Do we need another QB this soon with christ on the sidelines waiting?

In a perfect world, we would take a QB every year with a high caliber QB being every other year.

The timing for Heaps would be perfect. He would be 2 years behind Crist, and would have 2 years (hopefully) that he gets to spend watching and learning with JC, and another year to compete with Crist.

Since Crist is redshirting this year, he will have 4 years of eiligibility remaining after this year. Crist could technically be here til 2012. If JC stays 4 years, Crist will likely be starting for us in 2011 and 2012.

If Heaps were to come to ND, he would be a freshman in 2010. He would likely redshirt that year. If Crist stays for his 5th year (2012), heaps would still have 2 years of eiligibility remaining (2013, 2014).

If we could keep this schedule of QBs, CW would be a very happy man.

ND has 3 scholarship QB's as of now and with Sharpley graduating that leaves only 2 after this season and that's not nearly enough. Some guys won't pan out and there are always injuries that could happen. I want 4 scholarship QB's on the roster at all times.

ND's not taking a QB in '09 so I expect 2 in 2010 even if Heaps ends up Irish because he's Mormon and he will be on mission for 2 years and that it would leave Crist as the only scholarship QB if 2 weren't taken.

IMO even if ND get Heaps I don't think he will be Crist's successor I think that will go to a fellow 2010 recruit because he will have been on his mission for 2 years and the other QB who will have been Crist's backup would be the next QB for a couple of years and then it would be Heaps turn.

What we know is that he wouldn't play as a freshman and that would allow him to apply as a 5th year senior and then he's got his LDS mission for 2 years so he's more of a 2012 or 2013 recruit when you think about it and that means there needs to be more QB's on the roster.

Is anyone else worried about recruiting a quarterback whose listed height is 6'2"? I don't know anything about Jake and I don't mean to be disrespectful, but especially in the ND offense, isn't a taller quarterback preferable?

Measurables are over-rated. If you can play ball, you can play ball. I'm sure Drew Brees heard that talk most of his life. Not to mention the countless Hall of Fame QBs who weren't your 'prototypical' 6'4" 215 lbs. I'd be willing to bet there are more QBs in the Hall of Fame that are 6'2" and under than there are above 6'2".

JC seems to be doing alright for himself and he's 6'1".

Jimmy is 6'3", he stood side by side with Matt Barkley and was about 3/4 of an inch taller than him and Matt is listed at 6'3" also. Id say Heaps is closer to 6'2" than 6'1" though.
