SpeedsterX
We beat SDSU. We beat the worst Michigan team in recent memory (and alot of that had to do with their screwups). We lost to a pretty good MSU team and we just beat a "decent" Purdue team. It's Purdue! Ok, now that the negatives have been said, I will say this. This was the most complete game this young team has had in 16 games. I've said before, this is the "2nd" year for this team and they are starting to mature. Do you realize that all of our points were made by freshman and sophmores (other than ONE, Grimes.) It's coming together, actually faster than I expected but it all looks very promising! For one half, it looked like 2005. Everything came together. I am still to the belief that we will lose 2 more (and not neccesarily to USC). I am happy but I still realize what we are working with here and I still say that next year starts our reign into the "elites". As long as recruiting stays in the top 5, "Return To Glory" has finally been achieved. (can you tell I've been drinking a little? LOL!!) The Gold Helmets
Everyone freaks out when the Irish lose, but we have to remember it is a team that is trying to figure everything out. I'm happy with the development. Even with the loss at MSU they were in the game until the end and probably would have won if they eliminated the turnovers. I'm sure before the season is over they will lose a game that they shouldn't have, but I'm sticking with 8-9 wins. Hopefully they can get to a nice bowl and get a win. Next year my expectations will be through the roof. Very satisfying win today. Speedster, I enjoyed your drunken rambling! Just trying to "keep it real", like the kids nowadays lke to say. LMAO!! I still believe this team has the right stuff and the Crist years will be special as well. The Gold Helmets
Robert Blanton!!! I just watched the game again and I'm really impressed with the determination and enthusiasm that he brings to the table. He was clapping his hands after almost every play. He is going to be a special player. Just wait until next year when they roll out Walls, McNeil, Blanton, and Gray. Wow!
Canadian_Irish
The kids are learning how win. I can almost promise there is going to be at least one more ugly game this year that have people wondering if things are going in the right direction. But when you look at who will be returning on both sides of the ball next year its hard not to get excited.
irishziggy
great post Speedster. I just post some long shit on the forum for new jersey high schools haha. the high school i coach lost a thriller today 13-12, but we beat Purdue and im damn proud. I wore my #9 jersey which I got b/c I played TE - Kyle Rudolph and DE - Ethan Johnson who plays mostly DT in our new defense, but TE/DE was my position so that's why I got my new found #9 jersey. "We are ND" I don't think we freak out when we lose.....we freak out when we have a game that reminds us of last year. I came in to this season expecting anywhere from 4 - 6 losses. All I wanted out of this year is to see improvement.
The Gold Helmets
I hear you Irish guy. I myself was freaking out a bit at the lack of a running game against MSU. The thing about the MSU loss is that it they didn't play as bad as last year during that game. Despite the woes in the running game you could make a case that the Irish could have won if it weren't for all the untimely turnovers. What I was really referring to was all these people that were ready to slit their wrists because a young team lost on the road to a pretty good Spartan team. The best thing about a win is I don't have to read this fire Charlie Weis nonsense like last week.

I do have to say something good about Sheets and Painter. Another slippery runner and a very accurate "shooter". I was impressed with both, but we stopped em from winning so im more impressed with our team.
ndmike88
I must say I am impressed with the Irish so far. For every negitive I can think of, I can find 2 positives. The Irish are still learning and mistakes will be made. But the future looks very, very bright.

Guest rocketsan22
Random thoughts... I hope we finish this season strong to help with recruiting. If you look at the number of seniors playing on the D, we'll need to plug some vital holes. I'm also hoping that Crist pushes for Jimmy's spot because I'm not sold on him. Heck, I could complete passes to our receivers this year. Surprised this "blitz happy" D we heard all about hasn't blitzed with more frequency. I'm sure you're a good dude rocketfan but Jimmy puts the ball on spot 95% of the time and did you see the out to Grimes he threw 20 yards on a rope? SpecialFNK
if ND had not had the turnovers against MSU they coulda/shoulda won that game. 2 key turnovers in MSU close to scoring and 1 big turnover deep in their own end which lead to an MSU score. i see some poeple expecting multiple loses this season for ND, which is expected after a 3-9 season.. but i dont expect any loses the rest of the season USC included. its going to depend on mistakes/turnovers. if ND plays they way they are capable of they can beat anybody. there are some things ND needs to work on sure. MSU Ringer got alot of yards, but 60+ came on 1 play late in the 4th quarter, so im not giving him credit some might for a 200+ yards game. im seeing too many passing yards givin up and sometimes missed tackles, but those should be worked out as the season goes on. D Fence
Maybe you're basing this on the whole season so far? He has had a lot of picks this early in the season, but poor decisions and bad timing can sometimes be corrected, and it definitely looked like he made a lot of progress yesterday in that department. This includes a few times he either ran or threw it away which looked like the right decisions at those times. It looks to me like he is getting really comfortable with his receivers, and his timing and touch are much more refined. On the original post, I think you have to be really happy with this win at this point in time. We could regress as the season goes on (though I don't think we will), or it could turn out that Purdue loses the rest of their games. There are still some areas of concern like our lack of ability to consistently generate a pass rush and a few big plays we gave up, but we FINALLY went out and beat a team like we should have over the course of the game. If the refs got that Kamara catch right (IMO), it could have even been 45-21. Plus, we're starting to see some other frosh get a lot more PT like Ethan Johnson, Fleming and Blanton, and these guys are going to get better and better. I think our pass rush and our propensity to give up big plays will improve as the season goes along.
D Fence
One other thing, even though Purdue lost a few skill players from last year's team, some of their skill players might be as good as any team we face this year. Orton is a complete WR, Painter made a few mistakes but has a cannon for an arm and will put up a lot of yards against everyone this season. Sheets is a very nice, multi-dimensional back who can run and catch, and Tardy can flat out fly.
