Personnel matters from Weis: Running back Robert Hughes will play in the bowl game but will be suspended from the first half of the Nevada season opener in 2009. Running back Armando Allen will be back for the bowl. Wide receiver Michael Floyd and linebacker Brian Smith will be examined Saturday and might be back next weekend. Cornerback Terrail Lambert and defensive end/linebacker Darius Fleming are both OK.

Mike Anello has a cracked bone in his leg and will be out two to four months.

I knew about all the injuries, but does anyone know what Robert Hughes did? Is it for the fiighting in the USC game?

One of my favorite ND quotes (most of mine are from Lou Holtz, of which I wasn't fortunate enough to watch)

.. from Joe Theisman .. "If you could find a way to bottle the Notre Dame spirit, you could light up the universe."

Yeah, I don't think Hughes should have been suspended. The defender for USC, whatever that freshman's name was, was being a little b****. If I was Hughes, I probably would have ripped the guys helmet off and broke his face. It was self-defense.

The USC player got the same punishment. Just throwing it out.

I agree Hughes should not have been suspended. It seems like it was some sort of NCAA rule or something. There was something in the press conference about CW thinking he was going to be suspended for the bowl game but when he "checked with the Big East" they said the suspension could be served next regular season game. Sorry I don't remember where I read this.

Yeah, it's cool. If it wasn't the NCAA I'm sure it was done to appease them. I hate the NCAA.

NCAA: "Your program that provides the income for scholarships for half of Division 1 football is not satisfying our over controlling, paranoid ego."

ND: "Oh please NCAA! Don't take any of our scholarships away! We just wasted one on a no-star, long snapper! Don't punish us please!"

It's pretty hard to lock up on a dude's facemask and take him down like that and not get some kind of punishment.

Unless your coach looks like a poodle of course.

Now, how awesome was it to see Hughes absolutely PUNK that dude?!!

He manhandled his ass and made him kneel right before him.

That was the highlight of the game for me in a highlightless game.

I'm still an advocate for face breaking though.

I think the reason that there has to be some kind of punishment for Hughes is because he was ejected from the game. It's probably either NCAA or University policy that if you are ejected then there must be some kind of punishment. I was however thrilled to see Hughes take the kid to the ground after that cheap shot that he gave him on the previous play. That's the definition of "nasty". Although his emotion was slightly misguided, that's the kind of attitude this team needs if they are ever going to compete at a national level.
