I received an EM from one of our members concerned how many here have turned on Charlie so quickly. He and I back Charlie and as I said there is nothing I can do to change others opinions as it is your right to post them.

We discvussed the assistants and clearly after signing day we should dump some. I pointed out JoePa really does not run his team. He is surrounded by some really great assistant coaches who do the necessary needed and thankless tasks and work.

Other then that we are both nervous about USC. I hope the score just stays close, which is the first time I ever said that about an ND game.

SJ -- I respect the job you do as a moderator, and I respect the other opinion's of those on this board. In my case, it just differs from those people who want to keep Weis.

I don't think this makes me a bad ND fan, I don't think it's in poor taste, and I don't think it makes me "everything that's wrong with Notre Dame." But I'm tired of hanging on for some sign of hope that frankly hasn't been there in two years (pushing three) with Weis, and it's the exact feeling I got when I knew Davie and Willingham needed to go.

Again, I respect others opinions. But I think if you want to make a statement about negativity, you also have to speak on the people who are pointing fingers and calling others quitters just because they don't think Charlie is the man for the job.

It was a poorly chosen title. As I said Katz, everyone can clearly post how they feel here at DD.

From the EM he sent we both just have differing views, mostly I suppose we are in the minority here now. I posted it to simply show Charlie has some support for another year.

We love you, Sir John. We're just not so sure we love Charlie anymore. ;)

I'm with Sir John and Charlie. The ark isn't even fully built yet, but people want it to float. C'mon! Seriously?!?! Less than 5 plays have put us in this position. Last year, the lack of a competent team put us in the 3-9 position. We could EASILY be 8-3 right now. What would you say then?

Theres no killer instinct in this team at all... no boot to the neck in the 2nd half when we have a lead... 1st halves it seems we play to win, and then play not to lose in the 2nd.

Standford we let up 2 4th QTR TDs to let them back in the game.

UNC we completely melt down and hand them the game in the 2nd half.

PITT we blow our 14 point lead in the 2nd half.

NAVY gets back in the game with back to back onside kicks (and a 2nd team D).

SYRACUSE we allow 2 4th QTR TDs to LOSE to one of the worst teams in CFB this year.

You can dump some blame for those games on Clausen's decision making and our complete lack of a competent kicker... but it looks pretty evident that Charlie has been out-"X'd and O'd" in each game.

Do I think Charlie can still be a great HC, yes... but not with current coaching staff IMO.

Your not a bad guy for stating your opinion. Dont worry if anyone has a problem with it either. Its a free country. I, on the other hand, have my doubts about Charlie. I like him and think he's done wonders for the program. But Im not sure if he's going to take us to the next level. He may have already seen the extent of his potential. Nobody knows at this point either. Dont believe anybody who pretends to know either. One things for sure, last year we were saying give him one more year. Now many of us are saying the same again. Those who want him around will get their wish for at least one more year. The new AD will probably give him one shot under his reign. His seat will be red hot next year though. If it was up to me I sure wouldnt know what decision to make.

As long as CW knows that changes need to be made, I am with him.

I really hope he is not as clueless as TW (where he thinks he is doing a bang up job regardless of results).

If CW is willing to make the changes we have all highlighted over the last several weeks (years in some cases), then I am behind him 100%. If he is unwilling to make the changes (or doesn't know what changes to make), then I will be pushing for a replacement.

In all honesty, I love CW as our coach.....as the man who represents ND. I do not believe we will ever find someone better for ND. I WANT CW to be the coach that puts us back on the map.

I have no problems (well, a few maybe) with CW on the technical side of his coaching..its the mental game (or lack of one) that he has instilled in this team...they are not tough and are always coming out flat. Watch them come out against SC this Saturday...they'll be flat and listless like usual. (Except for the Tates, Anellos and Blantons of the bunch who are self-motivated)

He's a great guy with a big heart...but unless he can magically turn us overnight into that "nasty" team he promised us, I believe the whole ship has to go down fellas

Here's my $.02. I will always support Coach Weis...PERIOD. We go as he goes, plain and simple. I have bought into his being our coach through this period. I believe his staying brings is best for us.

But this doesn't mean that I am happy with the current coaching position. I am Notre Dame's fan first. I am wanting what is best for her to regain national prominence.

Listen, I have five grown children. If one of them is lacking in a certain area, I encourage them to seek out an alternative venue. I don't like/love them any less. But I am sure going to speak my piece for want of a better situation for them. And I want a better situation than what we have right now.

Coach Weis is a good man. But time has shown he may not be the right man for us? I am patient. I'll of course stand by whom ever is at the helm. I am, for better or worse an Irish fan.

And as for turning on him so quickly, our team has deteriorated even quicker.

I just wish the AD would come out and say if Charlie is staying or going. Letting this drag out is terrible for the program in my opinion !!

The ESPN ticker had a bit on there about CW. It said that the Chicago Tribune is reporting that the buyout is not going to be an issue and is not nearly as high as reported. However, it also said that one of their dudes was quoted as saying he had sources that said CW's buyout was the full value of his contract (i.e in the neighborhood of 40 mil).

ND is NOT going to fire Weis. If he doesn't right the ship by next season (read 9+ wins and a whole lot of fundamental improvement) then he will step down on his own.

Step down? No he won't...

Step down? No he won't...

If anyone is going to step down it will be CW. He will not intentionally damage ND. Look at the man, he loves ND more than any person I have ever seen. He honestly believes he is turning our football program around, and that is why he is still running the show. If we suffer a craptastic season next year, and CW sees that he is the problem, he will pack his stuff and walk.

However, I am still expecting an improved ND team next year, and I expect CW to be in charge for a very long time.

Then again, this decision merits a certain amount of time and consideration. A man's career is at stake, along with the college and future careers of more than just a couple student-athletes, the morale of the student body and alumni, and the prestige and reputation of the University.

The criticism leveled at Charlie has a rationale basis. I don't think anyone is being negative for negative's sake.

And, certainly, everyone desperately wants Charlie to succeed. Just as we all wanted Ty.. and every ND coach... to succeed.

But the product on the field and the energy on the sideline are NOT inspiring the belief that things will change drastically.

Perhaps the players and coaches will have an epiphany and find that consistent will, desire and discipline to win... I doubt that it is being coached or taught effectively though.

Believe me, I want Charlie to succeed... but I think a discussion on the future is clearly warranted.
