tchris555
kid seems pretty hesitant on the field. And if people want to rip me because they never want to hear negative things, then let's not praise people like calabrese and motta for being "ultra aggressive" ever again. Can't have it both ways. He seemed a little slow to me too, coming down on punt coverage and waiting for the ball instead of flying to it. But how can I judge him on a 2 minute clip? All in all though, I have zero reason to second-guess CW and his recruiting efforts. If he likes a kid and offers him, I'm sure it's of merit and I'm sure he's done his homework. Not just me sitting here complaining about a 2 minute video in which he stammered around looking lost. If there's one thing we should all agree on, it should be not to worry about recruiting anymore. Just be happy when we get a commit and look forward to the next. I think the staff has earned that respect.
dangeruss
kid seems pretty hesitant on the field. agreed. on kickoffs he seemed to jog down instead of run and during the tackle he sometimes stood around and watched. some how i doubt these are the type of LBs USC is going after. irishwavend
You should have seen Golden Tate on film. Talk about taking plays off and being lazy... It's all about potential.
irishziggy
last i checked he was a DE prospect not LB. And the kid's going to be a stud. Last I checked russ, you werent a talent evaluator. on diff kickoffs there's diff guys who do diff things, he may be the contain guy on the inside, we dk. On kickoff, not every guy runs down there like a mad man, some guys are contain, others are safeties. Esp with HS when most of the time, your underclassmen are playing the Sp Tms. Watch his highlight reel, the kid's good. And he's only a junior.

Golden Tate's film was electric actually. Complete opposite of this. It was so good in fact that people kept pointing to his compeition as a reason for it (a la Cierre Wood). Tate was also his entire team. This is like apples and oranges.

I think the staff has earned that respect. I have several reasons to second-guess our offers. Biggest reason: John Ryan. Don't get me wrong I love how Charlie recruits, but it doesn't mean the man's infallible when it comes to scouting prospects....look at our "stellar" Junior class....consistently getting beat out by younger guys. No one is immune to making mistakes....Plus I don't see USC and Ohio State breaking down this kid's door.....yet.

tchris555
already in the '10 US Army bowl you mean like Pat Kuntz? And that QB last year or the year before that didnt have any D1 offers? Or Mike Golic?
DJonesIRISH
I'd take three Pat Kuntzs on the D- line right now. Look at the kid's vid he's a man among boys as a soph.. I' don't mind being negative: I also, think John Ryan is garbage. I thought the same things you did, the kid looks like he doesn't like contact at all. However, this is a 2 min video with 1.5 min of him playing certainly we all can agree that making a judgment on that much footage is more than negative it is stupid. KamaraPolice
It's not even a highlight. He looks big and he appears to be pretty intelligent. Plus, he's playing against good competition. I'd say dont pass judgment just yet on him.
mcdougal93
Have to agree with DJ on this. Our staff at least deserves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to recruiting. This is a 2 minute video and some of us are passing judgment on this kid already based on two or three plays. Pat Kuntz has shown that he was a good recruit and Mike Golic did not play a bad game at the Army AA game. He was beat on a passing play but his run blocking was pretty good. BlackIrish42
No one. That's why I don't like the whole "just trust Charlie" BS whenever someone isn't all about one of our offers. i think what people are, rightly, IMO, saying is CW & staff have EARNED the *benefit of the doubt* on talent evaluations considering their improvement in rankings of their incoming classes for 3 straight years. no one thinks they're "infallible." but bringing up anecdotal evidence here and there like you have in this thread doesn't mean they are not really good talent evaluators either (as you seem to imply). look, no internet poster is gonna convince me that he is better talent evaluator than a coaching staff who just brought in a number one class. sorry, not buying it. you might be right on this guy and his "film" but i think a lot of us are giving the guy who's the best recruiter we've had since lou left the benefit of the doubt for the foreseeable future on *all* of his recruits...
