My first thought was that was photoshopped somehow. Did that truly happen? Someone needs to look into that refs dealings with bookies!!

Apparantly SC was using that ref as a pick all night, and he got fed up with it and lowered the boom. They scored anyways on the next play but it's still pretty odd.

Yea, I watched it over and over and over. At one point I'm thinking, Yea he tried to hit him and stepped into him. Then I rewatch it and I am thinking, well, maybe he's only trying to protect himself when he realizes he's going to get hit. I really don't know. It's really strange.

I'm with Speedster on this. I think he was just trying to protect himself when he realized he was in the same scheme route and had this big guy coming right at him. I'd do the same which is, protect myself. I don't want to go to the hospital. :)

he ain't a tree guys....he not only lowered the shoulder he stepped into the qb rather than away... refs hate it when the offense repeatedly uses their immobility to get extra yards... i remember seeing reggie bush use the refs to ruin angles of attack, but that was the sc that the ncaa loves to give full body massages to... so whatever.

He wasn't doing that as self-defense... Watch. He works himself down the line like a linebacker, shuffle shuffle, then takes a step forward and lowers his shoulder. He was just like an extra linebacker on the field. That was ridiculous. I don't care if he was being used all game. I hope he never officiates another game. He needs to know his role, which is to be a part of the field. If South Carolina is using him as a pick, well, too bad. You get paid. Do your job.

Non story guys, i watched the play live and, just watched the youtube. It looked worse on Youtube. The reason the ref shuffled over is, there was some LB action forcing him out of the "ref pocket", And when a guy is about to run into you do you just stand there and get blown up? He did lower his shoulder maybe too much :p

I was going to say the same thing. LB's coming from his other side and a little QB coming at ya, if you had to be hit, which one would you choose?

BUT, after looking at it yet again, he never even looks towards the LB's coming on his other side. He keeps his eyes on the QB and continues to shuffle into his path. Not only that but he actually wide steps towards the hit to give his shoulder. The more I look at it, the more suspect it looks.

BTW, went to lurk on some Stanford boards to hear the outrage but not one word about it that I could find. Hmmmmm,,,,,

Speedster, one reason you may not hear "not one word" about this incident on the Stanford board is that it happened to the QB from South Carolina in the game against LSU. Their helmets look remarkably similar...

That could a reason, I'm just sayin' : )

LMAO!!!!!!!!!

Just noticed that. I was only paying attention to the play itself and looking at the uni's and helmets just assumed Stanford. LOL!!

Ok, I'm a dolt! :mrgreen::mrgreen:

Here's another view:
