Urban Meyer to Notre Dame

1. Admit it, your heart kind of jumped a little when you saw this thread.

2. Check out this article by Peter Kerasotis. I know we've all heard the quotes before but he still makes a compelling arguement. http://www.floridatoday.com/article/20081120/COLUMNISTS0306/811200343/1065/SPORTS

I personally believe, given our strong recruiting classes, Charlie needs one more year to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is/isn't the right guy to coach at ND. After said year, Tim Tebow would have exhausted his eligibility....seems like a good plan to me. I can wait a year for a really good shot at a top flight coach.

Yeah there was a thread about this article about a week or so ago.

Incase you wanna check it out:

Not giving you crap for bringing it up again because it's fun to think about. I just don't know if he'd really leave Florida though. Even after Tebow is gone he has Cameron Newton who's going to be a beast: http://florida.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=85064

Also have to think about the spread offense in a cold climate. It can work but he'd have to modify it and include some sets out of the I and what not so the backs are more involved. I would love to see Jimmy in an offense where he can throw the ball around. He does the best when we have to at the end of the half or we're down. He throws more picks out of the 3-5 step drop.

please no more of this urban meyer talk its just ridiculous--- if charlie gets another year or two so be it--- if he quits or is fired so be it--- but please if you think there is a 1% chance of urban meyer coming here-- then you still must be waiting for SANTA CLAUS on christmas night-- its childish-- that ship sailed long ago!!

offer that job to him and it's a public rejection/humiliation the next day. uses it recruiting for years.

not saying it's impossible to lure him over to ND. but i think that him turning us down could never be a polite, private, im not interested to the initial overture. couple that with the reality that he prob wont take the ND job...

again, im for keeping weis this year, but the first guy i'de prob call is Butch Davis.

I'll take him. He's passionate about ND, recruits well, and knows how to win. Sounds terrible doesn't it.

completely agree, i dont see why so much hate for urban, and dont say the poaching thing, cause charlie took jonas and trevor from nebraska, how do u justify that? all coaches remain and contact and try to persuade recruits, i bet u that charlie has used some form of negative recruiting before too.

Sadly, but I think you'll agree, that part of that "light" is good coach. Frankly in the coaching profession, it is virtually impossible to get anything but a mercenary. We all love Lou, but how many different jobs did he have? it's not a bad thing, but these guys can be fired so easily that not looking out for #1 would be stupid on their part.

I have a big problem with Urbie for one simple reason. He turned down his "dream job" because he thought it would be too tough to win here. He, or his agent or ghost-writer, came up with a convenient excuse a few years later, but we know why he did it. That told me it wasn't his dream job, and he could leave whenever he felt there was a better opportunity elsewhere. I see him in the same light as I see Saban.

I think that Urban was looking out for his best interests, can you blame him? I actually think it was a smart move by him knowing our recruiting woes. He's won everywhere he's been, sounds like a great candidate to me. :-D

why the hate for Meyer? simply because he choose not to come to ND back in 2004?

if its true from in the article, he choose Florida to be close to home and his family. is that a reason to hate him? i think not.

he is one of the top coaches in college football. he is someone everyone should want because there is a great chance he could turn this program into a consistant national title contender.

we all wine that Weis isnt doing a good job to make this team a winner, something Meyer would almost certainly do ..and people dont want him?

if i found out after the season Weis was out and Meyer was in i would be very excited.

Exactly, any negative on him is because hes not here.

I do not see him transferring from Florida to ND simply because it is, for all intents and purposes, a lateral move. Yes, Notre Dame is the biggest stage in college football, but not necessarily the best gig. He would be trading a better recruiting situation and more flexibility for a great deal of stress and some prestige. Doesn't make a lot of sense if you look at it from his perspective.

That is exactly my thought. Urban Meyer would be great at ND. Hes so good at recruiting, went undefeated w/ Utah, won a NC at UF in his first few years, and is en route to another this year. He would win with us, and I think he would make us a dominant force. However, I don't think it will happen anytime soon.
