hawaiiirish
lets just hope we can beat BC this week--- if we do and roll into USC a very descent 8 and 3--then hell it would be fun getting two powerhouse teams in a row-- USC- OKLAHOMA--wow it would be something to even get a game like that!---maybe looking for the weakest team we can get in a bowl is a little chicken on our part--- anyhow fingers crossed we come out ready and firing at BC--- "Chance favors the prepared mind"--- L. pastuer

Losing by 40 2 straight games is not a way I want to go in to the off season. I will gladly take a powder puff in our bowl if it means we get a decent shot at a win. I am sick of hearing about our bowl streak.....I am also sick of barely qualifying for a bowl and getting pitted against a team 50x better than us only because we travel well and make money. I want a team that we "deserve" to play.
dangeruss
No thanks to playing the #2 in the Big 12. ditto that. i want ND to have no part in playing in the cotton bowl. i'd much rather see ND go to the sun bowl and play iowa or the gator bowl and play virgina. D Fence
No thanks to playing the #2 in the Big 12. That is hilarious Ray. No, I don't want to step into that beatdown either! LOL
Nofairweather
I believe it would be better to play in the gator. We would still play a quality team and have a good chance at breaking the bowl game slump we have been in. Lets just finish the season vastly improved from last year and finally win a bowl game. Coaches, players, recruits, and fans can feel good going into next year. Next year we make a run for a NC. We just need to keep getting better every week. dangeruss
Next year we make a run for a NC. i really doubt we'll have the defense for a NC run.
domeanddomer
i really doubt we'll have the defense for a NC run. Run for a NC? At this point I'd settle for a run for a first down on 3rd and 1. Or hell...4th and 1 for that matter seeing as how there is literally NO place on the field in which we will not go for it on 4th down. It is foolish to think that we are anywhere near a run for a NC at this point.
Nofairweather
I said, "I said a run at a NC". I did not say win a NC. I did not say that we would even be in the NC game. Its not unrealistic to think ND has a chance to compete next year. With 3 great recruiting seasons in a row and having another good recruiting year ND should be pretty talented. Look at the young talent that are contributing now. Now lets add another group of talent that will have some of the players making an immmediate impact. We will have 4 classes of players recruited by CW and 4 full classes of high ranked recruiting classes. If you think that ND does not have the athletes to even put themselves in a position to compete next year then either you are crazy or the whole staff needs to be fired. I do not think it is the latter. ND had the 5th ranked recruiting class for this next group of seniors (recruiting class 06), the 11th best class in 07 (juniors), what is now considered the #1 class in 08 (sophmores), and what may very well be another top 10 class for freshman. Alabama(BCS#1),Texas Tech(#2), and Penn State(#3) did even do that. Edited November 6, 2008 by Nofairweather
Guest irishrick
hi fairweather good point i think that we can make a run in 09, we should be in the top 5 o6 teams next year, we have the talent its just a matter of time before we get there , but we have to look out for Texas, Florida and other teams they are getting top talent also . we should be in the HUNT. GO IRISH
Katzenboyer
No cotton, please. We'd be overmatched in that game. Let's get the Gator and bring in a bowl W and end the streak, please.
irish21
Hell no to the cotton bowl. We would get the (expletive) kicked out of us by the top 4-5 Big12 teams. Id much rather play Miami/VT/GT in the Gator Bowl.
rdrdreamer
A Bowl would be a great way to end the season. Being overwhelmed in one would be terrible.

I like what you're saying Nofair, but we have no chance to compete for a NC next year with the O and D line performing the way it is. I wouldn't be shocked to see us in the top 10, but no way are we or will we be ready to crack the top 3. Even with all of that talent you speak of. As you've said, we have or are getting the personnel to compete. It's just that to legitimately compete for the NC we have to realistically hang with the SEC, Big 12, SC's of the world and I still think that is a tall order for next year seeing as where we are at THIS year. hawaiiirish
i just dont have the heart to root for a weak bowl opponent---if we go 7 and 5 we will get a weakish one, so there you go-- but if we go 8 and 4 and someone wants to offer us a bigger high profile game against a team thats too good for us---( first id be surprised if that were true at 8 and 4 but if it is) id say great!!!--and id be willing to wager that the team and coaches would also rather risk a big loss against the challenge of proving your mettle!--afterall its only a game-- its the end of the season---maybe we would all feel better , ending with a 8 and 5 and a win over georgia tech, then and 8 and 5 with a 44 to 10 drubbing by texas or some such-- but as they say "No Guts No Glory"------beat bc! ohioirishfan
I agree with you guys. We don't need to be anywhere near the Cotton bowl, b'c we would be overmatched and we would all have to listen to ESPN and all of the haters say how long its been since we won a bowl game. They would also say that we only got the game b/c we are ND. I personally would love the gator bowl against somebody like UVA (I am a UVA grad, but ND fan first). As for NC hopes, I think next year we can be a top 15 team, and maybe 2010 we will make a serious run when Jimmy, Golden, Armando etc are seniors. Just my thoughts. How funny would that be for us to have to play Texas in the Cotton Bowl because Texas Tech runs the board and goes to the NC game. Actually, not very funny at all. If we did happen to beat usc to get that invite to the Cotton though, I wouldn't mind our chances at all.
