I don't know if anyone else has been watching the bowl selection show on ESPN but they just had a blatant ND bashing session. Amidst all the laughing and Lou wanting to cry, it ended with Reese Davis saying to Mark May "you don't even have to do your dirty work."

It started with laughing over every state voting that we would lose this bowl game. (Well yeah, we have more anti-fans than anyone)

Corso pulled out, "look how far the beloved ND program has fallen. You're mentioning them with Boise and ECU."

Then when Lou said "They've won for so long so what if they've fallen a little bit."

May said, "A LITTLE BIT AHAHAHAHA!"

Then Corso, being an idiot as usual. Had to turn to Herbie for some actual facts. To Herbie's credit he remained out of it to that point but said ND's been 7-5 for the last 12 years.

I wish I got this on tape.

Yeah, it's definitely time to level the playing field at Notre Dame. Just make sure we aren't bringing in murderers and rapists! I know Larry bird said he hired a retired FBI guy to do background checks on players and their groupies to make sure that they didn't get any more trash.

who cares what these yokels say about notre dame , if they were 12-0 they would fimd some sort of dig, i say the hel- with them . people who criticize the other folks are just plain ignorant, to the facts. no one team can be up all the time .

Yea, I saw it just now. Lou saying he feels like he's sitting between 2 thieves (whatever that meant).

Definitely a bashing session. When we start winning again, I don't want that fraud Corso attempting to step one freaking foot on our band wagon (Like he always does with winning teams)!!

Yeah, next year he'll be going "If they don't stuff the box, Armando Allen will be chic-chic-chic-chic-chic-BOOM!" hahahah.

Well, unfortunately nothing they said wasn't true. It's the reality of where our program is right now. Face it, ND is a joke in it's current state. An easy way to not be a punch line on TV is to field a good team and win. We can't seem to do that. Oh...and I don't give a crap about 05' and 06' at this point.

domenanddomer. keep the faith friend the irish will return to the bcs status next year, if that dosen't happen you and i can take over the coaching and we will get some respect back for the university . charlie must get things changed pretty quick , . go irish

It kills me when people get so mad about the media and others when they "bash" ND. They act like they are being unjustly vilified or something. Hilarious!

The fact of the matter is that ND is a laughing stock in CFB and has been for quite some time. I know that every program can't be on top every year, and that there will occasionally be a down year every now and then. But we are talking about a down 12-14 years now! Just like Herbstreet said, we have been 7-5 for the last 12 years. That is pathetic and we are absolutely deserving of any and all of the "bashing" that takes place.

Here is the best way that I can describe the ND football program, the administration, and the powers that be that control its destiny: "Stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting a different result." This sums it up for me...

Splitting hairs here but that definition is not for stupidity, it's for insanity. Point taken, nonetheless.

That's just it Rick...ND closes the season on a 2-5 skid against teams that they should beat (sans SC) and that just doesn't instill faith. At this point, we're speculating on blind faith at best and that just doesn't cut the mustard in my book. I look at facts as they are, not what I want them to be. The fact is that every year it's "next year we're going to be great and watch out in 20..(insert year of your choice here). "

People need to get a grip on the fact that 05 and 06 don't make a dang bit of difference in 07 and 08. This coaching staff is out of excuses in my book and this team better be lights out in 09 or we WILL be seeing someone else occupy that cushy office in the Gug. It's time to hold people accountable, players included because the job plain and simply is NOT getting done. The fact of the matter is that this team had the talent to win 9-10 games this year and make serious progress yet we sit at 6-6 with absolutely NOBODY feeling good about the direction of this football program. So no, I don't have faith because the facts don't support that faith.

Why has ND been a laughing stock? What qualifies them as stupid other than weis' deal? The davie hire was for continuity. The ty firing was justified.

It's funny to me that a program that develops good young men is crapped on and considered a laughing stock but SC has had an exhausting list of problems with it's athletes and graduates just over half of them and they're immaculate.

I give credit to TorontoCroatian for this. Here is what no one seems to talk about:

Oh yeah, but we're a laughing stock.

Well... yea... the coach's job is to win football games and bring in money, is it not? Everyone always talks about how important it is to develop the kids into good young men as well as football players, but how many people actually mean it? Let's be honest, most ND fans would rather have kids that get worse grades but win 3 more games a year. I'm not saying that mentality is what we should strive for, but I think it's accurate. Football coaches are there to win football games, which brings in extra revenue for the school. Everything else is secondary.

Agreed. It's just ridiculous to call ND a laughing stock just because they were once great and aren't right now. No body is rolling over laughing at Idaho right now and ND is still doing a lot of good things. As far as the coach is concerned, you're right. And he better get it together next year or he might be sitting between Lou and May.

Did people laugh at the Yankees when they didn't make the playoffs? Yes, they did.

Why would you even consider ND on the same plain as Idaho? Was Idaho ever great? Do the Yankees consider themselves on the same level as AAA Iowa? Absolutely not.

If you want Notre Dame to be considered one of the premier programs in the nation, which historically they are, you have to be willing to accept the criticism and lets be honest, they are a laughing stock due mostly to ND's own arrogance. You can't talk about how great ND is without accepting the reality of being a prestigious program.

Exactly my previous point! You have to look at where this program has been over the last 80 years in CFB and look at where it is now. ND is a laughing stock and they have no one else to blame for the demise but themselves. I have said it before and I will say it again--ND needs to make a choice--do they want to be an elite football program in today's day and age of CFB, or do they want to be an elite academic institution. You just can't consistently do both in today's CFB environment! You might be able to have one or two good years out of every 10-12, but you just can't compete at the elite level year in and year out trying to do both. No other school does it in football. It is simply too difficult. You can get away with it in other sports such as basketball because you only need one or two elite players to elevate your program. But football requires several elite athletes at several positions consistently year in and year out. The pool that ND is allowed to choose from is just smaller than the other schools. Then you add to that the fact that ND is in a cold weather state with little in-state talent along with a myriad of other challenges it makes it extremely difficult to compete.

Sorry but this is so wrong.

Top graduation rates and records of division 1 schools:

1.) Notre Dame 95% 6-6

2.) Nebraska 88 8-4

3.) Florida 80 12-1

4.) TCU 78 10-2

5.) Clemson 77 7-5

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2605065

I realize Nebraska isn't elite right now but they're getting there. They were 5-3 in the big 12. Florida is probably going to win the title again. TCU won 10 and Clemson is a good program who played well down the stretch.

If the pool is smaller we're still getting the talent; check the recruiting rankings. Teams don't offer every big prospect either. You set up a board of guys. Carroll probably recruits dumbasses 'cause he can't compete with ND and Florida.

With the players we are recruiting the argument is garbage. It's up to the coaches to develop the talent. Good academics is a good recruiting tool. The best athletes aren't all "thugs." Tebow can't give an interview without saying "God bless you" 4 times. So, idk what you're talking about.

While I agree with the premise that academic schools can be successful in football, I don't think some of the schools you listed are in the same hemisphere as ND. The graduation rates in universities haven't gotten better over the years, they just change the definition of "graduation rate"
