I said it early on, I STAND BY IT. He's not the young man to lead this team. I think he's suspect as well.

that I dont agree on.

with bad coaching, ZERO run game, and a poor oline your not going to get great qb play. Hes shown he can be a good qb.

nah...can't hang this one on Clausen. Or this season

The kid had 291 yrds and 2 tds with no picks and had a solid completion percentage with no running game! What are you saying man?

Talk to me next year when he starts riding the pine.

yeah..... talk to me when you sober up.

I disagree on this one. Clausen has tremendous potential: a great arm, the right attitude for a quarterback, and real desire. I would not argue with anyone who has said that his development is behind schedule -- in fact, it would not be a stretch to say that he has regressed over the last four or five games. But that can be laid squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff with their game plans (or lack thereof) and their play calling (or lack thereof). And losing Floyd has not helped either.

This thread bares no merit. Look at his stats, then tell me it was his fault. I understand he has things to work on, but he's really the last of our worries IMO.

one receiver does not make or break a qb. Even if MF was out there, JC would just overthrow him. With that being said, i think it is a combo of bad coaching and JC not being as great as he was hyped.

BINGO! my feelings EXACTLY!!!!!

Clausen isn't the problem. Show me a better TRUE sophomore QB with the same sort of expectations?

Think what you want. He won't be the starting QB by week three 2009.

Oh wait..let me see...hmmm...oh i know..how about Tim Tebow last year!

Yes Clausen still has his deficiencies. He stares down receivers, his decision making is at times questionable and he often puts his team in big holes by trying to avoid a sack. But NC layed the game plan for how to beat ND. Rush 3 or 4, and drop 7 or 8. ND can't run the ball and can't pass with that many ppl in coverage. Simple as that.

Do you honestly think Crist will be that far along to supplant Clausen by next year? Crist was by no means as polished as Clausen coming out of high school. Yes he probably has the stronger arm, but isn't as accurate and obviously doesn't have the experience. Crist is probably more mobile and will be able to shed ppl in the pocket similar to Quinn did b/c of his size and strength.

But, until we get an Oline coach who can develop players, and a head coach who doesn't use NFL blocking techniques, we will continue to struggle against good teams.

Dully noted, but compare the talent surrounding him to the talent surrounding Clausen. And that was last year. Of course you could go back in the past and find better true sophomore QB's.

I think we can all agree that Clausen has things to work on. But I think that in the totality of it all, there are a lot more areas of concern if we're going to improve in my lifetime.

Is anyone else tired of waiting?? I wait the whole winter and summer and then tank when the season hits. Why can't this be easy?? Alright, sorry for the rant! :-D

agree, tebow has so much talent around him and a great o line, same thing with pryor at OSU, jimmy would be killing at anyone of these schools with that kind of talent and o line

Jimmy will be the starting QB in all of 2009...barring injury. He's not the root of our problems, its the O-line.

that is a lame excuse. jimmy has talent around him too! it is not like he is playing with a bunch of one stars - St Mary's School of the Blind All-Stars. Oh...i see..it is everyone else's fault except JC. While JC is not the sole problem, he is a problem and is not without fault for this teams poor performance. For christsake, he is suppose to be the leader of this team. The poor play falls on two people, CW and JC.

Sorry. Jimmy has the talent. So does Armando Allen, James Aldridge, Sam Young, and everyone CW has recruited.

What they're lacking is the coaching and the failure of the coaching to develop these talents.

It's not Jimmy or the talent...it's the offense.

Teams like Florida take advantage of their athleticism by using the spread. Weis' pro-style offense dumbs down the talent advantage that we have.

College football is a different animal.

Clausen definately has the arm/talent to play well. Just look at the end of the half. We marched right down the field because we ran the closest thing to the spread we ever have and Syracuse's athletes on defense couldn't keep up.

You don't have to run the spread but you have to spread the defense out. We run too many slants out of shotgun and the run is predictable/just bad.
