crew60
The Ingelwood, CA, product will be making his official visit this weekend, as the Notre Dame campus welcomes one of the highly sought receivers of the 2009 class. This will be Evans' first visit to the campus and to the Notre Dame football experience. http://irishbandofbrothers.blogspot.com/2008/09/its-time-to-shaq-up-evans-making.html

Guest Shamrock83
Maybe just a rumor but he is rumored to have had a great visit.... maybe enough to sway him our way. Also rumor... he should be deciding within the next few days/week
irishdread
Over on the 4HL there are a couple different posts that say Shaq had a great visit, even some info from P.Sampson and another poster who speaks with Nick Tausch. Apparently the USC coaches also weren't too happy about him visiting us this weekend, maybe P. Carroll knows a little something the rest of us have been wanting this whole recruiting season !!!! D Fence
That game had to be impressive to watch as a WR recruit. Not that USC's QBs don't throw on the money either, but JC's accuracy on a number of different throws yesterday was remarkable. If you got open in space in that Purdue game (outside of a few fades that are designed for the WR to rise up and make a play on the ball), you had the ball dropped right into your fingers or sent right into your numbers. chirodomer
Pure numbers of freshmen on the field had to be exciting for a HS senior. We looked good. Shaq wants to look good. Shaq will be irish!

blarney_stank
He had a great visit and felt like he really could fit in. I haven't heard anything about him decidinng shortly as I he is considering taking some other visits still. He may not and said he definitely won't take all five so I guess we will just have to wait and see. That said, I don't think thigs could have gone much better. Semper Fi ND du Lac
Sounds like ND students were chanting Shaquelle Evans name at the pep rally and then got him to do the crowd push ups in the student section when ND scored the second TD at the game as well. Great job to any DD members that are ND students. That, with a sold offensive performance is the way you impress a prospect. tchris555
kind of a dilemma here. Yes it's great for him to see how young we are and that we're destined to be much better in the next few years. However, it'll be hard for any WR to think he could come in and wrestle playing time waay from Tate and Floyd in the near future.

IrishCalves
Agreed. At best, you're probably talking about looking at slot receiver duties, because Tate and Floyd have certainly established themselves as our top two guys. Then again, Kamara worked his way into the starting rotation last year, and we opened up with Kamara and Grimes on the outside vs. SD State. Now look at where things are after four games. Guys get hurt, guys transfer, guys have inexplicable slumps. Just look at where our TE depth chart is relative to the 2nd week of fall camp. Point being, crazy stuff can happen relatively quickly. And that in mind, if thats the case then why'd he kinda/sorta/a little bit/not really pledge to SC? PT would be an issue there too. If he really wanted to guarantee a starting job right away, he'd probably pick UCLA. But for all we know, its ND and USC that lead for the kid. Should be interesting to see where this goes. Both sides have reason for optimism.
da coach
kind of a dilemma here. Yes it's great for him to see how young we are and that we're destined to be much better in the next few years. However, it'll be hard for any WR to think he could come in and wrestle playing time waay from Tate and Floyd in the near future. Well, IMO players know there is competition for the starting job wherever they go...Its not as if USC doesn't have 3 or 4 big time recruits on their depth chart waiting in line to get on the field...However at ND we have 2 or 3 who are getting a lot of play right now and Shaq could step in as a frosh and get 10 to 25 catches in our offense... Nobody is going to the NFL after their freshman year, we have to show him we can develop him and put him in the right system to showcase his god given talents...and nobody has a better offense to show his ability than ND. NOBODY
Nofairweather
I am not concerned with weather or not he thinks he will break into the line up. It will not be easy to get a start at USC either. The recruits will pick schools for many different rerasons and change thier mind for many reasons as well. Any recruit that is seriously considering any school has to know injuries occur, people declare for the draft, and transfer. Any new player could be as close as one snap away from playing. That said, I am very excited to hear Shaq had a great time. Hopefully we impressed him enough to get him to choose us in the end.
atrain78255
Players with the level of talent that Shaq has don't care about depth charts...they know they can compete with anyone
Guest sully179
hopefully Shaq commits, but if he doesn't i wont be upset because we showed the best college football home games in the country. So if he doesn't choose us, it wasnt meant to be.
Donjuan
I would love to see him improve on his hands. The summer camp videos all show his explosiveness, but also his poor catching. Can you imagine if he caught everything like Tate or Floyd??
Katzenboyer
I would love to see him improve on his hands. The summer camp videos all show his explosiveness, but also his poor catching. Can you imagine if he caught everything like Tate or Floyd?? Floyd was pretty much as polished as you can get coming out of high school, but Tate's knock was that he didn't know how to play the receiver position -- running routes, reading blitzes, and most importantly, catching the football. After a year in the system, his hands look pretty good to me. I'm sure the staff would do wonders for Shaq's easily correctable problem. We just need to get him here first! BlackIrish42
according to this article we're now the front-runner for shaq! guess he liked what he saw from JC, eh? and yes, i know i'm getting my hopes up but the hell with it. it's fun! http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/varsitytimesinsider/2008/09/working-copy-7.html
