Franco
Seriously, you are getting paid what, 45,000+ a year (scholarship) to kick. That is your ONLY job. Besides punting, it just boggles my mind how we can't find at least a reliable kicker. He doesn't even have to be great, just reliable. ndmike88
ND's lack of a kicking game is going to come back and bite them in the azz in an important game this year.

Irish Chris
I think walkers problem is all mental. He obviously has the physical skills to kick the ball, but mentally..... I agree ND. I has to be mental. The long one he missed would have gone in from 60 yards out. I know he has the leg.

IrishGrizz
Every time I watch another football game, I get so jelous of kickers who kick to the goal line and make 40+ FGs.

D Fence
I actually agree with black irish's point. The main focus is on getting enough loft on the ball so the coverage team has time to get down the field. We have done a really nice job of that so far. But, we won't be able to sustain it once the weather gets nasty. BTW, I hope all the younger kids on the team watch Anello on every play that guy is out there. He missed a tackle yesterday which he probable shouldn't have, but then busted his a$$ to beat everyone else 40 yards down field to make the tackle. The FG game is all mental. I mentioned in another thread that I watched Walker during pre-game warm-ups and before the 2nd half, and he nailed kicks from all over the field, including the spot where he missed in the 3rd quarter. Nailed them, straight down the middle of the uprights. BUT, we don't have the luxury to wait for him to get sorted out. We need to put someone else in ASAP, unless Burkhart or the other options are THAT bad, which is a frightening thought. A missed FG is almost as bad as a fumble or pick, and it kills momentum. We almost got tied up this weekend in a game that should not have been that close because of leaving 6 MORE points on the field.

D Fence
I was actually responding to the argument about kick-offs, not about FGs. My opinion about FGs is that we need to go to Plan B now as I mentioned above. We actually should have done that a game or two ago. Regarding the kick-offs, we have done very well in return coverage, which is why I'm less concerned about kicking it through the end zone every time. If we kicked into the end zone every time against Michigan, we don't come up with 2 fumbles that lead to scores, which almost put the game out of reach in the first quarter. jfschellcrna
i see your point with regard to fumble recoveries; however, i think i would prefer to take my chances with bringing the ball out to the twenty instead of potentially letting them start on the 40.......... D Fence
I see what you're saying. One school of thought is to not take chances with a return and get it through the end zone. The other (or if you're not able to do option 1), is to kick it high and use your coverage to try to pin the other team deep. With us, it's probably a combination of the option 2 reasons. With our coverage team, outside of Anello and Bruton, we had all athletic LBs, safeties and corners playing on Saturday, with guys like Filer, Sergio Brown, Leonard Gordon, Harrison Smith, and Kyle McCarthy. I was only saying that BI's point about our stats in this area have been pretty good so far, outside of the one kick-off that went out of bounds and gave them a guaranteed start at the 40 against MSU I believe. I "kinda" agree. The only reason I say "kinda" is because Stanford had some nice returns against us. If we can keep up the great kick coverage, I am less concerned about kick off distance. My biggest concern is FGs. If we could make 50% of our FGs, I wouldn't care if our opposition started on the 20 or the 40.
