Guest brady112106
I was just reading on an II thread how confident the Tarheel fans are about this weekend. I'm not wasting my time looking at UNC websites, but a couple of Heel fans have ventured on to the ND sites, posting comments. I'm curious if anyone else read some of these comments and what your thoughts are. I will admit I'm nervous about this weekend, but expect an improved team from going on the road to MSU. From MSU, to Purdue, to Stanford we've seen improvements, and this weekend I don't expect anything different. I'm not even sure enough of myself to make a prediction, so what say all of you? irishziggy
I predict that it'll be a close game. Close loss if we cant make any FGs, close win if we can. I know it's tough to bring it down to that, but if we miss the first FG and have to go for it every time we're on or around the 30 ill shoot myself...or others. We need to bank on 3 when we have the lead or to cut the opponents lead. It's a day game, so the crowd wont be as bad as if it were a night game, so the road factor wont be that overwhelming and we have our swagger back. I anticipate the team to come out fired up ready to prove something. Like CW said, after the Michigan game guys were jumping around like they won the super bowl. Then losing to MSU brought us back to reality, but when we beat Purdue (the celebration wasnt that big b/c they believed they could win and are starting to expect it). I expect us to come out balls to the wall ready to go. Their running game doesnt scare me although their backup RB broke a couple nice runs in their last game (has almost same amt of yds as Greg Little with not much more than half of his carries). Their two bigtime WRs and QB who can sling it do scare me though. We have some talented DBs, but we've still let guys get open a lot this year. It'll be a good test. If we had Walls, Id be feeling a lot better (Lambert wouldnt be starting), but our DL needs to get in Sexton's face and get some sacks like last wk vs. Stanford. IrishGuy
I am kinda worried about this one. UNC has a monstrous D-Line. Marvin Austin is really really really scary. UNC did not have much of a running game til this passed Saturday, but it looks like they found one (and will probably re-find it against us). I am not too terribly concerned with their passing game. UNC is currently favored by 6-8 points. I think this is the toughest game on our schedule that doesn't involve playing convicts and felons. If ND can pull this one out, I think our chances of pulling in to SoCal with 1 loss are very good. This is the game that lets us know exactly how good we are. By most accounts, we SHOULD lose this one.
irishziggy
I agree with part of your statement, but with 4 of the next 5 being on the road. I'd be very happy if went 4-1 going into the Syracuse game which is basically a tune-up game for USC. So going into USC with a 9-2 record would def please me. 10-1 would be much better, but playing UNC, BC, Wash, and Navy on the road (even though BC isnt as good as last yr) plus Pitt at home. I would be happy going 4-1 as long as we beat Wash & Navy.
irish21
I watched them vs. Rutgers, Miami, and UCONN. I say 28-27 ND.

If we beat UNC, then I think we would be favored to win the Pitt and BC games....not that would would necessarily win them. I would be really happy if we could go 4-2 in our next 6 games. Anything more than that would be icing on the cake.
Guest SirJohn
I'm still worried. I watched them on TV after our game with Stanford. Boy they are fast Baby and tricky. We need every valid card in the book.
dangeruss
UNC doesn't run the ball all that well with only 120 ypg on the ground. they're leading rusher is greg little who's only averaging 3.3 ypc, Shaun Draughn is right behind him only averaging 4.7 ypc. i was surprised to see that even though UNC has two great WRs they are only averaging 205 ypg passing. UNC has a lot of great athletes on offense but right now their offense isn't quit up and running yet. im not sure how good UNCs OL is but they should get tested by NDs defense, thats if we can generate any sort of pass rush. i see ND still struggling to run the ball against UNC but if NDs OL can protect JC then he should continue his air assult. Notre Dame - 28 North Carolina - 27 i just think NDs defense will do just a little bit more to help their cause.
IrishGuy
Russ, I think the running stats might be a little misleading. My understanding was that Draughn was Greg's backup going in to Saturday. They were struggling along with Greg as the starter hoping he would have a breakout game, but it never came. Greg only had 3 carries in their last game, and I believe Draughn is officially their starter now. Draughn had 19 carries in their last game for 109 yards. hawaiiirish
i wish Little was in he has nowhere the burst of this new fella who i must admit will do some damage to us!!--give them a plus on running-- give them a huge plus on home field-- marvin austin is impressive give them a plus on Dline-brandon tate is very very good give them a plus on special teams--all that said cameron sextant or however you spell that last name isnt in the same league with Jimmy--when you pick college or pro games you can do very well by sticking with the team that has the best QB--so without as much confidence as i had last week -- based on jimmys arm and the triple threat of golden michael and kyle-ill go 28-- 17 ND-- tough game big game but remember "Jimmy likes to throw Touchdowns"
DJonesIRISH
38-28 UNC We need to take a big step forward if we are going to win this game. I'm not sure if we have it in us. I really hope they come out as fired up as when they played UM, in that case we win.

D Fence
24-13 UNC. We miss 2 FGs and have 2 INTs to give them very good field position. But we bounce back the next week.
