Guest 66DOMER
Yeah - it's time. I justified and rationalized all I could last year. Well we're still there. ND is a bad football team and Charlie Weis is a bad college football coach. I'm done with his blustering bravado - been burned to much. CW is a terrific recruiter, a wonderful Notre Dame booster and apparently a fine pro football offense mind, but he is NOT an adequate college coach. How long did we spent calling for Ty Willingham's head and even after he was gone we bemoaned his legacy. Charlie Weis came in and turned the same players into winners. Well, seems to me that though Willingham could not recruit worth a damn, he could develop (to some extent) what he did recruit. CW can recruit, but (just like Gerry Faust) cannot develop what he recruits Weis won with Willingham's players because they were already developed (in the basics anyway) and CW was able to come in and install a system that let them succeed. What I find sickeningly ironic is - I'm not sure which coach will last longer in their current position. After listening to all the hype and buildup of the last nine months, I had myself believing that ND would be 11-0 heading to SoCal. Okay, so that was an unfair expectation after last year, but little did I imagine that I was more likely to see last year's record repeated that I was to see ANY improvement. Now I firmly believe that ND will post another 3-9 record. The only other sure win I see is over a Syracuse team that is so bad they can't possibly win. Other than that I see a luck of the Irish win (remember UCLA) over one of the weaker teams - maybe Navy (but I ain't holding my breath). So, the question is this . . . when does Charlie Weis get fired, or does he resign? Officially, I predict he's gone on the Tuesday after another big blowout loss to USC. But I suspect the uprising will become very popular after they get beat in Washington. That out to be a nice laugh for Willingham - save's his job and cost CW his in one swift butt-kicking. IrishGuy
WOW.... You should probably run out to the nearest sporting good store and buy a nice new fancy jersey...I hear Scarlet and Gray are very popular right now. We play one game.....and though we look kinda crappy for 3 quarters, we still win. We show signs of improvement across the board, and appear to be in a much better place than last year....yet you are jumping CW's crap for not winning by 50. This team was picked by most experts to be .500. Most homers (myself included) said 7 - 9 wins. No one picked ND to win more than 10.... This was the first game of a long season. The players are not only learning a new defensive system, we are also breaking in a new play caller. I completely expected a slow game.....I did think we would win by a larger margin, but I did not realize the refs would be directly responsible for 21 points.... Don't mistake my analysis/opinion with being disloyal - I'm still watching and hoping and not going anywhere. Just not believing the company line anymore. And even at 7 wins against this schedule, I don't see that as much of an improvement. Certainly not what we were led to believe. And certainly not a springboard for a national championship run in 2009. How do you pass off the rushing performance. By all indications, SDSU was playing 3rd for 4th stringers! You saying it's okay to rush for 105 yards against 3rd string defenders from SDSU? Sorry, but it ain't ever THAT early in the season. After that performance, do you expect improvement against Michigan's defense? I don't. Oh, and where were the 21 points the refs were responsible for? I grant that I think they made a mistake not overturning Hughes' fumble - is that 14 points? What about that phantom pass interference on the play that Golden Tate just barely missed (and that was a fantastic attempt too - I loved the effort). If I remember correctly, that was a third down play and the refs gave the offense another set of downs that led to a TD.
will munny
If we continue to suck this year as in 4-5 wins I think Weis should get 1 more year. However the AD should give him the condition that he needs to fire the o line coach and Mendoza in the least. If he refuses and gets stubborn after sucking for 2 years than Weis can walk. irishwavend
THIS IS RIDICULOUS! One freaking game in... SERIOUSLY?!?!?! Get a little dang fortitude. Bite your lip and quit looking for the easy out. When you act like this, you give the rest of the fan base a bad name. We called for Ty's head because he was NEVER better than mediocre, even in my senior year where he started 8-0 on the back of his Defense. You could see that bubble bursting way before USC crushed us that year. Also, Ty never recruited. We weren't THAT bad on Saturday. Yeah, I was pissed but we just sputtered here and there and it was the first game with some MAJOR changes. If you want to talk this outrageous stuff, I hear NDNation calling. This is my future coach watch: Charlie Weis.
bstokes
Get a clue man...you're making a decision on one game this year. I am so sick of people making rash decisions as ND fans...go root for Missouri this year, USC next year, Georgia the following year, we don't want you around if you're going to be like that...take your 7 posts and leave. SpeedsterX
Ok, I realize you put down the Kool Aid. NOW, put down the poison! Good Gaaaaawd man, I won't attempt to explain last year because that's been done, til I puked, everywhere, every minute before the season started. "Well, seems to me that though Willingham could not recruit worth a damn, he could develop (to some extent) what he did recruit." That right there lost some credibility for you (and no, I'm too tired right now to explain how the defense won his first year and how it went down hill from there, BQ went into obscurity before CW's arrival and (at the very least) taught him that trying to take a poop while under center was not advantagous (among reading defenses, check downs etc. etc. etc.) How Stovall didn't know what it felt like to catch a pass in an endzone and everyone finding out that the Shark was on the team because CW actually played him. Gaawd, I could go on and on and on,,,,, (2 BCS bowls from a 7 win season, recruiting as you pointed out, able to let staff members go if they are not performing, ok, I'll give you Latina, etc.) We have 2 great young classes, one very good class and the best of the left overs (who are pretty darn good) that are finding themselves and making to be a pretty damn good team. When this team learns to play 4 quarters like they played the 4th against SDS, and then improve, we will enter the elite! Just because it's not happening fast enough for alot of people doesn't mean it's not, obviously, happening! Patience is a virtue! Be virtuous! While I hope some of that pride was directed to my post, I thought I threw up in my mouth alittle while posting a reply simply because knowing that I could write a book in response to the "Hold me, I'm Irish" post and I just don't have it in me at this hour. LOL! Maybe I'm just getting old.
rdrdreamer
Based on the title of this thread...I should have simply stayed out. But I honestly thought it (Thread) may needed editing...again based on this threads title. But like BlackIrish noted...this is the place to be. The sharing of our love for Notre Dame runs deep here. I am in the right place. I am sorry that after one game some folks are displaying such negativity. Look, I am who I am...a kool aid drinking homer. I know this of myself. Doesn't mean I am totally blind. I understand that there are some kinks to work out...there pretty much will something that will be wrong with us...even when we eventually get that National Championship. Some will not be content with the score, or how we didn't pass enough? 66DOMER...the beauty of this site is that we can bring opinions to the front...I respect yours...regardless if mine disagrees with yours... Always...Go Irish!!!

One game, where it is easy to see how our top talent may have been overlooking sdsu.
chirodomer
Hi new guy! Long time poster, first time listener! CW got hated on a lot last year. He made some changes. It is working. While I would like to see something happen in regards to our running game. I think the guillotine is a little harsh at the moment. There were guys in my section screaming for CW and JC's head early and often. We came back which is something we didn't do last year. So sit back, relax and enjoy your young irish team getting there legs. I reserve the right to change this opinion after the Michigan game!

ndmike88
I can understand the disappointment after just 1 game. ND was the pits last year so a big improvement was expected this year. True its only one game but where is the improvement??? SDSU is not exactly a power house and still ND almost lost. Weis has had 4 top 10 recuiting classes. He has the pieces of the puzzle on the table, he just has to put the puzzle together. I wanted to see ND pound SDSU. Instead it was more like last year. If Weis gets blown out in ND's losses this year I say he goes. ND needs to be competive. ND needs to play smart. ND needs to be ND. For the past 13 games (last season plus the SDSU game) ND is not ND.
OddThomas
Next year is the make or break year for Weis, not this year. Ty got fired for lack of iniative and hard work and ignoring ND's expectations. Weis is still on a college learning curve and with the players he brought in he deserves next year and most likely beyound.

ND in Indy
With almost the same result as last year! because the PLAYERS almost gave the game away. Not tryin to throw any of them under the bus, but realistically, that's what happened. I mean come on, 5 turnovers and a missed kicked hurt.
