I know that there has been a ton of discussion lately about the potential termination of Charlie Weis, and I would be remiss to say that some of it isn't merited. However, I think that I few things need to be taken into consideration (mind you, I am just playing devil's advocate):

1. Our team lacks senior leadership. Our senior class was one of Charlie's first classes, if not his first, and as we all know, it's not exactly loaded with talent like some of the subsequent classes.

I honestly believe that this is why we cannot finish football games. There is absolutely no way that we should have lost to Syracuse, Pittsburgh, or North Carolina. Add 3 to the win column, take three from the loss,.. now how do you feel about the season? We need solid seniors to provide the "killer instinct".

2. This is Charlie's first head coaching job. Not an excuse.. just something to consider. Maybe he shouldn't have been hired in the first place.

3. Our defense isn't nearly as bad as they are made out to be.. seriously. Giving up 24 to Syracuse may look horrible (and it kind of is), but you have to consider the fact that the offense fell in love with 3 and outs that game. Anyone who has played football knows how essential it is for the offense to stay on the field for a little bit to give the defense a rest.

4. The expectations at Notre Dame are astronomical. I want ND to be the best every single season, but programs experience mediocrity from time to time (e.g. USC in the 90s). ND will be back.. and I honestly feel that that day could be very soon.

No matter what, I will still be an Irish fan. It's hard sometimes, and I'm sure that tonight's game will be another low-light in the volumes of Notre Dame lore, but all things considered, Notre Dame is the greatest place in the universe for football.

Go Irish!

Now please feel free to fillet my opinions.. I will take no offense, lol.

Grason............your missing the main point. I've been a fan for a long time, & I wouldn't care if they were 0-11, if they just played with some heart & fire! You don't have to be a senior to play that way! I'm also willing to bet that I'm not alone in my feelings!

I'm sure I am way off base, but I'd love to see a late hit or two if our boys were pissed or frustrated during the game, a little bit of emotion, a little bit of the NASTY Charlie spoke of .. heck, lets deliver all we have this game! Let's leave it on the field already!

The other thing I don't see is progression or improvement. Our offense has gotten worse as the season has gone along.

Now you're talkin'. I want to see a fight!

Well Put forwards Grason

senior leadership?? i want you to look at floridas two deep and tell me how much senior leadership there is. i'm not here to bust your balls, but charlie is a lousy college gameday coach. he is a great guy, relentless recruiter and obviously a super pro coach. but he doesn't know crap about how to teach a high school kid the fundamentals required for playing at the collegiate level. he has been handed superstars out of college who have already been molded for the pros. he hands them a thick playbook and says have at it. these high school kids have no clue how to play their respective positions when they arrive. charlie can't deliver the goods and he has surrounded himself with a bastion of mediocrity to boot. i love notre dame and i like charlie as a person, but he is struggling big time..............

A couple key assistants need to be replaced for sure

.... Holla!

My honest take at this point is simply this...

Charlie should take the money and go. He is not a bad person, not at all. But as it was alluded to by schell, he is just not a game day coach. Crap, yet another Ty Willingham comparison.

It is best for all concerned for Charlie to go.

This. Rip the bandaid off and spare the misery.

Understood. Will be my next move.

Unfortunately, Charlie forgot how to teach kids... he did teach HS... but maybe kids have changed ... or are different from Jersey kids.

You don't need to be a senior to be a leader

Face it friends we haven't had a head coach since Lou.

Davie, Willingham, and now Weis. More like the 3 stooges. Why can't we get that coach that has that special something to bring Notre Dame football back to what it once was?

A Head Coach has to sincerely believe in himself...first. I would follow someone who believed in what his purpose stands for...to the gates of hell. Really I would.

Secondly his team has to buy into whats he's selling. The hell with the rah rah stuff. That goes only so far...and only when its called for.

Some of these kids want to be prepared for the next level. They already have the skills, they need to be groomed at this point.

Hard to follow someone who's being asked to step down or fired. After a point, it takes its toll on the players.

Bingo! My thoughts exactly! He just can't develop talent and he surely can't motivate college kids. He needs to go, but my only concern is who we can get at this point.

Bob Davie looks like a God compared to Weis now. IIRC, Davie beat USC every year as HC.

No he didn't. I remember him losing a game to John Robinson 10-0. I think it was 1998.

I am too drunk to look up the stats, but I believe you. 10-0 sounds pretty at this point. Point is, this program has made no progress in 10 years.
