read the thread on the MB?? If so, you already heard this.. Everybody else listen for yourself, check about 6:30 into it.

I have a feeling that if Charlie doesnt do well next year ND is going to go hard after Meyer. It doesnt hurt recruiting either for them to hear that Meyer still loves ND. It reasures them that there might a proven winner waiting for the job. So the bottom line is it actually helps ND every time Meyer makes this statement whether he's telling the truth or not. It also wouldnt hurt to go spread this all over the Gator boards. Let em squirm a bit.

I'm not. There's a lot more talent here now than when Ty left though. That's my point. ND is at least relevant in recruiting again. Ty had 1 good class, brady's class, when he was here.

I'm not making a case for weis. I thought he deserved to be fired but wasn't depressed about him coming back to try a 5th. If he doesn't win atleast 9 next year he needs to go though and with out schedule should win 10.

Im not doubting that he said it, i was commenting that he is baiting ND into showing interest. He is going to want a massive contract after this year from UF or someone else soon. He's just trying to demonstrate why UF should pay to keep him.

here is my take fan the breeze, it will get me more money to GET ME OR EVEN BETTER KEEP ME, THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT WHEN TEBOW BOLTS TO THE NFL AND HIS OFF CORD HE RUNS THE TEAM NOT UM , HE IS LOOKING AT A FEW DOWN YEARS, HE HAS A GOOG QB AND IS RIDING HIM HARD , SEE WHAT HAPPENS IF TEBOW BOLTS , THE UM MIGHT GET HIS DREAM JOB IN YEAR 10 , BUT IT WILL COST BIG TIME , I SAY WE HAVE A VERY GOOD COACH NOW JUST NEEDS TO SHED A FEW ASSISTANTS , AND GET MOTIVATED AND FET HIS KNEE FIXED, HE WILL GET AT LEAST 9 OR 10 WINS NEXT YEAR OR HE WILL BE GONE . THIS DREAM JOB CRAP IS JUST FANNING THE BREEZE TO GET A CONTRACT UPGRADE, WITH HIS KIND OF $$$, HE COULD RETIRE AND BE A GUEST ON LETTERMAN SHOW . KEEP CHARLIE . GO IRISH

Rick you would really rather keep Charlie than take Urban? ND went after Urban in the eleventh hour - Urban did two things kept his word to Florida and chose a job that he thought would allow him to be a better dad can't fault him on either of those. I don't think their is any rational person in the world at this point who could say Charlie is a better coach than Urban.

whoa.... he took it b/c it would be easier to succeed there too. i dont know the man, but i remember interviews where the talked about a conversation with his father about where would he succeed first among other considerations. this was right after he went to UF. there was none of this family consideration or local recruiting stuff.

Yeah but how many guys are going to take a job and then say, "my wife made me do it." That wouldn't have been good for him in any sense and would have made it seem like he didn't want to go to Florida. Also, that kind of stuff is stuff you might wanna keep in the family and not spread around the media right away.
