Guest ttown2424
Just wondering if anyone had any guesses on who the fastest player on the team was? Let's say goal line to goal line.

SDIrishFan
armando allen? I think that was the deal last year. AA Goal line to goal line, thats a long way. Maybe someone with better endurance. Maybe Bruton?
irishwavend
It was Matt Shelton at one point, running a 4.23 before tearing his acl, then running a 4.29. You see how much speed worked out there...
irishndfan2
getheral ran a below 4.3 if i remember correctly, out of high school AA ran a 4.32 i think was his best, harrison smith was clocked at 4.38 i believe also
DJonesIRISH
I think football speed (in pads during a game) Tate bar none that kid floats.
ND in Indy
Armando ran the 110 meter hurdles at 13.8 in highschool. World record is 12.8. No too shabby.
Guest ttown2424
I know allen is really quick, but that doesnt mean he has that breakaway speed ala rocket and tim brown. Once they got even with the defender, they would just pull away. it might be armondo, i was just curious to see what others thought.
IrishCrazy
I am pasting a reply from a thread elsewhere here on DD..... "Watch for Jonas, he is going to surprise a lot of people. I am very good friends with an ND alum whose daughter is/was very close friends with Jonas at Detroit Country Day, my friend has had Jonas to his SB condo to watch ND games for a number of years, this is in part why Jonas was so disappointed not to get an ND offer initially-he has long been a bid ND fan. At any rate, through the grapevine but more closely ( I will leave it at that but I think you can see where I am going) that that Jonas has been impressive over the summer and though Armando beats everyone in the 40, Jonas beats AA in the 60. So, what we have is a mini Hughes with the home run speed we are looking for. Should be fun to watch him develop. btw, my buddy says he JG is unequivocally the best young man he has ever met..." Based on the film of a one of Jonas' runs in video on B&G from yesterday, he looked great and very quick. I recall also Jonas finished 3rd in the state (MI) in the 100 as a junior, sub 10.6. He may not be a 4.4 guy but he may well be and if beating AA at 60, then he is still accelerating. Guess we'll see but it will be interesting to re-visit this thread in a while. Go Irish! Junkhead
I think Allen with his 13.7 or so 110m hurdles is the speed champ. Check the link.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeKmgtYNK78 I hope Jonas Gray has insane speed, but I have little faith in HS 40yd times. Whoever it is, I hope they put it to use this season! RB situation. Aldridge, Allen, Hughes, Gray, Wood, Riddick. Nice. Edited August 22, 2008 by Junkhead
IrishCalves
My guess would be Allen. Other candidates for top wheels honors include Tate, Lambert, Harrison (though if he's bulked up a bit this year to handle LB, that might be a stretch for 2008), *Walls, and West. Guest SirJohn
I think somewhere Charlie said this does not matter if yoiu have not any skills. Back when Flaget High had this ALL STATE track guy, he could beat and did beat anyone. Just he had stone hands and in the clear dropped so many. I believe Mike and Mike were saying if you took his 100 meter time and took the fastest part and converted it to a 40 time it would be like 3.5-3.6. I don't think they took in account the "start" time just the fastest 40 meters. (Hope that makes sense. Its been a long week and its late on a Friday). My thought is teach this cat to catch a ball and put him in WR. Hell, send him on go routes. Nobody could keep up!

NDJoe06
I saw a program about sprinting, and the key part about why the 40 is not an Olympic race is because of it is too short to gauge a person's speed accurately. There was disscusion about how some NFL scouts request 50 or 60 yard times. Bolt could easily have a 3.6 considering his 100 meter world record time involved a celebration. Also he was running out of blocks rather than just crouched over in the position. Plus he was on the track & not the turf in the RCA dome. I bet if he ran it at the combine under those conditions he would run like a 3.8 or so.
irishndfan2
i think some nfl teams should take a look at bolt, 6 foot 5 fastest man alive??
