Donjuan
I've been told today that CW has given a tryout to a student kicker. He might address this at his presser later today.
IrishGuy
Maybe it is Tamba Samba.
Guest irishlaw77
Possible lead on the replacement. Sorry Mr. and Mrs. Walker. http://www.clown-ministry.com/images/gus-don-knotts-collection.jpg
IrishGuy
The rumor (3 years ago) was that Tamba was going to kick for us. He was supposedly pretty accurate, but doesn't have a cannon for a leg. When we got Ryan, the talks about Tamba kinda died. Tamba plays on our Soccer team now. http://www.prokicker.com/rankings/highschool/78?year=2005 http://und.cstv.com/sports/m-soccer/mtt/samba_tamba00.html I am just throwing his name out there because I know he was interested in kicking for us at one point, and is attending ND on a soccer schollie. irishziggy
Ben Fritsch and David Ruffer were the two names I had heard about today. Both play inter-hall football @ ND. we just need someone who can kick a 35-45 yd FG consistently. No Biggie!

But apparently for us, it's a real big deal.
SpecialFNK
i dont even think i would be worried if someone new couldnt kick 35+ aslong as he could kick through the uprights consistantly period.
Irishman Part Deaux
I think there is something with Walker's head. He kicks extra points well and his length on field goals is there. He needs a kicking coach to help with his stride, execution and especially finish on longer kicks. This kid could be a kicker with some help. But apparently for us, it's a real big deal. i think bobby bowden might have something to say about that! it is strange how we can have great kickers under holtz and since then it seems we've only had one or two decent kickers since then... Guest ndirish2
There seems to be a rumor going around that its Matt Hammond, a junior. He's from Olathe Kansas (near Brian Smiths hometown). From what I understand He's a soccer style kicker who kicked for his high school: very accurate but very weak - got a few low offers to kick for some low schools near Kansas - but decided to go to ND instead. He's been kicking for interhall football and from what I've seen he is pretty accurate from 35-40 yds out, he's added some muscle mass during college which has given him the power he has lacked in high school to get the big offers. Potentially the next Aponavicius??
D Fence
So, if any of these guys are better than Burkhart, why is he on scholarship?? I know, we can't just take a guy's schollie away nor am I advocating that, but if we're looking that far and wide for a kicker, I'm wondering why he got an offer in the first place if not just to put it to Kai Forbath. Guest leftcoast
i dont mean to derail this conversation to talk about next season+, but... i'm not a huge recruiting follower. what's the word on nick tausch?
Donjuan
i dont mean to derail this conversation to talk about next season+, but... i'm not a huge recruiting follower. what's the word on nick tausch? He's kicking very well right now. He kicked 4 field goals last weekend with the long being a 51 yarder, so I think our kicking will improve with the addition of these newbies.
