I received the call 5 minutes that ND is no longer in the running for McCoy. It comes down to 1 thing-----Money. Notre Dame is NOT willing to pay and the others are.

My source has been awesome but he chose the biggest catch to be wrong.

Let me swing this back to complimenting the man who has been providing me invaluable ND recruiting information. Up to this point, he has been phenomenal. He has almost always been well ahead of any premium site in announcing a Notre Dame committment. he has multiple sources. All are very good but one in particular is a monster of a connection. I'll have to leave it at that.

Back to the positive, he ended the conversation by telling me that Jimmy Clausen has already committed to Notre Dame.

Sorry to let you down on this one.

:) Not a problem: We move to another name.

So Jimmy verbed? :D

Let me be one of the first of what will no doubt be many in saying that no apology is necessary. You've been a standup guy and have provided us with some incredible scoops. I, for one, appreciate you sharing what you do. Thanks for everything. Besides, given the circumstances of McCoy's denying ND, you can see why the kid would have fudged the truth with ND connections. So much for deep religious feelings and the desire for education. To hell with 'em. Your scoop that we have Clausen should be enough for any domer to recover quickly from the McCoy loss. In short, thanks Broker, and don't let this make you hold back future scoops. We're all big boys and know how fluid this recruiting game really is. You've been outstanding.

No doubt, Broker, you have to miss at least ONE every now and then. I can't believe it's taken this long, what with the fickle nature of recruiting and all. I'm still going by the "Broker Barometer" when it comes to recruiting. I really wish we could have landed either McCoy or Micah Johnson, but I think our coaches can work Kates into shape.

whats going on a fella say he is coming ,then drops out, whats the money angle, ?? that's a no no , sj , i guess this happens? :(

He is going to get paid from the university (boosters) that he chooses. You'll read on other sites that some "personal issues" came up. Those personal issues are that the family is having financial problems and he will be getting paid to play college football. Notre Dame told him they would not be involved in anything like that. Hence, we are now out.

I'm assuming that he will be going to OU but I do NOT know that. I was told today that one of the worst schools when it comes to paying kids is LSU. ND will often times not even try hard on a recruit when LSU is strongly involved. Their rep for paying recruits is extremely bad. I'm sure they are not the only one. ND has integrity. They won't have anything to do with that.

broker you never have to apologize in my book, ur always on top of everything.

as far as the money issue goes im proud to root for a school and a coach who wont stand for that and wont pay a kid when he was a huge need, if schools lower themselves to that then it just cheapens the experience in my opinon

thank you charlie and ND for being so stand up, and thank you broker for the info, as always you are on top of things

This Jimmy C news is huge, if he is on board Benn will follow and probably Tyler later on in the process, this next class is going to be the best we have ever had in my opinon, this is going to be a great recruiting season to follow

Ouch! I don't want to wade in on this one other then the Big Buzz among coaches at the AFC Coaches convention was not over any rules.

The buzz was over a Billionaire Alumnus of Oklahoma State University donating 165 million to that schools athletic department. That's on top of 100 million he donated in past years. OK is endulging in an arms race and should have first cflass facilities.

Regis where are you when Notre Dame needs you? :D

One coach was quoted as saying "Bro can I have a loan?"

Well this sucks. But hey, like you said before broker, these are 18 year old kids, things change. For all that we know, you were probably right on top of things (McCoy verbed to coach Haywood), and then maybe he had a change of heart because of the money or something like that. It kind of makes me sick that universities would throw money at kids so that they can get them to come to their school. It also makes me proud that ND operates by principle , at least some still have integrity.

thanks for the info broker. jimmy would be a huge pick up and a key element to the recruiting class for 2007. i think charlie will have jimmy making many phone calls in the near future.

Sometimes sources are good and sometimes their off. You cant account for what a kid might do later on in the recruiting process. For you to apologize is ludicrous. This site gets more recruit scoop than any site I have ever been to because of guys like you! These teams no they arent going to be able to compete once these kids set foot on the ND campus so they try to do whatever they can to sway these kids, maybe a new car for mom or some cash to help pay the bills. It eventually will get out and the team that gets outted will pay. Unfortunately it wont happen soon enough. Remember Albert Means and Alabama. The situation might be different but the principle is still the same! I wouldnt want a kid like this anyway! I cant help but feel no remorse for kids or schools who cheat once the ncaa drops the hammer on them! If this kid decided to go anywhere else it is because he did cheat and I sincerely hope he gets outted and everything that goes with it. Broker, did Clausen verb at the Junior Weekend or earlier. I heard he may have done it earlier but I also could have been wrong!!! See it happens! Keep up the good work Brother Domer!

BG, you are correct about Jimmy. He verbaled before the junior day.

Thanks for clarifying! I am so excited about ND Football right now I cant stand it. I hope all of you guys are seeing take place what I am seeing take place. We are building a complete and total machine in South Bend. We may have a team pretty soon the likes of which has never been seen before at ND.

that sucks that McCoy is out

with this whole money situation, if its known that McCoy wants/is getting money from Oklahoma, isnt that something the NCAA should look into because isnt it illegal?

like the saying where theres smoke theres fire, and if theres word that players are getting paid shouldnt the NCAA just jump in and investigate.

maybe im not totally clear on this, but a school cant personally pay a player, but a booster who is an alum of some school, he can pay a player to attend that school he is an alum too?

No boosters can't pay the players. That's how Troy Smith got suspended.

Don't worry about it being unclear. The NCAA has a HUGE book of do's and don'ts. I'll reel of a couple actual examples and give some other in general.

A booster in Wisconsin had a shoe store and gave all football players a 25% off discount. NCAA sanctioned Wisconsin for that. You cannot give an athlete something you do not offer any other student.

Spurrier wrote Konrad Rueland a letter before NCAA rule allowing written materials sent to a player.

Now a booster can offer a job after class to a football player if he also provides jobs for a normal student. That job must be paid equally, and actually show up and do the work. Otherwise it's a violation. No "loans" But it happens.

Watches, cars, DVD gifts are NO. However, picture a student going back to his dorm and finding an expensive DVD, Epod or watch on his bed and wonderin who?

So it is a minefield to enforce and keep track of for Coaches, NCAA and student/Athletes.
