Donjuan
http://www.mgoblog.com/content/sam-mcguffie-others-leaving-team If true, sounds like UM is falling apart. Edited November 18, 2008 by Donjuan
hawaiiirish
have to really hand this one to charlie-- we go 3 and 9 and somehow he manages to hold on to the no 1 class-- michigan goes 3 and 9 and although everyone expected them to be rebuilding with rich rod and his history atWV was very good yet hes having all kind of problems
Franco
not surprising at all, with RichRod "bringing in his OWN players" I see almost all of the skill position players riding the pine next year. I'm actually surprised that none of the QB's are transferring.

I'm actually surprised that none of the QB's are transferring. As of right now, either Threet or Sheridan will be starting next year as well. Neither of the running QB's that DickRod has coming in next year are world-beaters, especially not as True Freshmen. As of now, I don't see Meatchicken being a whole lot better next year, maybe 5-7 or 6-6 at best.
IrishKevin
Should be interesting to see where McGuffie goes (if all of this is true). But I do hand it to Charlie too for keeping the ship on course after last year.
Katzenboyer
Wow. That really surprises me. I thought he was a good fit for that offense.
dangeruss
Wow. That really surprises me. I thought he was a good fit for that offense. no doubt. i wonder if it has anything to do with how well brandon minor has been playing, he's done very well running the ball. i'd be glad to see mcguffie leave, ND had a hell of a time trying to stop him. if UM didn't go to the spread offense they would've been a pretty solid team this year with ryan mallet running the show. Both of Michigan's QB recruits are top 10 dual threat QB recruits, with Tate Forcier from San Diego being ranked fourth or fifth with Rivals and Scout. Both of these 4 star recruits, including Shavrodrick Beaver, out of Texas are better than what Michigan has right now and either could start in 2009. Most Michigan fans are very excited about these two QB's who will be enrolling in January, but particularly Tate Forcier. With many offensive players coming back from this very young offense, I suspect Michigan will be better next season, but I do not see much better than a 7-5 record. Time will tell. I've heard the Beav is looking else where. I would also be shocked to see a true freshman start at QB next year for UM, and I've already heard that Threet will get the early nod. If they do opt for for a true freshman, it would be an extremely long season for them.

ND got the second rated Dual-Threat QB behind Tim Tebow in 2006. That didn't work out too well for us. Granted, our system doesn't suit a dual-threat very well but relying on a true frosh, and ND can attest to this, is shaky at best. TP was the #1 overall/can't miss recruit last year and he is by no means lighting the world on fire. He is also surrounded by one of the top defenses in the country and one of the best RB's in the country. Neither Forcier or Beaver will have anywhere close to that. So, do you see where I'm going with this? By the way, welcome to DD. Edited November 18, 2008 by SDIrishFan
Donjuan
And he is playing with an offense that returned 9 starters, excluding Boeckman. A true frosh with other kids is never a good idea. Also, wasn't McGuffie one of "his guys?" Nope, he was one of Carr's guys. Then he couldn't decide between Cal and UM until 5 minutes before the hat ceremony. I think it's a dumb move on his part --if true-- to just walk away from a starting position right to the pine for a year, but it's his own decision and he has to do what he thinks is right. Thank goodness because it's scary to think of him in space.

I think Michigan will be almost an exact replica of ND. Last year, ND fielded the all around worst team it has ever put on the field....same for UM this year. This year, ND showed signs of greatness, but also fell on their faces alot due to ..... well many reasons. I think UM is going to be at .500 next year or slightly better. I do not see them missing a bowl game again.

The thing you have to remember about UM next year is that they are probably going to have a freshman QB, so I would be surprised if they show as much improvement as alot of people think. Remember that we went through our 3-9 season with a freshman QB, so UM may struggle again next year.. IrishCalves
McGuffie is tailor made for this offense, but there's a lot going on with this kid. Gotta put aside the typical "Michigan sucks" line for a moment. I remember hearing the whispers earlier this year about how unhappy/depressed Sam was once he got up to Ann Arbor in the first place. This is a kid that from the sound of it (not a lot of details to be found) did not grow up in a stable home. And Michigan may not be a great fit for him either. Read one of his interviews, where he said he pretty much despises big time attention and being interviewed - its not like Michigan isn't a high profile school; the limelight comes with the program, like it or not. Said that he only wants to be remembered as a guy who is known for "being there", nothing more (not even football), that he sincerely regrets being the youtube sensation. Seems like a really shy and introverted guy too that takes a long while to warm up to people. Maybe being that far out and on his own is too much for him, I dunno. At any rate, this doesn't sound like your typical "I want my playing time waaah!" type of situation. This sounds like a kid that was really torn in making his collegiate decision between A&M and UM, and maybe he made the wrong choice for himself and needs go go back home. Throw in a death in the family, and you've got yourself a really rough 1st semester of college. I hope Sam finds whatever he's looking for, 'cause it sounds like he's been through a lot and needs some help right now.
