irishndfan2
all i have to say is ringer is very good back, we have to shut him down to have shot. gave up 130 today to mcguffie, and ringer is probably a lot better in my opinion
Guest SirJohn
Thank you I was doing a bit of reading on Ringer he does seem good. Had one 78 yard return.
Canadian_Irish
Ringer is a beast, shutting him down will be the key to the game.
Guest SirJohn
Hmmm? yes you guys are right. Yesterday he had 282 yards from 43 carries. Tha't a lot of carries.
Canadian_Irish
Part of that is because it was raining in their game. But he is a workhorse, id be shocked if he gets less than 30 carries. They are better offensively than Michigan, but I think Michigan has the better defence. Should be a close game.
IrishCalves
Hoyer is experienced at QB. Some ups, some downs. Inconsistency has been his big MO, so I can't tell you which Hoyer will show up next Saturday. Ringer is their ground game, period. Great back. If you watch the NFL, think Willie Parker. Probably not as fast, but that style of game is a good analogy I've heard. He'll shoulder the load, but his legs probably won't be that fresh, as he carried the ball 43 times this weekend. Receivers are pretty young. Good, but not as good as last year's group. No real replacement for their TE last year. And their Oline has been spotty. Haven't run blocked as well as they should. I like that we'll finally be able to use our base D against them, rather than just nickel D like our first two games. As for the DLine, not a lot of pressure up front. Got a real good LB in Greg Jones, but they're missing guys like Eric Baldwin from that DL that graduated. If our lineman get to the 2nd level, I think we can have some success on the ground. And FYI, they run a traditional 4-3. They've got some good safeties though. Can't remember his name, but #21 looked good out there. This will be a real good game. Canadian_Irish
Otis Wiley is thier SS, he is a playmaker, Clausen needs to be aware of him when he passes. Will finally get to see the real 3-4, I think the blitzing will be able to get some pressure on Hoyer.
OddThomas
Ringer is a beast, shutting him down will be the key to the game. Respectfully I disagree, Ringer will get his 100 yards plus regardless of what we do. The key to beating MSU is rattling Hovey and clamping down on the their passing game and playing tough red zone defense. We have enough scoring ability to overcome a hundred yard rushing game. We don't want to get into a shootout with them again. It would be nice to see us control time of possession and watching the O line against Michigan I think we have the ability to do that. They handled their stud D line fairly well.

Guest Mdrenshaw
I've had this game, as well as the Purdue game, circled on my calendar. I guess mostly because of the offenses they run. In recent years we've fallen behind early to MSU, usually by a large margin. We can't do that on Saturday, and we can no longer fall back on the mental state of John L. Smith for a comeback. I guess, if there's any solace, it's that we are playing in East Lansing. IF we can win this game, I'll be a little more confident about the rest of the season. It looks like the 4-3 is our base with Ryan and Neal putting their hand on the ground.

It looks like the 4-3 is our base with Ryan and Neal putting their hand on the ground. If you are going by yesterday, that defence was only for the spread. Check the depth chart going into the game against MSU, it will be set in the 3-4. But the team does still play some 4-3.

If you go to Notre dame central and watch the replays you'll see we've come out in a base 4-3 against both our opponents so far but do switch to 3-4 when teams are in throwing downs.
