dangeruss
is anybody else worried about our next two games because i sure am. north carolina looked pretty good against miami and their back up QB looks pretty good. this game might not be a walk in the park like i thought it would be last week. also stanford looks to be a lot better from last year too. their running game seems to be pretty good and their QB aint to bad either. ND needs to be at the top of their game or they could easily be 3-3 going into their bye week. ND played much better against purdue but it took them about one qrt. to finally get the ball moving. Semper Fi ND du Lac
Both teams are very well coached so I wouldn’t overlook either of them. The good news is UNC is a pass friendly offense and NDs D is much better at the pass then the run. Stanford however has been running the ball great but is one dimensional and we should be able to stack the box. I’m not overlooking either of these capable teams, but I won’t say that I’m worried. rdrdreamer
Yeah Russ, North Carolina seems like a team that plays the entire game with intensity. Alot like the Oregon State team that dethroned SC last week. Different styles but just as dangerous. I am not quite concerned with Stanford...but any team can beat any other at this point. SDIrishFan
I'm with you Russ. After the beat down UNC put on Rutgers, and watching Stanfords opening game against OSU, I was a little more worried about both. I put these two teams in the same category with Purdue. They both have fairly one dimensional offense and their defense is just okay. If we play well, we win, if we play like we did agaisnt MSU or SDSU, we lose. Neither game is a game that we can just show up and win. We will have to play well in all three facets of the game.
DJonesIRISH
I'm not really worried about these two games, but I do think a win against Stanford will show us if this team can string two solid outings together. On the other hand, the UNC game will show us how our offence does against a really soild defence.

The Gold Helmets
North Carolina in Chapel Hill may be the second toughest team we play all year. I hope we can make Greg Little (now a tailback) regret not going to Notre Dame

TheRizz
I think the constant blitz against a third string qb will help us out against UNC.
SDIrishFan
I think the constant blitz against a third string qb will help us out against UNC. Not so sure, our constant blitz has only resulted in one sack in four games...and we've played 2 first year QB's so far.
hawaiiirish
stanford although doing very well with thier new coach i think is in trouble against us-- home game-- very motivated sky high team-- and we have way more talent- so this should be a W-- north carolina is another story we are more talented== but i dont think they lost all that much at QB judging by the miami game-- and the big deal of course it is AWAY we are a talented team but even a mature team can have trouble in a away game like this-- can we get over the big hump and win this mmmmmmmm i would say this one is very very touchy-- but i will say if we go to chapel hill and WIN well its katy bar the door -- if we win these next two we have a great chance of being 10 and 1 when we head to LA--are we good-- very good or a great team that improves by leaps and bounds every week -- we will find out in the next 2 weeks!!! Guest irishrick
RUSS. YOUR RIGHT , STANFORD WILL BE SOMEWHAT EASY, IF THE IRISH COME TO PLAY WITH SOME INTENSITY, I JUST HOPE THAT THEY HAVEN'T LOOKED AHEAD , THE MICHIGAN GAMES WAS VERY GOOD THE mSTATE GAME WAS VERY POOR , IAM STILL NOT CONVINCED THAT THE RUN GAME HAS RETURNED, I LOOK FOR THE IRISH TO RUN , OR AT LEAST TRY TO RUN , WE SHALL SEE IF THE LINE IS EFFECTIVE, OUR SECENDARY COULD MAKE A LITTLE NORE PROGRESS IN THE PASSING GAME. TO MANY COMPLETIONS . GO IRISH
IrishLeopard
i think well do just fine in these games, that is if we play like we did against purdue
BlackIrish42
and we've played 2 first year QB's so far. and we won both of those games, so i'm afraid i'm missing your point...
Canadian_Irish
Stanford shouldnt be a problem unless the team turns the ball over. North Carolina is probably the toughest game before USC.
SDIrishFan
and we won both of those games, so i'm afraid i'm missing your point... My point was that our "pressure" didnt seem to rattle them, so why would it in this game? Yes, we won those games but it wasn't b/c of our opposing teams young qb's. crouchingjedi
Hate to sound like Lou but I'm scared of Navy. Navy beats Wake: yawn Navy beats ND 2nd year in a row: sky is falling
IrishCalves
We haven't taken down the QB, but we did get in Painter's face quite often vs. Purdue. It wasn't always a QB knockdown, but we did a nice job of collapsing the pocket and forcing him to make quick decisions. Thats in part why they weren't really able to fire up the deep ball and get behind our safeties (the 53 yarder was blown coverage, with lots of YAC). Johnson in particular is starting to show up against the pass, in spite of double teams. Too bad nobody else is making them pay when they double him up. We need one more lineman to be an impact player, which Its not where we want it to be, but if you watch the film from between SD State and Purdue, there is a difference in how often we're making the QB sweat, and both run similar styles of offense. As for the Stanford/NC debate, ditto Canadian and ND Fanatic. Also with Jedi. A part of the traditionalist fan is dying in me when I say this, but Navy's two losses are to teams that have raised a few eyebrows. They lost to a Duke program that is on the rise (whose only loss was a squeaker to a Northwestern squad that is undefeated and about to be ranked), and an undefeated Ball State squad that put a solid thumping on Indiana. Not saying their losses were to BCS bound teams, but they didn't lose to chump change. These are good football teams that nobody really is talking about just yet. Wake Forest is a ranked football team, and they're very well coached. We also don't match up all that well against them, as our team strength is in the secondary while our weakness is the Dline. They throw for about 80 yards a game and average over 300 on the ground. We're going to have to bring some intensity into that match up. I happen to think that vengeance will be on the minds of most of the guys in that game, but don't sleep on Navy just because of word association that relates to 40+ years of winning against them. One step at a time though. The only game we can play this week is against Stanford. Their QB is a guy that we can exploit IMO. If Gerhart is still out with the concussion he suffered vs. Washington, I'll like this match up even more. This is a very winnable game.
