SDIrishFan
http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?SID=880&CID=837351 Shaq dropped to a four-star, as did Marlon Brown. Imagine that, Cierre dropped to #14. Edited August 13, 2008 by SDIrishFan
IrishLeopard
not only that, hes now the 3rd ranked RB
tchris555
hate to say i told you so but im not at all surprised by that at all. Shaq's not a 5 star. And Cierre probably isn't the #1 RB in the country. Doesn't mean they both won't be stunners. I have no idea what Marlon Brown did to get dropped except not be at that stupid camp out in Cali. Marlon Brown looked bad at the USC Rising Stars Camp, his speed is nowhere near 4.5 and he is still incredibly raw
tchris555
ill give you shaq, but if you compare browns tape with woods, i believe woods is a better prospect If you're talking about Marlon Brown, than I don't really know how to compare the RB to the WR's film, except that they are both extremely impressive and are against what's thought to be pretty weak comp. If you're talking about Bryce Brown than I disagree. Byrce is polished already, which as I've said before, isn't always a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Meaning, if Cierre is already that good and he doesn't even know what he's doing really than that's scary. But a guy like Bryce Brown has been doing RB workouts with his weird mentor/personal trainer since he was much younger. It's the whole ceiling/potential versus college ready argument. I'd much rather have Woods committed than Brown, but Browns film is very good (and both don't play great comp).
Canadian_Irish
Meh, the ranking put out before the start of a SR season I take with a grain of salt. And even then, unless a kid has a huge drop/rise the change doesnt mean a whole lot.

NDJoe06
I feel bad for the guys that committed to ND already...I guess CW broke it to them that their rankings would fall...so sad;)
Canadian_Irish
the best running back In 2005 Jonathan Stewart, Marlon Lucky, Jason Gwatlney and Keven Grady were all ranked ahead of Darren McFadden. Moreno was the 73 prospect in 2006, but Chris Wells was the highest rated RB. Point is they get some right, and get some wrong, but with wood we are spliting hairs. Guest irishrick
81, I See Hughes As The Starter On Paper , However This Is Going To Be A Run Game This Year And All Will Get About The Same Time Of Playing , Short Passes To Allen , Because Of His Quickness, Aldridge And Hughes Will Do The Bulk Of The Inside Rush . Thats Just My Take , Rivals Can Have It Their Way . Ha . Go Irish.

I ran into Moreno out one night the summer before his senior year in high school and in my drunken state tried to get him to consider ND. Soon after that ND showed up on his list on rivals, but nothing materialized without an offer. He was a real nice kid and an obvious stud then. He deserves all his success. SpeedsterX
Doesn't matter, when you are talking about the top 3 or 4 at a position, you're usually just splitting hairs. Alot has to do with coaching, experience, physical maturing, etc. once they get to college.
Guest irishrick
speedster your 100 % right, coaching has a huge impact on any young player , seems like everyone is caught up in the numbers game , iam from the old school come if you like, we not going to give you a car or apartment, or anything other than a scholie, and you get a real education , what you do on the field could help you in the future. if your good enough you will have a chance to PROVE IT. . go irish
chirodomer
I doubt that a #1 RB prospect can actually drop 2 spots without playing a game. Typical politics. These reporters just can't stand to see ND do well! BTW does anyone know what the Rocket or the Bus was rated coming out o high school? These reporters just can't stand to see ND do well! BTW does anyone know what the Rocket or the Bus was rated coming out o high school? This one is not ND haterade, but rather a different inherent flaw with rivals. Its that rivals loves to over react to a bunch of guys working out in shorts and t-shirts. "This kid blew up at our camp, so he'll go from a no name to a 5 star! WOO!" Wood held his own, but others made equally or more impressive showings too at the Florida camp. Mind you, one camp, and how well guys did is based on subjective data (if you could call it that). These combines are nice to compare athletes that otherwise wouldn't play against each other, but at the end of the day its still shorts and pads. The guys that shy away from contact, don't play through injuries, are going to look better than advertised, while the gamers that live for hitting and the focus that a game atmosphere brings suffer. They tell you something, but they take it too far IMO.
