El Hombre
Rumors are swirling around that Lalota is starting to 2nd guess his Michigan verbal. I have heard that he continues to be in touch with the ND staff. Just rumors....but figured I would pass along.

El Hombre
A friend who likes to hit all the Irish boards said he saw this posted on more than one site....also said it linked to the Band of Brothers blog. I looked it up and it is on the Band of Brothers Blog: http://irishbandofbrothers.blogspot.com/2008/09/ibb-watercooler-91808.html

Irishman Part Deaux
Call me crazy, but watching this kid on film really did not impress me. he is a kid that just started playing the game and I personally don't feel he will be a force. if we can take away a UsCum recruit, so be it, but I don't really feel good about him coming in and dominating. He will be a good player, but we have plenty of those running around.
irishziggy
well with us playing so much Nickel, getting Lalota, Custis, and Bonds would be huge. Bonds is a 4 man front DT and 3 man front DE. Lalota is a DE in both defenses, and Custis is more of a hybrid pass rusher.
Guest heismancaliber
I still think despite what he wants to hear that LaLota will end up a LT wherever he signs
D Fence
Here's a question: what's our policy regarding talking with committed recruits (who have verballed to another school)? I've understood that CW will not allow a committed recruit to visit until he calls his coach to deommit, but what about our coaches 'staying in contact' with these recruits? I thought is was if someone says 'I'm solid to XYZ school", then we back off, but if they continue to call us we'll talk? Is that right? For all we know he told the Michigan staff he's still going to look around. He played his recruitment pretty close to the vest so if he was going to look around I highly doubt he would come out and tell rivals/scout. Also for what its worth I think Lalota will make a fine DE, especially playing next to Tyler Stockton
D Fence
I guess we'll probably never know what he told UM, or know for sure where his head's at to where it matters until NSD. I was just wondering what our policy was since I cannot recall. I think the book on this kid is he hasn't been playing organized football for too long, but based on his 'measurables', frame and athleticism most people feel he has a huge upside. If I remeber correctly, CW's policy is that ND will keep in contact with a commit until he says he doesn't want to be contacted anymore, then all contact stops. Lalota is a 4.6 guy, we have plenty of guys like that. We need to recruit "REAL SPEED" on the ends at the LB and End positions. someone else here wrote that he hasn't played much and will have a huge upside. I don't want a guy learning to play the game at ND
IrishGuy
I still think despite what he wants to hear that LaLota will end up a LT wherever he signs I think HC is right. I know he will be on the offensive line at UM, but he might end up there no matter where he signs.

I don't want a guy learning to play the game at ND I'm positive Justin Tuck is no faster than 4.6. In fact if he ran a 4.6 I'd be impressed, but you probably won't find a better pass rusher in the NFL. Could be why he's ND's all time sack leader. I swear to God when talking about college football the word speed makes me cringe, it just reminds me of lazy commentating and analysis and excuses. While I understand what you mean we don't need to bring in a "4.5" guy to be our pass rusher. A guy like Custis will be a great pass rusher if coached up, I liken him to Tuck because i want to. It could be totally wishful thinking. Morrice Richardson has plenty of pass rushing ability but hasn't been able to put it together yet. To be honest with you, I think Steve Harvey, I mean Jappy Oliver, needs to teach these kids more moves becasue frankly I'm not seeing much variety out of our D ends who aren't going to physically dominate people off the snap (yet, see Ethan Johnson in 2 years). About you not wanting him to "learn how to play at ND", our last defensive all american was a soccer player. Reggie Brooks (who finished 5th in the Heisman) was all over the map with his positions until his senior year. I woudln't mind being at the point hwere we can allow a raw talented guy like LaLota to learn how to play. I DON"T WANT TO ALWAYS PLAY FRESHMAN. Just be happy it's not Ty who recruited Abdel Banda, who didn't even start at his HS.
irishziggy
most DEs in the NFL dont run less than a 4.6, so you're "SPEED" issue doesnt go with the DL. Sorry to say. That's just idiotic. Some freaks of nature do run that fast, but most of the time they're OLBs who can put their hand on the ground occasionally. The rest of the Defense is getting faster. If you cant see that then you have a date w/the eye doctor.
IrishGrizz
As far as speed goes, how many DEs run 4.6? And thats not fast enough for you? Crazy. Most of the guys we recruit should be taking the first 2 years before they are ready to start- learning their 1st year, getting their feet wet on year 2. Start year 3. Unfortunately, with the lack of talent and depth, we have been improving our recruits lately to put many on the field the first 2 years, but that should not be the ideal. Ideally, IMO, we should have the best guys that are now in the lineup early stay in the line up and the newer guys coming in, while the recruiting level continues to improve, not be able to move them out. Irishman Part Deaux
we did not run the same 3-4 defense when tuck was here. he was a true DE. When i talk about speed i am saying our guys get beat to the outside anytime there is a running back with any quickness. Lalota moves like an OT and you guys want him at the end. that's a good idea.... ziggy, i am sorry to say my sight is good and you just cannot see that our team has been getting beat with speed anytime we play it. our LB's are always chasing on outside plays, they don't get in front. Our DE's don't get to the outside. We do NOT have one rush end right now. comparing the guys who are in the NFL to the ND team, that is idiotic. we knew tuck, laws were special when they were here. Show me one other guy playing now that reminds you of Tuck??? Laws was a freak who played with a non stop motor. we don't have that and it will probably hurt us this weekend at MSU. There is no one on this board that can tell me that watching other games does not make you cringe at how the irish play. we do not play fast. and having fast guys does not make you play fast. you need football players that instinctively move to the ball. Just watch UF/TEnn this weekend and look at the D's. guys are flying around. then watch the irish. we have guys moving around. you can't teach a guy to play with speed and you cannot teach speed, and we do not have enough of it right now.
