MF was on Rivals Radio today (may have been a replay from yesterday's show). He was asked about how the decision to keep Weis is effecting recruiting if at all. He responded that he is hearing that competing schools are taking the angle that Charlie is a lame duck coach and why would Johnny Fivestar want to walk into a situation where the coaching staff is in question and may be gone at the end of next year.

He said there is this sense that Charlie "has one more year" to get it done and that while he doesn't foresee it effecting this year's class much he warned that next year it will pose a problem with top recruits if the coaching staff 1) continues to underachieve on the field and 2) is therefore in jeopardy of being ousted.

I'm not a Mike Frank fan just reporting what I heard this morning. Whether or not Frank's analysis is correct, I always thought the "keep Weis in order to keep the recruits" argument was full of holes.

MF's opinion you just summarized was the most obvious thing I've ever heard.

I guess the good news is that we have the inside track on two of the top 10 recruits in the country for next season..

Anthony Barr, Ath at Loyola (Torrance, CA)...Brook's family

Brandon Linder, OL...St. Thomas Aquinas prospect, we have a nice pipeline into that program...

Mike Frank can go spit...

Like everything else we have to worry about, most will go away with winning. Winning cures (almost)all.

I understand some ppl dont like Mike Frank, but what he's saying is true. Like someone said previously, it's the most obvious thing I've seen on this board lol. As for the CW staying keeping the recruits, a blind monkey could win 8 games next yr with that schedule and this much talent. Hence the reason we're going to keep this class & get a good class next year with CW. The one thing is that a lot of the top recruits are Midwest Catholic Boys which usually ends up good for the Irish. A lot of these kids will come to ND for the prestige, tradition, and academics (all things CW has nothing to do with), so I see a good class coming in no matter who the coach is.

If CW continues to coach like he has been these past two years, you can kiss that great 2010 recruiting class good-bye.

as I said in my previous post, I dont think the '10 class has anything to do with CW. It might not end up as good as it couldve been if CW doesnt win, but we'll still get a top 15 class with the talent that's already interested in ND. Midwest Catholic boys like I said end up good for ND.

I disagree. If a 5 star recruit is making a major decision on where he is going to go to get the best NFL training and there is uncertainty in the coaching ranks at ND he's not going to go to ND just because it's a Catholic institution or to get the ND degree. He's going to want to know who the coach is and what kind of system will be run.

I think this is a bigger deal than people make it out to be.

this really isnt worthy of a mike frank thread--its just common sense-- will charlies HOTSEAT status slow next years recruiting----- DA----------if we come out of the gate and win 3----- if we show a new offense behind a couple new coaches--- common sense also tells you everything will fall back into place quickly!

I agree with hawaii, if we have a new set of coaches, and get out of the gate fast and prove to people we can win, recruiting will take care of itself

agreed, 5 star recruits, but we dont get many 5 star guys anyway. I'm talking bout the solid 4 star guys who think college is important, not just a stepping stone to the NFL.

That is why we need to be realistic about the future of the program. We are getting the guys who are Student/Athletes first. That gives you 6 wins a year. If that is the way it is, than so be it. Let's not obscure the reality that is ND football.

Next years "The Shirt" logo:

Come to Notre Dame, we are 6-6, but you will get a great education

I just read that Mike Frank said if we go 9-3 next year we will have won more games than we've lost. (sarcasm)

He is truly insightful.

Seems like a nice guy to talk to, but the man is frankly a dud when it comes to recruiting predictions. Even on the day they verballed and such, Omar Hunter to Michigan (picked ND, then bailed obviously lol), ND in the cat bird's seat with Lalota, G-Rob should pick ND too (even though we all knew Walker took his spot). There are lots of other instances too I'm forgetting where he's chunked it, but it happens quite a bit. With ALL of these guys, I've heard the real story coming through from other sources, well in advance of him STILL clinging to his crappy sources. And frankly, the guy getting paid to get info like that should be more accurate than he is.

Lemme just say this. Between the time he was telling us, "ND could have a monster haul", and "Now things are looking dim, lotta nay sayers out there", how many kids decommitted from us? How many pledged? Zero. He's throwing random barbs out in the wind, and with no evidence to substantiate him either way, we're supposed to take a sketchy at best prognosticator's word for it?

Maybe if he was put in one region, kind of like how coaching staffs divide the country up by geographic locations, he'd have more reliable sources. He's probably stretched too thin, between being the front man on camera for rivals and trying to get the inside scoop. I dunno, I'm just trying to figure out why he keeps getting crappy leads, but I don't put much stock in him. I'd pay attention to any of the national guys (i.e. Crabtree) from rivals before him.

I side with you on that issue Calves. :)
