Guest irishrick
Its been said that the Irish will blitz 80% of the time ?? I just don't think that we have the horses to do this, our secondary has some problems, we might get away with this in the opener, But the Wolverines , thats another story ? Just don't see the talent yet, ? where was it last year ? , Just Hope that the Irish can play completive football and we get a few breaks , new OC calling plays new DC helping Coach Brown . to many questions still unanswered , and they won't get settled UNTIL we play the wolverines IMO. what say you ? krazyglue
Would you trade our players on D for that of Ga Tech last year or the year before? JT did very well with the players he had there and I think our talent is better then he had. I think he and CB will get the job done and if they want to blitz 80% of the plays I think we will see positive results.
irishwavend
The corners can man up pretty well with our safeties, and lest we forget the success Brian Smith and Kerry Neal had last year... We have more team speed this year than last year, so I think we will be fine.
irishndfan2
if we continuously confuse opposing teams i think well be fine. If we keep giving them different looks and hedges and what not i think that it will be come very confusing and make it easier to get to the quarter back
NDJoe06
I think there will be a learnign curve, but remember the D this year will hopelfully get some help from the offense.
Canadian_Irish
Just be warned guys, ND will get burned by blitzing this year. I dont care if you have an all american secondary, you still we get beat. However, ND will have the coach that knows how to blitz properly, and sometimes just making a QB think everyone is coming for him can lead to picks, it should be fun to watch. Just understand that when you bring heat a lot you are going to give up some big plays every now and then.
Guest irishrick
Canadian Irish , I totally agree, Iam just hoping that we can get some good practices in before Michigan , I hope we can get it going soon enough , we can't afford to get behind early as i think that were going to be a running team like 70/30 this year . what say you ? True but few if any teams can run 10 offensive plays without some negative yardage, busted plays, penalties, sacks ect. To find out who the hoss is or who the coaches think is there best blitzer watch for this. In a 3-4 it will be the right outside LB, in 4-3 it will be the right tackle.JT likes to head down hill. Opponents will know this and expect it. I think 80% is a bit much. They will use their heads and blitz when the think they have a chance of taking away what they feel has been a the opponents strength in a given situation. MikejND
I'd rather blitz than sit back and let the offense dictate, and tire down our defense. I'd rather we dictate the pace. I expect more bump and run, well I did with Walls playing this year but either way, with blitzing, somethings gonna happen, wether it be good or bad... I'm okay with that. KamaraPolice
I am pretty sure Tenuta didn't mean bring the house 80% of the time. What will probably happen is that you will see different guys coming in from the edges or up the middle 80% of the time. Depending on if we're going to play a 3-4 or 4-3, sometimes it will be 1 guy or sometimes 2 and occasionally there'll be non-linebackers blitzing. If we were talking bringing 7 and dropping 4 every play, i'd be worried. That's not how it's going to shake out though. Also, i'm excited about the prospects of seeing a DE like Ryan or Mo Richardson drop back into a passing lane and getting the easy pick after QB reads blitz. It's tough to watch. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uHsgfAMT8xg Also, if you want to play a drinking game with your buddies, how about everyone drinks when Sam Young gives up a sack... start slow and be careful. ND FANATIC
Just be warned guys, ND will get burned by blitzing this year. I dont care if you have an all american secondary, you still we get beat. I'd rather get burned putting pressure (or trying to) on the opposing offense than get burned in our base defense. Its all about making the opposing offense uncomfortable, you don't have to get to the QB everytime, you just have to make them think your going to. Guest irishrick
KP, Good video of the Georgia Tech defense from last years ND game. It's tough to watch. you can say that they had great blitzing pattens, , But what struck me was the sorry play of the Line, for and five players getting to the QB, almost on every blitz, I hope this isn't any indication of whats going to happen this year, there has got to be significant improvement, , just from that video, looks like we need some coaching, as there were to many Irish players doing very little , or nothing , to protect the QB I will revalue the line play , after the Michigan game as the SDS game we will be a tune up because of the size advantage we have over the Aztecs, however they appear to be smaller but faster maybe this will change after a few practice videos

They will probably have a good defense, but their offense is no going to be very good at all - you remember what its like have a freshman QB, let alone inexperience at RB and WR. They still have easily the second best DL ND will play this year. They may not score a lot that game, but they may not need to if ND cant move the ball on them. After the michigan game we will know exactly how much the OL has improved. And I really like blitzing out of the 3-4, because you can bring any LB on any play. I wouldnt want to be a OL where you have no idea which LB is bringing pressure. Watch out because at least 1 LB is going to have a massive year in this new system. Just don't see the talent yet, ? i'd love to see ND blitz about 80% of the time. i think ND is getting much better athletes and talent on defense to bring the heat, but it'd agree that were not quit there just yet. also i do beleive ND could kill UM's offense by blitzing about 80% of the time. don't forget that UM's offense will most likely struggle early on. they lost their starting QB, starting RB their big three WR's and they'll be playing with basically a new OL. Guest irishrick
Yes your right, Michigan is weak in all positions , thats just what rich rod wants you to think their defense will keep teams down most of the time , , gene tells me Michigan won't miss a beat, with Notre Dame, he is pretty good as he knows a lot of the players and coaches at Ann arbor, I will say this if the Irish come out against them ready to play we could win , But if were still in the last year's mode were in for a long day . Charlie says the hell with Michigan . Got to show me first. Michigan will be very hard to beat. go irish
krazyglue
Charlie says the hell with Michigan . Got to show me first. Michigan will be very hard to beat. go irish Totally agree, but I remember when Rich went to WVU. Don Nehlen left him a decent team. Rich didn't try to keep the old system and recruit his players, he just plowed right into his system and tried to fit guys into it. Needless to say, it didn't work and I believe he went 3-8 in his first year. I could see him doing that again this year and I don't think UM has the players to do it right now.
