With so many guys coming off the board in the last few weeks, who do you think we will actually get?

I say on offense we land: Evans - wr

Patterson - wr

Nixon - ot

Gaffney - fb

and on defense: Lalota - de, I think it will be tough but we get him

Ikard - de, again it will take awhile but I think he chooses us

Banks - cb - will eventually get him

Jenkins - lb - I think he will look at us, and we win him over

That gives us 21 commitments. Jenkins and Ikard are my wildcards but I could see it happening. If not Ikard maybe Custis or Bonds. So, what say you?

I would be thrilled with that list as long as you added Motta.

My flavor of the week total crapshoot guesses:

Lalota (DE) - There are two distinct stories I keep hearing, from posters and reporters alike, and I'm choosing to go with the optimistic one (sorry boys, can't divulge premium content).

Evans (WR) - Visit blows him away IMO.

Patterson (WR) - Ditto.

Banks (CB) - If there were two solidly in the lead, and one of those two doesn't have room for him any more, then I have to wonder if there's something holding him back or if he's dotting all of his i's and crossing the t's... but I'll stick to my guns and say we get two corners.

Gaffney (FB) - As space gets tighter, the commitments start to roll in once again.

Motta (S) - Think he takes an official to South Bend, takes a few more visits without the same effect, gets too impatient with the slow play from the Gators and ends up Irish by November.

Jenkins (LB) - I think this is Corwin's big catch for 2009. He worked miracles on Blanton, Slaughter, while sealing the deal with Newman and Johnson, but so far none this year that has been a Corwin Brown specialty. He lands the talented backer on LOI day, in spite of the steep odds and cumbersome kickoff to his recruitment.

That in mind, three things:

1) There's bound to be one guy that we think we have a crummy shot at that we land (Jenkins, T'eo, Ikard, Bonds, etc).

2) There's bound to be one guy we think is in the bag that will find another pasture to graze in (Banks, Motta, Lalota, etc).

3) There's bound to be at least one jaw dropping surprise (i.e. Hunter jumping ship, the Irish landing a pair of Husker decommits, etc).

So please, don't take my list too seriously. Just me thinking out loud.

That would be an awesome class Calves, and pretty likely especially if we have a fairly strong performance this year on the field. Does your list assume that we are Nixon or bust on the O-line? (I prefer it that way considering next years O-Line Class)

Hopefully Lolata and Motta soon. Say those two names 10 times really fast.

I do think its Nixon or bust at OL benneboy. And I think that right now our odds at a large DL haul are pretty low too. Unless we have a big eye opener type of visit coupled with a much improved season, I have a hard time feeling good about Ikard and Bonds. Maybe we find a late bloomer or two and take a chance on them like we did with Taylor Dever, but with the way the Irish have been talking up verbal offers with 2010's class, I don't see us putting all of our eggs in 2009's basket.

Maybe it's me being bitter from past recruitment spurns, but I'm skeptical about Motta. IMO as much as I would love to land him, i just think something is going to go wrong here. Whether he jumps ship or he accepts a gator offer immediately upon receiving one, and hearing some of the sleazy recruiting tactics of urban & co. only adds to my skepticism. It's just my opinion though, i hope things go well here.

I like your list. I don't have the same warm and fuzzy feeling you have for Nixon, Ikard and Jenkins. But I do feel it more for Motta. Like IC, I am learning to expect some surprises to occur- 1 we don't expect to get we get, 1 we expect to get we don't. I think this may be a year where we leave some schollies on the board and don't get all 20-21.

When do the class rankings come out ??

Great post Calves...as always. I especially agree with your three things...seriously! Your thinking aloud is strong. Really feel your number one thing will materialize...

Evans, Nixon, Jenkins, and ........T'eo

I seriously believe that.

Obviously there will be more, but these are the threads that Im going to follow religiously.

That's some strong Kool Aid

Are you serious heisman??? Can't we just talk football on a ND board without a sc fan telling us its the koolaid?? We are having fun here, talking recruits..

i'm not in charge of anything, talk about whatever you want

any realistic Irish fan knows that Te'o is a longshot

Seriously, I need a recruit to sign and soon...it seems like it has been forever since we got a verbal...

I know its only been a couple weeks, but after the momentum turned for us, I thought we would steam roll into the opening of the season...

So much for reasonable expectations...
