kgd1001
Why is it not exciting to go to notre dame games anymore?? why are there so many other teams in the country who blast pump up music during timouts and there teams run out of the tunnels and the whole place is on their feet jumping up and down and you cant even hear anything in the stadium. this year especially sucks, everyone is quiet and boring in the stadium. other teams are not scared at all to come in and beat us. the team doesnt even run out at the right time...the band and the announcer have been delayed on that. the team just runs to the end of the field and prays...only a few players jump up and down. we only get loud a few times on defense..our student section is quiet...what is happening?????? would it not be amazing if our team ran out to a screaming stadium with towels waving throught the whole stadium and music is blasting during the dreadful tv timeouts. we need to get the place rockin and pumped up....geez
chirodomer
Could you get pumped up when your team has been neutered by the coaches?

I think are several issues that go into ND stadium being quiet.... 1) there are lest than 10,000 students at the university, so that leaves 70,000+ non students... 2) for the most part, the only people that can afford ND season tickets are wealthier older people and businesses - those people don't have the passios or ability to make alot of noise.... 3) the stadiums achitecture doesn't lend itself to caturing noise. UM has 110,000 in their stadium and they have the same problem....
kgd1001
many schools who dont seat anywhere close to 81000 still get loud...any student section can be loud they just have to be pumped up. its just lame and nd has turned into an event for rich alumni....and thats boring. it doesnt matter size of architecture or anything...we were loud and pumped up for USC game in 2005....it can be done... kgd1001
plus the last time i checked tickets to LSU, FLorida, Ohio State, OKlahoma, Texas, and all other big time programs are pretty expensive
GunSlinger
I was switching back and forth from the game to PSU and MICH. St., Happy Valley is freaking nuts gameday and during the game the fans never shutup. I turn it back to the Irish and its like being at a morgue. I made a joke during the game that the Irish fans couldn't even boo loudly.
Guest SirJohn
I agree kgd and Gun. We have had many past posts on this issue. Quiet a bit is due to ticket holders saying "Shut up and sit down." And Gun that was a funny crack you made.

People in America have to be entertained 100% of the time. That's another problem with this country. Learn to enjoy the quiet or make you own entertainment during timeouts. That's why we have the band. We don't need that stupid-a$$ glitz to keep people's attention the entire time. Second, I agree that the stadium is ALWAYS quiet, even during the game. I DID have a problem with that when I was at ND. Our fans don't stand up and get after it. It used to tick me off that we didn't have the same energy as an SEC school during the game. Every now and then we do, but not often. The TV timeouts really kill the moment of the game, too. We have to tell NBC to do something about that. da coach
I have been to a handful of games at ND...and the stadium isn't dull. The crowd is usually loud, cheering and when the team plays well, they are very loud. Are we going to be as loud as LSU or Ohio State...No, because they have 24k more people at their games, 50k more students in the stadium and they are all loaded drunk upon arrival. Let's not forget the weather had something to do with this weekends game, as did the turd they laid on the field during halftime. ------ However, someone needs to find out who threw the snowballs and get their asses banned from the stadium...Recruits and ND players were hit with snowballs and that is pathetic. irishwavend
I think the structure of the stadium may hurt acoustics, too, because we aren't built straight up. As far as the snowball throwers, they should be expelled. Those aren't people who embrace or embody what it means to be part of the Notre Dame family. In my opinion, F them. If you want to be that immature, go to the Big Ten. Some of these kids have book smarts but no street smarts. Others are just dicks.

IrishGuy
All things considered, I did not think it was too bad at the stadium (energy wise). We went and watched 2 teams that by most accounts were not very good. It was freezing cold, and we were sitting in 12 inches of snow. I am not saying we were loud....but all things considered... The snow ball throwing was embarrassing. I am embarrassed for us (as fans). When we resort to throwing snowballs at refs, the opposition, and our own players.....what does that say for us? ....just sad.

Pregame
Again, with the snowballs 99% of them were aimed at other students, just kids goofing around having fun with their friends. I honestly cannot believe so many people around here take themselves so seriously that they believe a kid should be expelled for throwing snowballs. Are you serious? You honestly believe that throwing a snowball should get you expelled? Why so critical of drunk students and no criticism for the dumb decision of the school to leave the snow there in the first place? Also, the ushers did their best to dismiss the students who were targeting the field. Won't ever give them much credit but they did do a good job of getting those kids out of the game. Probably should have sent them straight to their deaths, but I bet they were just kicked out of the game.
Pregame
On to the actual thread, I believe that Notre Dame should put replay screens over the press box and immediately across from the press box on the other side and even in the south endzone. That would give us replay screens in the east, west and south ends of the stadiums. This would allow us a strategic advantage on replays. This would keep some of the noise in the stadium and improve the acoustics. This would allow the stadium to play some "pump up" type highlights during the tv timeouts. I know many people would hate the idea of "sullying" notre dame's pristine stadium and for the most part I agree. I don't think this changes would be too invasive however. Touchdown Jesus would still be in view. The actual scoreboards wouldn't be changed too much. We gain strategic advantages such as noise and replays. I'm personally all for it.
