TorontoCroatian
Guys what do you think? I fear we lose to BC, get destroyed by U$C and the toss up game against Navy could go either way... If we go 6-6, and then lose a bowl game, a season with so much promise at 4-1 will have went up in smoke at 6-7...and how does that impact our next year's class?...hopefully noone de-commits. No disrespect to our opponents, but we should never be losing to the purdues, North Carolinas, MSU, Pitts, Navys, etc yet we continually do!??!?!....the big boys like $C, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma would absolutely destroy these teams...will we finally turn the corner next year and reach the elite? I pray we do, but fear we won't...maybe I am too pessimistic...but that's how I am I guess... My heart can't take losses like last night...and how many OT games are we going to lose at home? Yesterday, last year against Navy, a few years before that MSU, I think we lost to BYU as well....just too painful....I knew heading into OT we would lose...heartbreaking to say the least... SpeedsterX
If we can beat BC, 9-4 and a bowl win would be great after 3-9 and inept. IN FACT, I WILL SETTLE FOR 8-5 AND A BOWL WIN! What do you think about that? Have I lowered my standards for the great Notre Dame?? No, but I STILL realize what I expected this year after last and like I said in my other post, we are where we thought we would be with 8-4 and exceed with 9-3. For anyone going on meltdown with 8-4 or 9-3 is just being ridiculous! Now, if we lose to Syracuse or Navy, then I will go on meltdown and I will not try and give excuses or explain it away. Yes, we really should have beat Pitt. I really believe we are better than them as a whole. Our run defense lost that game, pure and simple. IrishGrizz
No, but I STILL realize what I expected this year after last and like I said in my other post, we are where we thought we would be with 8-4 and exceed with 9-3. People who expect the world from a so-so team are going to continue to talk out there a$$.
IrishGuy
Coming in to this season, I expected 7-5 during the regular season.....with anything more than that being icing on the cake. After a couple games, I was thinking 9-3 was very easily doable.....I guess a couple wins after a 3-9 season will give you rose colored glasses for a while. After yesterday, I think I am in a more realistic mindset. I think 7-5 is more realistic than 8-4 or better. Pitt was not as good of a team as ND, and they outplayed us and beat us at home. We are young, and I expected a couple of games like this (where though we were a superior team, we couldn't put it all together). BC is a better team than we are. We have to play them at BC. We are going to have a very tough game, and I fully expect BC to win. I think Navy is going to be tough, but we are going to win. Syracuse will be a gimme....and let's not talk about USC. 7-5 going into our bowl. Depending on who we get, we could head into the off season with an 8.5 record.....which ain't half bad after a 3-9 season.

hawaiiirish
we can and should go 9 and 4 speedster-- yes we cant beat usc BUT we MUST beat BC and NAVY---if we can do that and win a bowl game the terrible feelings of yesterday will turn to optimism for next year-- if we loose to BC--and GOD forbid NAVY-- going 6 and 6 it will be in my opinion be one of the worse wastes of talent i have ever seen and a disaster for charlie and all of us!! rdrdreamer
In my heart, I saw us being better than 7 and 5. I looked at the strides we have made thus far and as a fan...expected to possibly win at least 9 games...and having a better than average shot at the Condoms. While I will not ever waver in my expectations...a realistic scenario for the remainder of this season should still include an 8 and 5 finish or better. A respectable showing in a Bowl game would be icing on the cake.
TorontoCroatian
I think alot of patience here is with the understanding that next year we will challenge for the title and be among the elite.......but what if we have 4 losses next year...is that completely unacceptable to everyone? For me, anything more than 2 losses and we really have to take a long hard look at what the coaches are doing... Yesterday and the NC game should have been wins...no and/ifs/or butts....I think BC is an absolute must win...
IrishGrizz
Hawaii- you throw out some amazing words sometimes. Not using hyperbole, are you?. First you say we will kill a team, almost guarantee it, and then when we lose and you think we might lose some more games we think we should win, you use 'disaster for charlie and all of us'. You have a little problem with perspective, don't you?

We should however be a 10 or 11 game winner. Especially with another favorable schedule. S05 NEVADA S12 @ Michigan S19 MICHIGAN ST. S26 @ Purdue O03 WASHINGTON O17 SOUTHERN CAL O24 BOSTON COLLEGE O31 Washington St. (SA) N07 NAVY N14 @ Pittsburgh N21 CONNECTICUT N28 @ Stanford I'm glad Pitt is later in the season too. We should be absolutely rolling by then. Payback will be really sweet.
irishwavend
We beat BC. We kill navy. We have the speed to stop navy. That's really how to beat them defensively. THe problem with many teams is that they have too many big guys to fight a quick navy team. With Tate & Floyd plus our RBs, we will be navy handily this year. It won't be a problem. crouchingjedi
From day one I always thought given our schedule that 8-4 and a bowl win was the minimum expectation based on our schedule. Numerically, we are still on track with that. What is frustrating is when we play these games and we know we have more talent on the field than the opposing team and we blow it. I am all for giving young kids a pass on mistakes, that's why after UNC I had hope despite the turnovers. The game plan in the 2nd half completely stunk. I am frustrated because clearly we have better talent on the roster, and our coaches blew a great opportunity for these kids. +3 in the turnover margin, 0 turnovers ourselves, being outscored 21-7 in the second half is the definition of being outcoached. One could argue Golden Tate saved the coaches from being completely embarrassed in this game. I am not a hater, I am upset because I care for this program and I feel that next year we may never have more talent on the roster and the time will be right for the harvest. We cannot afford being outcoached this way again.

ND didn't move the ball well against washington or against pitt, i just don't see ND winning against BC. their defense is better and their offense does fairly well. navy will be a tough game considering we can never stop their option attack but ND should be able to out score them. syaracuse will be a win but i doubt it'll be an easy win. USC will kill ND again. ND will probbly end up in the insight.co bowl.
Guest brady112106
A painful 8-5 (painful because of watching ND lose to NC and Pitt the way they did). Could easily be 9-4 (9-3 regular season: ND probably would've gone to a bowl they're not ready for and lose) with those two games, but, as eveyone's saying, 8-5 is much more acceptable than 3-9. hawaiiirish
i guess we cant beat BC after all north carolina beat them by 20 and we were the better team against them-- but we cant beat BC-- i guess we cant beat BC-- a 4 and 4 clemson team beat then but i guess we cant-- afterall thats clemson and everyone is better then us so we should just realize we are a so so team that cant win doesnt deserve to win maybe next year or 2010 or after jimmy graduates- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz--- we can we will and we must beat BC-- yes im hyper critical of this loss because we should have won this game and the NC game-- too many posters (GRIZZ)__-- have completely bought the line that espn pushes -- we arent too good we havent much talent we cant beat a good team- to expect us to win is just asking for old glory for a team thats incapable of achieving-- that my friends ( QUOTING JOHN MCCAIN)-- is hogwash--- no one knows better then charlie although he wont say that he had a great chance to show the country ND is back and on its way-- and he let it get away with these last two losses-- i guess we should be happy were not 3 and 9 maybe we should just accept that mark may knows best eh!!! dangeruss
the fact is ND is a 2nd tier team right now. untill they learn how to play a 60 min. game with out sputtering and learn how to shut the door on their opponent then thats all they'll be. they have improved a lot this year but next year will be telling since it'll be all of CWs players. hawaiiirish
i agree with that dangeruss--and i have no problem with us being a 2nd tier team this year-- i think there is too much opinion that sees us as a 3rd tier team and 6 and 6 will make us just that--- we are at the top of the second tier dangeruss--most 2nd tier teams dont let TWO top 25 teams just barley get away at the end-- that is what happens when 2 top 25 teams meet and one has to loose--we should be at least 6 and 2 and with a spoonful of luck___ (luck being the residue of design) 7 and 1-- a team that close to such a great turnaround sits higher in the second tier then our record or our expectations--i am in fact still cheerleading for this team just doing it with some tough love!!
