November 30, 200816 yr I think I'd take Kelly over any of those three. Tuberville's offense may the one offense in the nation that's worse than ours lol. I want a hungry up-and-comer type over a vet...we need energy and a spark more than Xs and Os
November 30, 200816 yr The thing is, Urban Meyer was Brian Kelly 5 years ago. Few knew of him and he turned around a small program into a BCS team and then took the offers when they were pouring in. Why pay mega-bucks for Meyer when we can get the next Urban Meyer in Brian Kelly?

November 30, 200816 yr Mega-bucks we have, a proven winner coaching, not so much. Why do we put up with the revenue whoring AD if not to get the cream of the crop coach? Can't pay the players, wait... We can pay for a winner now, or hire someone on the cheap and pay them IF they succeed later. Getting an up and comer is fine for Cincy. We cant afford another learn on the job experience. Charlie I hope you learned enough, get us 9 wins or better next year. ________ Buy Vapormatic Edited March 4, 201114 yr by jon33dn
November 30, 200816 yr The more I hear about Kelly, the more I likee. The one other guy of interest to me is Gary Patterson of TCU. When your defense plays tougher against OK than Texas does, you've got my attention. Let's see, 25 rushing yards allowed to OK, 71 to Stanford (who averages 200 and got that against SC), sounds like he might know how to coach defense. I have know idea what his situation is though. Clemson is looking at him supposedly. I understand the "let's get a big-time winner" attitude, I'm just not sure we can get someone...especially this year. If we can, great...but I would definitely take a hard look at any of the head coaches at the following winners...Utah #7...Boise State #9...TCU #11...Cincinnati #13...(combined records 44-4) they are all doing a lot better with a lot less than we are. As for waiting one more year for Charlie...The odds are very large that you would just be wasting another year...like 90% plus...if you missed the Faust years...they looked just like this last season...it's not just about the losing it's how we are losing...so if you want to stretch the 2 year streak of worst ever ND football to 3 years then keep on with CW. I'm betting on a coaching change and real soon.
November 30, 200816 yr charlie would not be out recruiting if he was to be fired. If the AD knew a change was coming he would have put the kibosh on CW's trip and be saving those HC travel days. These are a limited commodity and a new coach will need to get out there and put in the face time with current commits and potential new ones. Yes he would! He's not like these other slap-dick non-ND guys who just quit. Charlie cares about the team, so he's going to do whatever he can to help. If part of that is recruiting while a new coach is brought in, he'll do it. ND alums understand this and all of us would do that if we were in the same position. We aren't just some other school. We take care of ourselves.
November 30, 200816 yr No, The AD would have put the kibosh on CW's trip. IF swarbrick had decided on a change, then he would have told weis not to go. that the university needs the days of HC off campus recruiting time.
November 30, 200816 yr I would be excited about a Brian Kelly hire at ND. If Weis comes back, but with a new offensive staff and a new strength/condition coach, I would actually have to coach myself up to being excited for the new football season. With a new head coach comes a new, clean slate for me. I may be saying "here we go again" for the second year in a row with Weis coming back.

We take care of ourselves. I know you're an alum Wave...but business is business. When Ty was fired it was immediate and final. When Lou was fired it was immediate and final. When Faust was fired it was immediate and final. Nobody, including CW, loves this university more than Faust and Lou and both of them were treated unfairly at the end by ND. That's business and the reason that neither of them hold a grudge. This is all starting to point to the fact that CW is not going to get fired.
November 30, 200816 yr I'm for Holtz or Kelly. I think it is hilarious that some of you guys are so ARROGANT. Come on! ND sucks! Sucks! Ball State would put up 50 on us! Brian Kelly is MORE than qualified! Hell, he just took a shit team and took it to Big East Champs in what 2 years? They are going to a good bowl because they are a good team and we are going to a shit bowl because we can sell tickets. I've spoken to a couple of sports marketing guys and they say Meyer and Stoops have both declined the job. I'm not against CW staying one more year but ONLY if the entire offensive side of the ball coaches are terminated. I will say that my row 5 tickets will not be renewed if there are no changes. I'm not making a 6 hour drive every Saturday only to drive home and be pissed an entire week. I'm tired of spending so much money to go to games and all the stuff that goes with it just to see a shitty ass performance every time! It's like buying a new car and having such good feelings about it and then it breaks down EVERY time you take it out. I've been a fan since I was 5 and for the last 35 years I have never seen a Notre Dame team just look so pathetic. Hell Georgia Tech ran for over 400 yards on Georgia yesterday and their back suck ass compared to our guys. That Navy coach that GT hired is a great coach! Let's give an up and comer a shot. If not, then let's bring in Spurrier. He is pass happy and we have the weapons. Give him the ability for 2-3 years to bring in some JUCO players to plug the holes and we should be set!

Cincy was not a shit team. Marc D'antonio was there before, you think if he was building a shit team that Mich St wouldve offered him? Get a clue. Some of you guys need to do some research before making comments. CMU (Where Kelly was before Cincy) was a shit team when he started and he turned them around in 2 years. Cincy had talent esp on defense. Kelly did however, make a team drubbed with injuries (3 QBs went down I believe), and make them the Big East champs THIS YEAR.
November 30, 200816 yr warbick contacted Lou he would come back and help the Irish recover. He has been subliminally lobbying for the job on ESPN if you listen to him carefully. He keepos giving all the reasons ND can win and would in the right situation meaning right coach. He was very supportive of Charlie untill recently. He is not taking shots at Charlie but he has been giveing all the resons why ND can win without saying I could get them back there off of the foundation that has been rebuilt. Watch out it could happen.

November 30, 200816 yr Senor Davis.... Ive been saying it, it's a very logical match if we make a change.
November 30, 200816 yr Author The fire is getting hotter and the smoke is getting thicker...Something is up and I hope they keep CW around to recruit the great players...

Ziggy maybe I watched a different Cincinnati team than you did. I've been to games there have you???? Check yourself.
November 30, 200816 yr 1 caveat to sources: Be careful. Remember the Meyer fiasco. Most of the "info" wasn't info. You learned the real story on the back end. I did have a source that told me Meyer wasn't coming about 48 hours before it became known, but I still didn't trust that source. He was right, unfortunately.
November 30, 200816 yr As far as business being business, that isn't the case here. You can't compare Faust and Holtz. Those were different administrations and different coaches. I think Charlie is in the know. He knows what's going on, and I guarantee he has agree to keep helping out.
November 30, 200816 yr The fire is getting hotter and the smoke is getting thicker...Something is up and I hope they keep CW around to recruit the great players... Charlie's ego, although no doubt bruised lately, would never allow him to stay on to be the yes man to Brian Kelly, or whomever, after he had been the big dog. I just don't believe that for a second. With this contract buyout, he doesn't need to eat someone else's crap, and despite the reported 'love of ND' that he no doubt has, he will not stay. Quite frankly, if I am the new coach, I don't want him there. Think about it. Do you really want the former 'ruler' hanging around after he's deposed? I would want him gone.
