Donjuan
October 2, 2008 Confident Marinelli ready for Irish Rick Jones CardinalReport.com Publisher Playing at Notre Dame is usually a special memory for players and coaches alike. Many of the Stanford Cardinal have respect for the history and tradition of the Fighting Irish. Chris Marinelli isn't one of them. The Cardinal right tackle did praise the improved Notre Dame team. One that beat Stanford last year 21-14 in a sloppy, error-filled game. "They are vastly improved from last year," Marinelli said. "Which is tough for us because we didn't win that one." The Stanford team knows the blitzing Irish defense will not change. New coordinator Jon Tuneta has brought his attacking style from Georgia Tech to South Bend. "They are going to bring a great deal of blitzes – on first down, second down, third down, every down. All kinds of guys and they bring it a bunch of different ways," Marinelli said. But the junior expects the Cardinal offense to be able handle whatever the Irish throw at them on Saturday and was very candid in his prediction. "We'll be ready, we've seen a lot of tape (on them) and it is a good challenge for us," Marinelli said. "But on the same token it's going to go bad for them at one point and we are going to gash the (expletive) out of them, I promise you that. So keep bringing it, keep bringing it. They have one sack all year on 200 blitzes." Marinelli's confidence wasn't lacking when talking about going against the pressuring Irish defense. Marinelli, with 22 career starts, is part of a veteran offensive line that has a combined 87 career starts. "They can keep bringing all the stuff they want", Marinelli added. "We can pick up blitzes. Our defense, blitzes more than anyone in the country, too. So we are ready for that. That's no big deal. "We've seen everything they've shown on tape. We've seen it before, it's nothing new. They are very disciplined with what they do, which kinda makes it nice. Sometimes when they screw up, it works out better for the defense. We aren't too worried about, we are a uniform group and we'll slide right in there." Marinelli is not impressed with the Notre Dame field and stadium. He saw action as a redshirt freshman late in the 2006 game that the Irish won 31-10 in South Bend. "I hate it, playing up there," Marinelli said. "The field, excuse my language, the field sucks. The stadium sucks. I think the area sucks." The 6'7, 297 pound tackle from Boston, Massachusetts didn't stop there. "I grew up with a bunch of Irish and Italian Catholic people back home. And all the Irish Catholic people, all they talk about is Notre Dame this, Notre Dame that. And they've never even been there, ya know. So I hate those guys, I hate that school. "We are going out there to mash them up and that's all there is to it."

DJonesIRISH
Hope our players see this and kick the kid in the teeth on the field. Also, what's up with west-coast teams and dogging on people's turf? Seems like a dumb thing to get riled about, and as I recall both teams were slipping and sliding all over their stadium. D Fence
Cue the bulletin board....... Exactly. Thanks for that material. I hope Kerry Neal reads this before he blows right past this guy.
Franco
I would think this guy would know better than to mouth off like that. Especially about him pointing out that ND only has 1 sack. That may be a bad stat, but look at the situation as well.
Guest irishrick
Ok guys lets be nice, hit him hard, but be nice, so that when the game is over he will understand that notre dame is tough and are nice, just don't hurt the fella , just let him know that the the irish are tough and mean , but are nice, then let him look up at the scoreboard but be nice, he will have a better view of the dome on his back but be nice, it would please me to no end if one of the irish knocked the stuffing out of him , then bend over and helped him up. But be nice. Ha go irish
Irish Chris
Well I guess I know who I'm going be spot-shadowing everytime the Irish are on D. I can understand his confidence regarding our blitzing and only having 1 sack, but he ran his mouth a little wreckless there IMO.
Guest OCDomer
Couple of thoughts on this guy. 1. Marinelli from Boston sounds pretty Italian to me. Aren't most Italian-Americans Catholic? (You know, Roman Catholic). So what's with bashing the Irish Catholics? I'll bet this guy was a Catholic kid who wanted to go to Notre Dame and is bitter that he had to go play for a lesser team that hasn't beaten the Irish while he's been there. 2. How the heck does this guy get off criticizing the field inside the Cathedral of college football? Stanford's old stadium was so bad they tore it down. The turf in their new stadium last season was the sloppiest surface I've ever seen the Irish play on, to the point of being a safety hazard. What number is this guy? I want to watch him get worked on Saturday!

I bet when Harbaugh saw his interview, he probably took him in his office and gave him a good yelling

ErickJD08
I think the most telling statement is that he realizes that ND is much better than last year and we still won last year. What an idiot though? Everyone scouting ND's team knows that it is a team that is trying to play with emotion. Nothing gets players more worked up than some pre-game trash talk about your team and your school. Advantage ND.
Guest irishrick
Yes but lets not get to excited , we needd to walk the walk, this cardnial team will give 8us plenty of trouble, we might win by a field goal go irish
Guest brady112106
That sounded nicely written. I bet that came straight from the heart.
ND FANATIC
That sounded like one of those apology letters my parents made me right when I rifled a baseball through one of our neighbors windows.....
NDJoe06
I want to knock them in their F@#$ING MOUTH! I was, and still am to some extent, worried that we would not be focused on stanford. I think our young team is getting the picture that ND is special and people hate us for that. I want stanford reconsider even having a football team after this game. WE ARE ND!!! tdnd81
What # is that D-bag?? Where was he last year when the Irish's Def literally broke his QB's neck, with one of the best hits ever on a qb.. I hope this time Pritchard never gets up.. (yeah not really but i hope we hurt em) Thanks... stanford guy, (the guy that didn't get offered to ND and is bitter). The Gold Helmets
Maybe it's my warped sense of humor but I found his comments funny. I just found it so over the top and emotional I had to laugh. I think it's funny when people get so fired up they kind of loose control of what they are even saying. Its obviously a dude his wears his emotion on his sleeve. I didn't find the Irish Catholic/Italian comments very funny, but everything else was hilarious. Obviously I hope the Irish smack him in his smart @ss mouth, and I'm sure it will help maintain focus as we lead up to the the Miami Hurricanes....uh I mean Stanford Cardinal.
