I heard Freddie Parrish was left out of an updated Summer roster and is considering a transfer. If this is true, that really is too bad because I thought he could be a real playmaker.

I can't say as I'm totally shocked to hear this. The logical argument is "What has he done anyway?" But the reality is that he is a truly gifted athlete that was thrown under that same bus as Travis Thomas, Anthony Vernaglia, the list goes on. I am a little shocked to see his name excluded from the majority of preseason position talk. I would think if the talent was there, this staff would see it. I guess we just have to wait and see, and if it is true, hope for some top notch secondary recruits for the next couple of years.

This has been coming for a long time. I'm glad to see the door open for Vernaglia.

just think it could be a lot worse, and we could have lost a lot more players to the coaching transition. I guess that FP 4 never bought into charlie's system, unfortunately that will hurt us with wr terrance austin from parrish's former high school (polytechnic, cali).

Parrish was a senior when Austin was a freshman. I am assuming this, from my experience as a HS coach, freshmen and seniors don't converse, let alone form strong bonds. I don't think that this hurts our chances, but I am sticking with my guns and saying he goes to UCLA anyway.

I really don't want to sound arrogant but I have always thought he was very overrated. Of all the guys that have been thrown under the bus and underutilized I think Parrish is one guy that should not have played. To me he is to the secondary what Chris Olsen was to the QB's. Highly toughted but not that great. I watched him very closely at the Blue/Gold game and save for one monster hit on McKnight he talked the most and did the least. Vernaglia, Ferrione, Zibby, Duke, are all better athletes IMO and seemed to be in better position to make plays. Also, the guy that is my new favorite player is Ray Herring. If this gets him on the field quicker so be it. After reading his journals this kid is what ND is all about.

I read Ray's journals. That guy is Notre Dame 1,000 percent. :D

He's all heart if he had no shred of athletic ability, which he sure does have. He will be all over the field soon.

for what it's worth Parrish was still listed on the ND website as of july 15th as being on the roster. I've also seen on 2 different boards it's the same person saying this. I'm not so sure little timmy hasn't gotten access to daddy's computer and is setting off an internet firestorm.

Your comparison btwn Olsen and Parrish is perfect. I agree completely.

It just boggles my mind how a kid like Parrish comes in and some guy from espn or rivals says he's one of the top 2 or 3 players in the country at his position and all of sudden people are ready to crucify the coach b/c he's not playing. I have 2 words for that. Shane Walton!! If memory serves he came to ND on a soccer schollie and wound being an all-american as a d-back. As much as I think Willingham struggled at ND I think if he felt Parrish was better than Zibby or whoever he would have been playing. He played McKnight, Stovall, Walker, Ryan Harris, etc... as freshman so I find it hard to believe that Parrish was the impact player so many people are claiming him to be. While there did seem to be a lack of development for many players and maybe Parrish will prove to be an all-american or maybe he will disappear on another depth chart like Olsen did. So for what it's worth here's to Freddie Parrish and this Irish fan wishes him all the luck in the world (as long it's not against us) and here's to Ray Herring or Kevin Washington or whoever takes his place. Go Irish!!
