Ital-Irish
This post has a double meaning, because I really am tired. But there's more to it. First, let me explain that I completely respect everyone on this board. Every time something comes up with ND football, I come here. First. I greatly respect Wave, who I've argued with it seems on every post in the general discussion forum today. We have different opinions on things, but we both have strong opinions, which is awesome. I greatly respect people like Sir John and IrishRick who have tremendous loyalty to the university and whoever is leading the team. And I think, even though it may be quirky sometimes, they hold us all to a higher standard. But I'm tired. I'm tired of telling my younger brother (who was born at the absolute worst time for an Irish fan, July of 1994) that good things could be coming. I'm tired of being more excited in February and September than I am in November, December and January. I'm tired of Duval Kamara coming in motion on a 4th and 1 and James Aldridge running into a wall of blue/white shirts. I'm tired of teams setting records against Notre Dame. I'm tired of watching Jimmy Clausen have to avoid three people just to throw a slant. I'm tired of seeing Charlie Weis' face on the sidelines showing us nothing more than confusion. I'm tired of not pounding teams that haven't even sent a letter to a 5-star recruit in the past four years. I'm tired of watching an offense go 3-and-out and trot off the field like its normal. I'm tired of saying I think Notre Dame could be a Top 25 team and being laughed at. I'm tired of losing to Michigan State. I'm tired of getting blown out by the only serious national title contender on our schedule, USC. I'm tired of not being able to close out a game because there's no running game. I'm tired of not being an elite team. There are some serious problems at Notre Dame right now, and it has nothing to do with admissions or a lack of talent. I agree that the players are young. But they were 8-4/9-3 young this year, not 6-6 young. Next year, Charlie is apparently the guy that is supposed to wake me up. But I will tell you this, anything less than a BCS berth with that schedule, this talent and Notre Dame's name is a failure. And don't tell me my expectations are too high, because I'm tired of being told that as Notre Dame fan I can't expect excellence.

If pre-season national title contenders like LSU could go 7-5, Georgia 9-3, Clemson 7-5, Auburn 5-7, and West Virginia 7-4, what makes ND the exception? All those teams are talented enough to go 12-0 or 11-1, all of them have proven hot-shot head coaches (except Clemson and WVU), but failed for some reason. All five of those teams should have at the minimum be in a BCS bowl, but are far and away from one. And ND hasn't nearly had the run of recent success the above mentioned teams have had. Why expect ND to be great after a 3-9 season? BCS bowl after a 6-6 season? Do not be surprised for another let down.

Heck, we don't even play in the Big East. We have a SOFT schedule. They don't. If we lost 4 or 5 tough games to tough teams, thats one thing...But Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, nor WVU lost to a team like Syracuse at home. None of them should have lost to a team like San Diego St. at home. None of these teams blew double digit leads like us. None of them failed to get a first down in 3 quarters. None of them ran out of the tunnel before games like us, with absolutely no emotion or fire. None of them have run for less yards. None of them got worse than us. None of them lost on Senior Day like us. None of them lost to Navy the year before. You watch any of those teams play, at least they look like they want to be there....like they want to hurt somebody. We play like we don't want to get hurt. tdnd81
I'm just tired of ND being a joke Also tired of defending ND and trying to tell people how we will be better next year. I'm really tired of seeing all of the "fire Weis" threads and negativity on this board.. I understand it though, i just don't post as much when I'm pissed. Weis is here for one more year, and nothing we say can change that. If you are a fan of ND then lets just stick it out and hope we turn it around. I said hope... FL, Bama, & Georgia were pretty good, but the rest of the conference was average. LSU lost a lot last year and they were only a national title contender before Perilloux got canned. Clemson, Auburn, & WVU were not nat'l title contenders. Georgia was, and 9-3's a pretty good record. 2 of their losses were to top 5 teams. The 3rd was a rivalry loss to GT by 3 pts. Guest SirJohn
First off thank you for the kind word thrown my way. We need some changes, not Weis. I do not cAre for those occasional TV side line shots. I see still pix of him screaming at someone.. Remember he has a busted up knee and most likely is on pin killers. But I will be here for ND. mudskipper
I used to enjoy having friends over when ND was playing, we'd have beers and enjoy a good game. That's becoming a distant memory. SpecialFNK
i dont think there were higher expectations than there should have been. this is NOTRE DAME, there should be high expectations. this is a school that people should talk about in the pre season as possible national title contenders, or atleast possibly playing in a BCS bowl ..every season! with the schedule next season there should be significant improvements on the team and in the W colum. Yago
When you look at the “average” SEC University and give them NDs schedule, all I see is a 11-1 record. ND played a tough schedule last year, but had they played the same schedule this year, they would have been 3-9 again. Many of the Elite programs over recruit and then send their players to Junior Colleges to develop playing skills. Bring them back as “freshman” with 3 years of experience in their system; what Junior College is ND affiliated with? What Junior Colleges does ND dip into to plug holes in their depth chart, they don’t; ND moves players around and plays them out of position. Not a formula for success, but that’s what Coach Weis has to deal with. ND recruits the best they can get, but the best don’t always pan out, so they ride the pine. In an “elite” program they are cut, they don’t waste scholarships on players that can’t produce. The same holds true for injuries, oh they take care of the injury, but the player is still let go, he can’t produce and there’s no room for the non-productivity. Cruel, but a reality you have to deal with if you desire to be an “elite” program. An “elite” program today borders on being a semi-pro team, does anyone believe ND with its recruits comes close to being a semi-pro team? Proposition 48 was taken away from Coach Holtz, and ND hasn’t been competitive since. Don’t believe me, look at the record. Look at the bowl record when they have to face an “elite” program. If you don’t recruit and play by the rules the “elite” have created and circumvented, you resign yourself to mediocrity. You water down your schedule to gain wins and eventually drop the “elite” programs because you’ll never win. Does that look familiar? A fans “I’m tired” means nothing, NDs administration sets the agenda and the University goals, until they get “tired” or decide change is desirable, expect more of the same. DScottND
I am tired of ND fans accepting being average. I understand no one including myself wants to turn our back on the program, but at what point do we have to hold the university accountable and the only way to do that is through the pocket book. Again my number one wish is for Charlie to solve this next year.
